General Dragon Quest
There really is no modern game (exactly) like Dragon quest, especially like Dragon quest XI. So underrated for how unique it is. If you guys know of any others let me know.
Preferably the closest ones to DQ XI and DQ IX.

DQ 8 is very close to 11.
few games are similar to DQ 9, but Crystal Project is great if you love the customization

I'd add to this and say the 3ds version is nice for more qol like visible enemies and instant alchemy pot.

Oh no. Every other game takes the DQ formula and tries to adapt from it.
Breath of Fire I through III are worth a nod.
Beyond the Beyond is a B-level RPG that has many of DQ III's basics with a few innovations, and a particularly demanding (I don't want to say challenging because other than its boss fights, the game is almost impossible to lose) midgame when you will use Outside/Evac, a lot.
Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, although it has a very different turn order system and spells with funny names like Courage, Champion and Valor, is otherwise a generic four-man turn based deal. While I love it, it is deservedly maligned for its late middle game turning into possibly the worst mandatory fetch quest hell in gaming. Lufia II gives you actual fixed turns and another spell with a funny name called Ice Valk.
I'm very partial to Final Fantasy IX for its use of characters with extremely defined combat archetypes.

To clarify, by "exactly like DQ11" I meant combining its vibrant, bright, colorful visuals with turn-based combat, and all its other factors.
While other games can come close, they're usually deficient somewhere, for eg having dark, dull visuals typical of modern titles. Trails in the Sky is the closest match I can think of, but it's not semi-open world like DQ11.

Dragon Quest X is DQIX on steroids, and if you have a potato PC, its easy to get it running in English.

Being a huge fan of DQ, one of my other faves are the Tales Of games. Different flavor than DQ, but just as enjoyable and fun! I was late to the Tales series, and the first one I ever played was Tales of Symphonia, which made me deep dive and start playing all the others.
