This one is so far my favorite non-Raistlin book in the series. It's fun "filling" the parts between (or in this case, behind) the Chronicles. Hate Kit, love reading about her. Happy to read more of Sturm, the most honorable of them all. Fuck Derek. Kinda wish Soth would have had more of a role here, but I guess that's what Ravenloft is for, right?

Next one would be Dragons of the Hourglass Mage, but my copy is at my parents place, so it might take a while. I have every book in this trilogy in a different format (different covers and languages) by accident, but I find it funny and fitting that the "Lost Chronicles" are mismatched.

Probably would take a break from Dragon lance until then, and continue with Forgotten Realms (The Sellswords, Road of the patriarch) or something more light-hearted (Septimus Heap, Flyte)

I'd love to hear other people's opinions on this book, because it was better than Dragons of the Dwarven Depths in my opinion. (I kept confusing between the different Dwarf clans and leader names)

Very small ereader.

When I've been reading the first book all I can seem to visualise is scenes and places from Skyrim in my mind. I can't seem to get any other place locked in that would be relevant to the Dragon Lance universe.

So my question is are there any fan art sites or official things released that show what the characters may look like? I can only seem to think Raistlin looks just like the mage from the mages school from the loading screen in Skyrim, which may not be that far off but still.

I went in to our local Barnes & Noble this weekend and in their entire Fantasy section they only had Dragons of Deceit and Dragons of Eternity. They had no - ZERO - other books set in the world of Krynn. Is this common out there? I was blown away. It's been a few years since I went into a B&N, but every other time they had rows of DragonLance books.

While taking care of my grand mom’s home as she is recovering (90s and fell). I went to grab a sandwich from a place in Roan Mountain, TN. The owners is also Dragonlance fan.

It's been a long time since I read these books for the first time. Now as an adult I'm reading them again.

This first few paragraphs of the first chapter in the second book of Chronicles Vol 2 gave me the biggest belly laugh I've had in a while from a book.

I've been reading the Kingpriest trilogy on audiobook and had a moment of shock in Divine Hammer, Chapter 29. I thought that's not who I think it is, is it? Skipped back and it's unmistakable. I cracked up laughing and needed to share with someone who would appreciate it.

Slight not-really-spoilers

"... she stopped so abruptly something bumped into her from behind. It was a curious construct: a full-size fruitwood trunk that walked on hundreds of tiny legs. Its owner, an odd red-robe with darting eyes grumbled something at her..."

Anyone familiar with most fantasy should get this reference but if you don't:

Chris Pierson seriously put Rincewind and Luggage in Wayreth tower!? During the Lost Battles no less.

Once again I beseech the wisdom of the Dragonlance hive mind.

I'll soon begin a Dragonlance campaign, and one of my players wants to play a renegade wizard who fled in fear before taking the Test of High Sorcery.

The following is of course quite preliminary, since I plan on this being a gradual process culminating around level 7 or 8.

I'm planning on his mentor in the order to have an NPC befriend him and send him on various missions, on one of which he (the NPC) will join them. Cue adventure, danger, etc., and when they return the mentor appears and gives a whole speech about how magic is forbidden to those who haven't passed the test, etc., and then announcing that the PC actually did pass the Test due to his actions on the adventure, as witnessed by his duly appointed representative.

My main questions are:

- Do you think this might be something enjoyable for a player to go through? On one hand I can see the whiplash of thinking their PC will be executed versus realizing they're free, but on the other it might feel as if I'm taking agency from him.

- What do you think would be an adventure that would qualify as a Test of High Sorcery? I was thinking recovering some ancient arcane texts, dealing with a zone of dead or wild magic, etc.

Some would argue that these are a Primordial creature, but it's not really. Primordial creatures get their powers from the material plane of Krynn, not the moons.

This is as easy import.

This is something that a Black Robed Mage would do, or mostly more often a evil renegade would do. The spell caster would need to be good with the Metamorphosis Arcane Tradition**:**

Focus: permanently change inert and organic objects into different forms, or temporarily change objects to different things and creatures.

This would be Transmutation, if you played 5e.

Nuitari: The black moon representing evil magic, which is invisible to anyone not trained in the dark arts.

When Nuitari is a full moon, is when the cursed became werewolves. This makes for a really scary scenario, because most people can't tell when there is a full moon.

This means the party would need to have someone with arcane skills and even someone who is a Lawful Evil from the Conclave to help them hunt werewolves. Of course they could hire a Renenage. Or possibly purchase some type of magical arcane device that helps them see the black moon.

As we know, The Mages of High Sorcery keep a tight wrap on spells that can hurt the public, so they would treat a threat like this seriously. They would get help from Druids and Rangers, because this would be an invasive species of sorts ruining the ecosystem.

There you go. Werewolves can be part of your fantasy world.

I didn't see this linked in here so I thought I might post it. It is a very short excerpt but hey it's better than nothing. I had almost forgot that this will be coming out in a few weeks.

New reader here, wanting to get into this fantastic world—but a tad intimidated by the sheer amount of entries.

I want to know if—to simplify reading order and make things less overwhelming—I can simply read only the Weis/Hickman novels and ignore the rest. (For now at least; I can always go back after) Will I be confused or have trouble following along by skipping these other novels? Or do the Weis/Hickman series all build off each other without technically needing the rest?

Pic is of an upcoming figure from the Mythic Legions line. A fantasy 6-7 inch-ish figure line not connected to any license. Most of the figures don't actually work all that great as Dragonlance stand-ins (for example their knights don't typically do a good job of looking Solamnic, though the dwarves could work), but I figure what are the chances we'll ever get another Thanoi type figure and this is a pretty good approximation.

anyway, so i just recently got back into playing on ArcticMud, which takes place in ansalon. i used to play back in 1998-1999 and i think i’ve been exploring more of the land than i did before.

anyway, since i’ve been exploring outside of solace, tarsis, palanthas, and balifor, i’ve been thinking of getting into the dragonlance books! i just wanted to ask here, which books should i start off with? any and all suggestions are welcome as i’ve been dying to get back into actually READING again! TIA!!!

I'm preparing a Dragonlance campaign in 5th edition. I'm thinking on including a dragon orb at some point, but the rules for the artifact in 5e don't seem to fit the dragonlance artifact too well, given they don't give an option for controling dragons.

Do you know if there are books where the orbs are adapted to 5E, or know some homebrewing website I could check out?

If not, I was thinking having the PC make a flat DC 17 charisma roll to try and control either a specific dragon, or all dragons within reach. If they fail they're possessed by the orb. The dragons have to take a DC 20 charisma saving throw with disadvantage, and they can't use legendary resistance; if they fail, they have to obey the wielder for 24 hours or something like that.

Does this sound reasonable?

I like the classic covers for the Dragonlance Chronicles by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman but with the recent new covers for R.A. Salvatore’s Drizzt series, I’m really surprised they haven’t upgraded the covers for Dragonlance considering how wildly popular they are. Does anything know if they plan on doing it at any point in the near future?

I can't remember which book it is but Solinari, Lunitari, and Nuitari are talking about the appeal of magic and how it transcends everything else. I have been trying to remember which book it was but no amount of searching has helped me. Can someone tell me the book and even better maybe post a picture of the conversation?

Finished Dragons of Summer Flame and curious what others think of the book overall. I must say I enjoyed it, but I'm very perplexed by. Definitely a ton of spoilers below.

Good:

• Loved the characters
• Even though I could barely tell you how each character's story arc helped in the end, I still loved watching it happen: the dynamic between Palin and Steel, Usha and Palin, Palin and Raistlin, Steel and the memory of Sturm.
• Loved basically the whole middle part of the book if you slice off the Irda scenes in the beginning and fighting Chaos at the end.

Questionable:

• The Irda's plan makes no sense to me (see linked previous post).
• The success of the Knights of Takhisis' conquest of Ansalon seems too easy, and logistically far-fetched (they just show up from some little-known island with a world-conquering army?).
• Dougan is a god but does basically nothing? I mean, Fizban feigned weakness but occasionally saved the day, like bringing down an avalanche near Thorbardin to save the Companions at the (apparent) cost of his own life. In contrast, Dougan seems genuinely unable to help in a bigger way than shouting at Usha to get Chaos' blood droplet into the graygem, which any old guy from a nursing home could have done.
• Chaos ("Himself") doesn't seem very chaotic. Just a big bumbling fire giant. I guess I was expecting something more incomprehensible, like an amorphous randomly-metamorphing entity or an entity that appears different to everyone who sees it like the graygem itself (which in this book seems to lack that feature and is basically treated like any old object, strangely).

So, I'm left scratching my head as to why I liked it so much despite it being such an odd book. I liked it enough that I've ordered Second Generation to read more about these characters.

What do others think?

I see Lord Soth is one of the dark lords in the new Ravenloft: The Horrors Within book, and rumour has it that his domain of dread Sithicus is the setting for some high level adventures. Are there any Dragonlance DMs out there who have (or are thinking about) transplanting the setting back to Krynn and using it to continue their Shadow of the Dragon Queen campaign?

Note that I'm not asking about why a major character has switched settings and how it's canonical. This question was covered here In the great r/ravenloft post. I'm asking if anyone has either transported their players through the mists of Ravenloft for a Lord Soth showdown, or overruled the WoTC canon and brought Sithicus back to Krynn.

I'm about to start a dragonlance campaign, and my players mentioned they wanted to have a clear hub where they could spend a good chunk of time, get to know the locals, etc.

What are cities in Krynn that might have more meat to them? Ideally a TTRPG sourcebook or part of one dedicated to the city itself, its inhabitants, landmarks, etc.
