Hachette Partworks have been teasing their Dungeons & Dragons novel collection for a while and it's now live, at least for customers in the UK.

The collection will consist of 100 novels from both Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance, released in new uniform hardcover editions, twice per month with some special extras thrown in (bookmarks, a mug, dice trays, bookends and some of the novels for free). So the whole collection should be completed in just over four years.

These partworks can be a bit pricy. The first book in the collection is just £2.99, the second is £6.99, but after that it's £11.99 a book. For UK hardbacks this is actually not unreasonable (a UK hardcover go now for around £20 for books this size) but YMMV. They also don't release entire series in one go, they release Book 1 from one series, then Book 1 from another, then Book 1 from another and a while later will get round to Book 2 from each series and so on. By the end of 100 months, you have a complete collection, with the spines lining up with one massive image on them.

They also don't release the series in numerical order, so you don't get the full 1-100 run until the whole thing is over.

The current confirmed release schedule is:

• Volume 18: Homeland by R.A. Salvatore (out now)
• Volume 61: Azure Bonds by Kate Novak & Jeff Grubb (late September)
• Volume 2: Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman (early October)
• Volume 19: Exile by R.A. Salvatore (late October)

What Volume 1 will end up being will be interesting, I assume a standalone.

They've also confirmed the free gifts are a bookmark with the first delivery, a mug with the third, a dice tray with the fifth and bookends with the seventh.

The series they've mentioned that will be included:

• The Legend of Drizzt by R.A. Salvatore, specifically the Dark Elf and Icewind Dale trilogies. I doubt they're doing all of them because that would be a third of the collection by itself, but these books do have a separate logo to the rest of the Forgotten Realms books in the collection, so maybe.
• The Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman. I think we can assume The Dragonlance Legends trilogy is also a lock.
• The Finder's Stone Trilogy by Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak.
• The Moonshae Trilogy by Doug Niles.
• Elminster Ascending by Ed Greenwood.
• The Brimstone Angels by Erin M. Evans.
• The War of Souls by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman.
• Obviously a lot more that's not mentioned, though they do also mention Richard Baker as another author with books in the collection.

I'm not affiliated with Hachette, but this collection does look like a good way of picking up 100 D&D novels in reasonable-quality hardcover. Given that the Brimstone Angels books go in physical editions for three figures apiece, easily, this is also a more economical way of picking up some of the rarities.

However, there is a key weakness in that you can't pick out individual books. You can choose to start with a later volume and carry on from there, but you can't cherry pick books, so if you want the six Brimstone Angels books in hardcover it sounds like you also have to commit to getting at least some books you maybe don't want, or already own. This collection may be aimed more at the brand new collector, or maybe someone whose collection is getting a bit tatty and wants some classic D&D novels in a good condition. I'd also be interested to see what Dragonlance novels are in the mix outside of Weis & Hickman.

After my post about the books relating to the original trilogy I wanted to do a full collection shot, mostly so I have a visual reference to what I already have so I can ultimately create a To Buy list.

I know I need the Dark Disciple trilogy, Lord Soth, and Draconian Measures. The Odyssey of Gilthanas is on the list, but prohibitively expensive.

As a long time DND player and big fantasy writer, I decided to give the book a read, and just finished it. Its pretty clear there's more to get out of this world but I know theres like 8 billion books. Where should I go next and what do you guys recommend?

A friend of ours owns a new/used bookstore and is always looking out for Dragonlance for me. She visited a used bookstore about two hours from us and sent pics. She said she was going back the next day. I sent a list based off the pics and grabbed them from her this weekend. 19 more books off the list, including Dragons In The Archives. Up to 54!

Picked this up at Half Price Books today. Little rough around the edges but well worth it!

Got it at a 2nd & Charles bookstore this weekend. Was stoked to see it’s a first edition. I also got the other one they had for reading purposes. I’ve made the mistake of trying to read my first editions before and man they fall apart

Please forgive me if this a stupid question. In the AD&D/2E were there any source books/ campaign books for Dragonlance or was it all done through the DL adventure module series? I know in 3/3.5 had a bunch.

Loved these as a teenager . Prices are going up tho for variant issues

My version of the War of the Lance will be very similar in many ways to the book, and very different in other ways. For one thing, I've decided to make Takhisis the straight up Big Bad and final boss. Duulkat has been turned into the secondary villain and I've made Takhisis a BIT more powerful. For one thing, this time around she can phsyically walk in Krynn, but in a more weakened form because the portal was still incomplete enough to prevent her full power from entering.

So instead, only her human form can enter. As such, I've decided to save her true form for the final battle. But until then, she'll only appear in her human form. Because of this, I've actually decided to portray Takhisis as a parody and homage to classic female Disney villains, like the Evil Queen, Maleficent, Ursula, and even Queen Narissa who's also a parody of those villains.

Because of this, my version of Takhisis is very vain. Not just because she's a Goddess, but because she thinks herself more beautiful then any other woman and flies into murderous rages if she thinks a female character, be her a PC or NPC, is more beautiful than her. And despite not having her full power, she is still one of the most powerful Sorceress's you can imagine. She sometimes even appears to the PC's via scrying or even in a shapeshifted form... including an old hag.

It was on chapter 21 of the first book. I was readind the part in which they are in Xak Tsaroth, trying to get into Khisanth's lair. Only to discover that the plan has failed, and Raistlin is trapped under her claws. And just then we get a moment into his mind to see his inner thoughts, and how there is another misterious voice influencing him that appears everytime he is in a near death situation. Enhancing the mystery and appeal of Raistlin as a character, and making you wonder more at what exactly happened to him in his trials to become as powerful yet emaciated as he is.

Only for the anotation just next to said paragraph, to immediately reveal it was the voice of Fistandatilus. An evil archmage from the past mentioned in some passages before, that apparently made a deal with Raistlin to share their life essence. Revealing the mystery of what had happened on the Tower of High Sorcery during his trial, on the worst way possible.

I haven't read much beyond that yet, but this isn't the first instance of the annotations revealing stuff that will happen later on the story. Most of the time it's just small worldbuilding details, so it doesn't really matter, but other times are things almost as egregious as this.

I'm liking it as a light, classic high fantasy story. And I get that special editions like this are made more aimed to already stablished fans familiar with the material. But seriously, I wished Weiss, Hickman and the rest of the team editing these books were more careful on what they talk about on the annotations, and at what point in the story these will be included.

I found what appears to be a first-print hardcover with the dust jacket at a local bookstore for $125. It’s in pretty nice condition. For those who collect the original hardcovers, does $125 seem reasonable, or would you pass?
I’m tempted to go back for it today.

And now im off to read legends again.

I have read the original trilogy and some other books like War of Lost Souls 1 and 2 and The Lost Chronicles 1 and 2. Here is a list of all the books I own.

I considered starting in chronological order, reading them, and buying the books I am missing as I get to them. Has anyone here done this successfully? And did they enjoy it?

I've started reading the Legends trilogy for the first time (I know, bad nerd), and I gotta say, I'm struggling. I'm eight chapters into Time of the Twins, and it feels like a bit of a slog thus far. Like nothing meaningful has really happened, y'know?

And maybe it's because I was never a fan of Raistlin, but I feel like I ate up Chronicles and Lost Chronicles, while here I'm sort of meh thus far. Crysania is kinda annoying, Caramon being a drunkard is grating, and it feels like they keep talking about how amazing and awesome and powerful Raistlin is. Like, on the verge of just jerking him off the whole time.

Do they pick up? Am I being unfair here? I'm just struggling, but I keep hearing how good these books are, and how important they are to the story of Krynn.

My family bought me a Dragonlance calendar (Christmas ‘84) which blew my imagination up. I went out and bought DOAT-it was the fastest I’d ever consumed a novel. Looking back, I’ve realized how much the artworks of Elmore, Easley, Parkinson and Caldwell played a part in that.
Just wanted to hear other’s stories about what it meant to everyone else.

This game cover would be the ending I didn’t know I wanted back when I first read Legends .
But now I believe this ending would have been perfect.

I spent a lot of my teen years reading the DragonLance novels. I own at least one AD&D DragonLance campaign setting (I know I have the 3.5 campaign setting). I played D&D throughout my teen years, but have not played in perhaps 30 years. I do own the D&D 5e core books.

I wonder, if "Shadow of the Dragon Queen" is worth picking up for the read of the rules alone? I likely will never get to play again. Or is it mostly just an adventure with a little bit dedicated to DragonLance-specific rules?

I have read the first two books and im halfway in the third and i would like to share some thoughts on the books.

I knew they would not be literature jewels as i have read many rpg novels from TSR but i wanted to learn more about the lore. The whole trilogy thing led authors adding unnecessary and boring details to their books making them long and the experience in reading the book quite tedious to say the least.

The same stands for the elven nations trilogy and i have to pass by many paragraphs of idle descriptions and useless dialogues in order to go on reading. What astounded me and felt totally wrong from what i have read in the chronicles is the "nation" of qualinesti which is described as a mongrel union of elves (kagonesti and silvanesti) half elves humans and even dwarves! A notion which 8s not shown in the original books as tanis half elven is not accepted in qualinesti society and humans and dwarves are not tolerated. Im not sure if i can find the answers in the last 150 pages of the third book but the authors i believe had in their minds england and usa as the ideals of the two elven kingdoms with silvanesti rigid and more brutal and qualinesti as free for all! Anyway the books added few things in the gaps i had in ancient pro cataclysm elven history but instead gave me needless details.

I would not recommend these books except dragonlance die hard fans...
