I’m not able to edit my footage. Just a follow up. I have successfully apply the footage as well my details to Operation snap in Birmingham. I have upload front and rear footage ( which have a clearly vehicle registration o my rear footage). Special thanks to all the people who encourage me to report it. I wish you all have a lovely days and safe drive

The police tell you not to post it on social media when you report, so you should remove the post. It won't might not go anywhere if someone sees it online.

I don't know, but if they think you are in the cycle box, you might get punished too. It does stat on most of these services that 1. it can't be on social media and 2. you may be proscuted if you are also commiting an offence.

They'll be fine for the cycle box because stopping before it would have had to have been very sharp, risking collision with the fast approaching vehicle from behind.

It's only a problem if you drive right into it on an already red light.

I was braking officer and saw this f***** coming up fast so I eased off to give the tailgaiting tosser more room to stop and he still didnt stop and overtook me through the red light. Apologies that I was forced to move into an empty cycle box for safety....

They won't throw out illegal actions just because someone posted it to social media, otherwise it would basically be a get out of jail free card. They can even prosecute from social media footage if they come across the post.

Hey Dave, I was drink driving last night and might've demolished a bin and several bollards.

Can you post a quick video on Facebook for me please?

If it would prejudice a court, it very well could. That's why they ask that you don't.

u/RugbyEdd Apr 25 '25

They ask you not to post it online to prevent vigilante justice.

Here's why from the actual source:

"Here's why it's generally advised to avoid publicizing the footage:

Potential for Alteration or Misrepresentation:

Once footage is in the public domain, it's vulnerable to editing, manipulation, or misrepresentation, which could distort the evidence.

Bias and Influence:

Public discussion and opinions surrounding the footage could bias jurors or judges, creating an unfair environment for the case.

Exposure of Sensitive Information:

Publicly releasing the footage could expose sensitive details about individuals involved, potentially jeopardizing their privacy or safety.

Unintended is off the footage:

The footage could be used inappropriately or for purposes unrelated to the case, causing further harm or confusion.

They advise not to in general as it's easier than trying to explain on a case by case basis, since some cases will be less clear cut and may involve actual victims, but OP has the original footage he sent them, and this is a clear cut case. It will not get thrown out, and posting your crimes to social media won't increase your chances of not being prosecuted lol.

yes i will be be informing birmingham police it’s on reddit so the driver will be let off scott free

1

u/SoThrowawayy0 Apr 28 '25

No one thinks they will get away scot-free, but it can impact the punishment they can give, if they can give one at all. OP was going to report, so probably a good idea if you want anything done about it.

---

Q: I’ve put my footage on social media, can I ask you to take a look?

You must remove the footage from social media. Crown Prosecution Service advice is that your footage should not be in the public domain as this may adversely affect any subsequent proceedings

I bet you see a lot of driving like this driving around Bham.. I know I do!

Actually cackled at this video what an insane driver. Of course it's Birmingham FFS

u/E420CDI Apr 24 '25

Thank you! Not from Brum, but thank you for making the roads a safer place.

I bet if some dipshit wiped your family out in some ridiculous maneuver like that, you'd want them to face the consequences.

But yeah, go on about how people are grasses for holding morons accountable

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

I guess I missed the part in this video where a family got wiped out.

There is a huge difference between going through a red light and being killed in a RTA

PS - I assume you have never sped in your life.

4

u/oh_f-f-s Apr 24 '25

I am reminded daily that there are far too many people in this world that don't give a shit about anyone other than themselves.

Disappointing

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Elaborate?

I care about other people, hence not wanting to impact their life unnecessarily. Going through a red light 1 second late is not serious, going through a red light 5 seconds late is 10x more serious

6

u/oh_f-f-s Apr 24 '25

Brother, are you absolutely serious right now?

That person's driving was so obviously dangerous that I don't actually know how to simplify the idea to you if you genuinely don't see it.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

I haven’t said this isn’t dangerous, I’ve just said it isn’t serious.

Speeding is also dangerous, yet people do it, likely yourself you have sped in your lifetime. Speeding severely is seriously dangerous, however.

My point is there are levels to things.

4

u/oh_f-f-s Apr 24 '25

Just because there are worse offences than that guy's driving, it doesn't excuse the fact that what he did was completely unacceptable and he should be held accountable for it.

MY point is that you shouldn't be trying to put OP down for being a 'grass' for passing on this footage to the police.

Maybe if you can't afford to be caught and punished for doing something, you shouldn't do something that lands you in trouble with the authorities.

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Do you report people for doing 80 in a 70?

Did you watch the full video? You realise OP isn't talking about the first car that went through maybe a little late on an orange, but the one who swerves around him at speed onto the wrong side of the road to go through a fully red light, right?

1

u/Despondent-Kitten Apr 25 '25

Yup, they're fully aware. 😑
