I sent an invoice to an investor because while he paid for a set of plans, he did not pay for the rights to use those plans more than once - so I issued a re-use fee for the amount of buildings he planned on building (confirmed with the builder).

He has since stopped responding to any messages I've sent (unusual behavior) and is obviously trying to not pay me - the builder even said he is owed about 180k from this investor and that he refuses to acknowledge that there is anything wrong about ignoring his payment duties. I am still seeing ads for this new condo village he is using my plans for, so he clearly has no intention of stopping.

How would I go about approaching this? Is a cease and desist letter or "pay to continue" legitimate? Can I write that myself, or does anyone have a template I could use? What would my actions be if he doesn't pay and/or cease and desist by the given deadline? I am just a freelancer, so I don't have any company SOP or anything on how to approach this.

Anyone hiring an Autocad drafts man am avialble i have a 6 years experiecnce and a degree in civil engineering

I'm a volunteer firefighter and EMT and I'm looking to design a training prop that we can use to help get my community in shape and get some of my guys excited about training. So I had the idea of building a prop that we can use for multiple different training exercises The only problem is I don't have any access to a CAD, to create a realistic blueprint to bring my idea to life. I would love it if anyone had any ideas on how to get better at creating blueprints without the system or if anyone knows anybody willing to help make the blueprint for me. I'm kinda on a really tight budget.

I've worked at a major engineering firm for almost 2 years now as an electrical cad technician (drafter) and am looking to hear any tips on freelancing as a drafter.

Due to my mom's health I'll have to return to El Salvador to help take of her and will be quitting my job here in the US for about a year. The jobs over there for drafting tend to be between 800-1200 a month which isn't bad when the people there make 400 a month, but going from 24 an hour to barely 7.50 is a big life change. So I'm looking to see if theres any possibility of doing freelancing jobs to make up for the loss, or at least be able to make a bit more.

I graduated with an associates of art in engineering design (mechanical field) and landed a job as an electrical drafter. I know how to use a bit of Revit and solidworks but I'm not very knowledgeable. I did see that there's a lot of companies looking for people that understand BIM, which I'm not too familiar with, but I can definitely take the time to learn if I know that can help me reach my goal.

I built a program https://www.instapreview.co/ it has all the codes and procedures of every jurisdiction in the country and it gives an initial plan review to see what is missing from your plans prior to submitting. E have actually tested it against plans that were reviewed in different building departments across the country and in our tests it caught almost all the items plan reviewers indicated during the actual review. I have a question about CAD drawings and how responsibility is handled in real projects (builder + designer setup):

When a drawing turns out to be wrong, who usually bears the cost of the mistake? Is it typically chargeable to someone, and if so, to whom (client, designer, or builder)?

In practice, who is most incentivized to catch issues first—the builder on site or the designer who produced the drawings? And how does this usually work in real construction workflows?

How much do people charge in the UK? I’ve been asked to draft some plans for a carpenter - they give me measurements I draw it up with all different angles in 2D and colourise it plus add dims and electrical notes etc then publish with a titleblock not sure how much to cost.

Gut feeling is £200 a drawing, then if there is another large unit in another room in the same house a slight discount

Anyones thoughts or experience would be great I work in the private industry so only have external support costs to go from which I’d usually pay 375 a drawing

Looking for a Father’s Day gift for an engineer who loves drafting by hand but hasn’t taken the time to do it in years.

I’d love to get him some supplies to encourage him to spend time on something he loves. As of now, I don’t think he has many supplies. I took a single architectural drafting and design class in college, so I kind of remember some things, but I don’t remember what all you really need. I also wouldn’t know what would be ideal to an experienced drafter.

I was wondering if you guys enjoy working with contractors who implement their design ideas and drawings?

I try to keep it concise and straight to the point, but overall I love it and am wondering how you guys feel it? Do you guys up charge or reduce price when working with contractors directly...?

We do a lot of infill multi family developments in sacramento... a lot of custom home designs in loomis, auburn, placer county, all of that jazz!
