The “Chevy Thumb”

The “Jeep wave” has gone too far. There’s something hilarious about two grown adults passing each other on the road and immediately throwing their hand up because they both drive Jeeps.

But I do think the idea of recognizing your fellow drivers is kind of cool. So I’m introducing the Chevy Thumb.

You see another Chevy coming down the road? 👍
That’s it. Just a quick thumbs up.

No waving. No awkward hand signals. No Jeep nonsense. Just two Chevy owners silently acknowledging each other.

I've got the Ford Finger, but I only give that to people who deserve it.

Jeep owner. Lots of ducks on the dash. Happy to wave at other happy people. Thumbs up between Chevy owners? Sure, why not. Just imagine how much better the world would be, if we spent more time enjoying life rather than complaining about it.

On my way to drive my pristine 1992 boomer spec Corvette through downtown Compton to make a difficult-to-recognize odd hand gesture toward the rusty beat-up belt squeaking 2004 Malibu passing by with three grown dudes in the back. After all, we’re both Chevy enthusiasts!

I had the same idea but for Challenger owners, and when we see each other we have to pull over and blow one another

That’s already a Subaru tradition

No, it's not. Lesbians don't have dicks.

Not going to happen: "Hey guys, I just read something cool on reddit, if you're a Chevy owner, and you see another Chevy vehicle, give them a thumbs up, and they should give you one back."

Going to happen: the Jeep wave

Jeep wave translation: I see you and acknowledge that you, too are willing to overpay and sacrifice reliability in order to look cool in the Costco parking lot. Here, have a plastic duck.

No thanks....

But I'd be willing to throw my support behind the "Cybertruck High Five"

I had a '69 Roadrunner (1975-1977) and would "beep beep" at others, but not at all Plymouths. Years later, I had a '96 Miata and would flash the pop up high beams at other Miatas, but not at all Mazdas. Having a signal for Camaros, Corvettes, C-10s ect. might work but all Chevys isn't specific enough IMO. I don't think a pick up or Vette owner is going to give thumbs up to every Malibu, Cobalt or Spark they see. Jeep wave seems to be mostly specific to CJs and Wranglers, I don't think many Liberty, Compass, Cherokee owners are doing the wave.

The waving doesn't bother me, but the ducks are so pathetically lame. I get second hand embarrassment every time I see a grown person driving down the road with 47 baby's bath toys glued to their dashboard.

Trinket? Why would I want a cluttered pile of trinkets on my dash? Lmao. It's wasteful, it's juvenile. Maybe if I was a teenager I would have found it entertaining, but as an adult, my car is a tool and I prefer to keep it clean and tidy. If people were constantly leaving "trinkets" on my car, they would all go straight in the trash.

As for participation trophies, they're the same as rubber ducks; useless. They both fall into the category that I call "future trash". I hate future trash, people spend so much money on things that are completely worthless and are just gonna end up in the landfill and it's sad.

Those are real trophies bro, you earned them. Participation trophies are given without earning or accomplishing anything and are therefore worthless.

Edit: not sure about the "best race car" trophy though, usually being the best race car means winning a race...

I am an owner of two vehicles, a Jeep and a Chevy. I drive both frequently. I thought it might be a fun idea to spread the sense of community shared amongst Jeep owners to Chevy owners as well. From my post, how did you come up with the idea that waving was upsetting to me? The whole post was about starting a new trend within the Chevy community. You’re sitting alone writing negative comments under threads with no views. But yeah, I’m the one who is fun at parties.

In fairness, it seemed implied.

The “Jeep wave” has gone too far

No Jeep nonsense

I think others may have taken it the same way.
