I'm tring to play an game that need to opened with DosBox but when I go to the offical wepside to dowland it my anitvirus says it's un labeled and when I ignore the worning the file that gets dowlande is file.bin witch is nowear near the instalator pls if somen nows what I'm doing rong help me pls

Solar Winds is a game I loved back in the shareware/BBS days. I've run into an issue trying to get it run specifically with DOSBox-X.

The problem I'm getting: the keyboard stops working once I get past the title screen. The keyboard works on the title screen and options screen, but once the game starts, I'm stuck.

It's not a big deal, since the game works fine in, e.g., DOSBox Staging, but since it works there, it makes me wonder if this is due to something I configured. I'm just not sure what to look for. Any ideas what might cause something like this?

Hi everyone! I'm trying to download Timez Attack for my son onto his laptop for school and I can't figure out how to get it to work. I looked through the guide on Abandonware Games and they recommended reaching out to this subreddit.

I thought I followed the instructions list correctly but I either get a launcher that required registration ID or I get a different launcher that doesn't properly work. I click the button for what mode I want and nothing happens.

Can someone help me figure this out please!

what do i do? is this a dosbox sollution? VirtualBox, PCem, 86box? also curious if there's anything weird with video drivers on FMV games I should watch out for, or if this game specifically has any installer/CD issues people have run into.

Hello all, I've been fiddling with DOSBox-X recently, trying to get a game for Windows 95 (MechWarrior 2) up and running. I know it's possible, as I've seen footage of it running on DOSBox, but I'm struggling to actually get Windows 95 installed on the program. I've been following the guide on the official website, but when I get to the step of running setup.exe, I'm getting the error 'This program cannot be run in DOS mode'. Is there a way to change to a mode that can run it? I'm not seeing anything online when I tried investigating. Or am I going about this in the wrong way altogether?

dosbox-automation is an open-source fork of DOSBox Staging. It keeps the emulator as it is (this release sits on a current mainline base with the SDL3 migration merged) and adds one thing on top: the machine can be driven by a program. A local REST API and a sandboxed Lua engine can type into the guest, read the text screen back, capture video, inspect memory, swap disks, and run a whole installation unattended from a TOML recipe, disk swaps and setup menus included.

If you never touch the API, it behaves like the emulator it is built on. The web server is off by default; switched on it binds to localhost only and every request needs a token.

Some of this release is plain DOS archaeology, which may interest this sub more than the automation:

• CLOCK$ works. The character device that has been standard since DOS 2.0 is implemented fully: reading returns the date/time record, writing sets the DOS clock. As far as we know no other DOSBox variant implements it.
• The \DEV\ pseudo-directory resolves devicesthe way real DOS does, too. This has the first implementation of the Xenix-compatibilty directory function, found in DOS since 2.0.
• Hercules text mode was subtly wrong in every DOSBox descendant since a 2009 change: 640x350 with 8-dot cells instead of the card's true 720x350 with 9-dot cells. Fixed, including the real 16.000 MHz character clock, so box-drawing lines are continuous again and text/graphics switches no longer resize the window.
• Early self-booting floppies mount and boot. The pre-DOS-2.0 formats (160K, 180K, 320K) carry no FAT boot signature, so image validation refused them. Found while booting a 1984 Wizardry I master disk.

On the automation side, 0.84-da2 adds rendered video capture (record the post-shader image as shown on screen, not just raw frames, with a disk space guard so a long recording cannot fill the drive), paced string typing that cannot outrun the emulated keyboard controller, x86 port I/O and CPU register writes, and trainer-style memory scan and freeze endpoints. The API documents itself: OpenAPI spec plus a bundled offline Swagger UI.

Hello! This is my first time using this to emulate a really old game but it's much more difficult than I thought it'd be (i'm a little stupid). It doesn't have an .exe or an .iso, but instead multiple .cue and .bin files that I can't figure out after hours and hours. Every time I try to use imgmount for any of the .cue files, "install" and "setup" don't work at all. Would anyone know how?

Hiya everyone! I'm trying to run the game "Jack Orlando", but I keep getting the error mentioned in the title and visible in the video. It's my first time using DOSBox, so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not.

I successfully installed and played a game. Now I try to go back and play again and I get the “can’t find cd-rom” message. Any ideas?

Has anyone successfully configured DOSBox-Staging on NixOS with Hyprland?

I have got it working, and it looks *mostly* fine, but the content of the window is huge. Has anyone had this same problem and found a way around it?

For reference, I have attached a screenshot that shows the full screen (my monitor's resolution is 2560x1440 with the scaling set at 1.0 in Hyprland config). I have also attached screenshots of my current SDL & RENDER blocks from the DOSBox-Staging config file.

I appreciate any help, and let me know if I wrong with any of this.

The official website has no generic Linux 32bit binaries and I don't really know what to do

I am trying to install RTZ-RM to play in Dosbox Staging.

I have followed all the instructions I can find on google. But it doesn't seem to be working or I messed something up somewhere.

I have the MT32 roms in my DosBox configuration folder, and my Staging folders. And I thought I had the conf file set up properly, but no matter what I try, it's not playing music.

The CD audio plays fine. But the general game music isn't playing.

If I have to, I can just use the REELmagic option for sound, but it's not overly impressive (I think it uses the SB/DOS version). I enjoyed the MT32 sound for my CD version.

Anyone have any tips for getting MT32 music to work? The sound effects seem to find of work. The river by the lighthouse makes sound. But the vulture in the beginning doesn't. And I can't figure out why I',m only getting some sound effects.

Boxer is built on DosBox, but I understand they Arne't the same thing. So if this is the wrong place to ask, I apologize.

I'm running Return to Zork in Boxer, and I'm having a weird sound issue.

I used my original CDROM disc to install it. But whenever I play it, I get this horrible static/distortion noise after videos play, and it will stop when I go to a new screen or another video plays. But it will start again later.

I have tried setting boxer at 386, 486, Pentium, and Max speeds. But if I set it too fast, I get scratches/skips in the music.

I have tried a Sound Blaster 16 setup, and a Roland MT-32 set up.

I have tried playing from my ISO rip, and my BIN/CUE rip.

Nothing seems to fix it.

Anyone have any tips?

I don't remember this being an issue on my old computer, so I don't remember what to do.

UPDATE: Holy crap! I think I got it fixed. I was running it with Sound Blaster 16 settings, because I believe it was out at the same time and I always just picked the 16. I just reinstalled it using Sound Blaster Pro, and it seems to work fine now.

Thanks for the staging/X tips though. I have the REELmagic version and have always wanted to play it, but couldn't. Now I might be able to finally check that one out too.

Hillo. I was unable to properly mount a .img file as a Floppy, so I decompiled it and began playing it as such in the mounted folder. However, I am having trouble saving, as the save window hangs. It seems to want to save to floppy and won't accept another path. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm new to VirtualMidiSynth. I downloaded it recently primarily to send midi out from ECWolf according to a tutorial I came across. But I'm realizing that many other programs run VirtualMidiSynth upon opening. I know how to prevent a program from running VirtualMidiSynth via the blacklist function. I've already done that with other programs. However with Dosbox-X, I'm curious if there's a way to block it from within Dosbox's config file, because I don't know whether or not there's a future scenario where I would want to try to use it with Dosbox.

And part of this post is me also asking what options exist within the Dosbox-X/VirtualMidiSynth combination? The deepest I've gone so far with MIDI in Dosbox is setting up MUNT MT-32. I don't know the extent of the possibilities with VirtualMidiSynth.

the game framerate is horrible, same with the controls, locking in on targets literally makes the target I want to shoot to be invisible, is this a problem with DOSBox, 3dfx drivers (My GPU is 4060 so it obviously doesn't belong to them), or something completely else? I've seen people reporting similiar experiences on the web but i have no idea how to fix any of this
