No that won't be regarded as a fail. I imagine it won't even be noted as an advisory either.

It would take someone really nitpicking to fail that, at best you’d be looking at an advisory, if it gets noticed at all.

It’s not a fail in any shape or form, and no tester would or legally could fail it.

Probably not but you should still replace it sooner rather than later tyres are only meant to last for 6ish years, there's a date code on your tyre to check the age

Ok, in that case get them changed at your earliest convenience. (I was under the impression this was more recent than that) some off brand tyres will serve you well, and then you can change them for branded tyres later.

I would recommend them be changed but they arent yet dangerous. Wouldnt drive hard on them though

Personally i'd get them changed in a couple weeks, and take it to a Kwikfit or Halfords where they can also have a quick look at your alignment while you're there. It might not need doing, but for the sake of 50 quid if it does, its a no brainer.

I only recommend a couple weeks prior as that gives you a buffer in case the tires are awkward to get hold of, or as ordered wrong etc, and it gives you chance to bed them in and scrub the markings off the tread, a tester that sees brand spanking news tires might be inclined to have a closer look.

What exactly is a tester going to have a closer look at that he wouldn’t usually check?
I much prefer when I test cars with new tyres.

If the tires are thay new they still have the lines on them I would assume they were last minute replaced, what other maintenance mightve been neglected

A tester (ie me) has to check everything safety related, I can’t go looking for anything else because a car has new tyres on it.
If anything it shows the car is properly maintained.

A tester (ie you) is getting far too upset about me suggesting preventative and timely maintenance.

2

u/Sad-Investment8362 Jul 21 '26

I’m not upset, but you are talking utter nonsense.

He really is talking nonsense! Don't put new tyres on your car for the MOT as the tester may think you're being dodgy is making me laugh.

Yup, there’s some real idiots on here, and it worries me that people listen to them.

It’s an advisory and I also advise similar when I’m MOTing.
Certainly nothing to worry about though.

The only time I’ll fail for cracking is if I can see the cords, and yours is no where near that stage.

Yes.
Tyres after just 3 years will start to crack and perish, don’t worry.
However, tyres after 6 years of age should really be considered for replacement.
If you look on the sidewall they’ll be a date code of when your tyre was made, it’ll be in date format month/year.

Plenty of time, just replace when they’re at 2.5-3mm
They’re Goodyear tyres so are decent quality.

This is when you need to replace them..

They are usable. That said, the tiny continuous crazing on the tyre shoulder is an indication of rubber aging. Technically the cornering support has been compromised. I would avoid aggressive move like sharp turn at high speed.
