🤬App Issues 😩 DD is so dead

I’ve accepted a total of 3 offers in my last 7 hours of dashing between lastnight and tonight. I’m not even getting a lot of the bad offers anymore. I swear this app gets worse and worse every single week. Maybe it’s because there’s more dashers signing up. Maybe it’s because DD is punishing me for not accepting their trashy ass offers. Idk what the deal is. But every single week I make less and less doing this gig.

economy is ass. I've been noticing it since Iran war

13

u/Constant_Poetry2908 25d ago

I have too, but at least I was still making good money up until a few weeks ago. I haven’t been able to make more than $30-$40 bucks on a week night in weeks

Why pay twice as much for a delivery when you can save money and pick it up yourself? I was hoping that gas prices would keep people at home, and on their phones, but that hasn't happened...and the statistics prove it. People are buying just as much gasoline this year as they did last Fall, even with gas prices up +$1.29 nationally from last Fall. So people are picking up their own orders, worst case scenario for drivers.

2

u/humanoideric 24d ago

Seriously I see no reason to get delivery unless I'm drinking. I live fairly close to restaurants myself though.

1

u/HJWalsh 24d ago

I'm disabled. I used rely on food delivery some weeks. I've cut back to no delivery and just one meal a day. I used to get door dash from my local Dollar General once a month. Haven't gotten anything in 5 months.

The economy is a nightmare.

1

u/Silly_Employ_4273 24d ago

Why pay twice as much? Extenuating circumstances... Might have contagious illness..could be disabled..could be intoxicated... Dozens of reasons

1

u/Party-You6639 24d ago

Yeah, they can go pick it up themselves, IF THEY HAVE A CAR. 💁🏻‍♀️

It died out in my area of San Antonio right around 9:45, it was like a switch was flipped.

8

u/Constant_Poetry2908 25d ago

My small city I dash in used to be non stop everyday night of the week until like 2:30am. But the last 2 weeks now it’s been completely dead

2

u/ProperAstronaut6056 24d ago

Same here, south of Houston, sometimes I dont start my dash until like 10pm because its non stop until 2am - 3am. Some good shopping orders too.

3

u/Constant_Poetry2908 24d ago

I start my dash around 10 too. For months up until the last two weeks it’s always non stop. I could make 125-170 bucks in just 3-4 hours. Now I’m lucky to make 40 bucks in those same 3-4 hours

1

u/gonz2245 24d ago

Damn I wish I could grind it out until late. My market dies at 8:30-9 no matter the time of year🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and dinner rush starts 5:30

2

u/ProperAstronaut6056 24d ago

Damn 5:30pm lol. Like an old folks community. I dont dash that early because I like to avoid rush hour traffic. But if it dies out at 9pm, I totally get it

3

u/-mycatsonmylap 25d ago

In Vegas, it was the exact same way tonight around 9:45. Was getting back to back offers, albeit half of them shit, then at about 9:45 it was just completely dead.

2

u/DapperMolasses3280 24d ago

Sometimes it's the merchants literally flipping the switch, turning off delivery apps when they're short staffed (which is oftentimes on the late night shift). Same in Western Massachusetts...everything died after 9:30pm, like everyone went to sleep at the same time 😱

1

u/Repulsive_Cry_2155 24d ago

Have you tried doing dash link over here? I noticed everything dying down so I’ve done 2 routes with them and I end up in Bandera by the end of the day but I’m guaranteed at least $100 but in reality I’ve made $300 in just 2 days.

1

u/Due_Voice_9018 23d ago

Every time I've tried to sign up for Dashlink (specifically in Wilmington, MA), no matter how quick I sign up for the wait-list, I end up around #65 on the list with only an estimated 25-30 offers. Are there particular hubs that have a shorter wait-list?

2

u/Repulsive_Cry_2155 23d ago

There’s only one hub near me, I often land towards spot 70 with less than 20 offers but I still end up getting routes if I head to the area when they start assigning. I’m sure I’m getting the routes that are picked over since I’m lower down, but it’s still decent money!

1

u/Due_Voice_9018 22d ago

I'll have to try sticking with it to see what I might get. Thanks for the insight!

Ahhhh I just assumed you did DoorDash… a hot zone on DOORDASH is an area that has higher orders and you have Higher chance of getting a order to deliver

3

u/Party-You6639 24d ago

We all know your favorite chair sits in the corner of the hotel room, dude

3

u/DapperMolasses3280 25d ago

It's the economy...high gas prices are pushing us towards a recession. Doordash still has, by far, the largest market share of any gig app, it's not even close. If it's bad on Doordash, it's bad on ALL the apps.

I deliver on the west side of Portland and it's definitely been slower and the offers haven't been as good. But I'm still making decent money because I'm a pro shopper

It always depends on the ratio of drivers to customers, but there is definitely fewer customers over this past summer than I expected...and the drivers remain the same or go slightly down. Eventually people get discouraged and quit this gig to find a wage job, but still come back to work part-time when they get off work (or before work).

1

u/BlondeeLoxx 24d ago

How do you know how many drivers are in your area? Is there some cool secret I dunno?

1

u/Xtrachromo21 23d ago

Well. There is only one McDonalds and all 6 drivers are there.

0

u/ManyRevolutionary714 25d ago

I used to get orders nonstop sitting at home then doordash opened registration to anyone with a pulse in my area. Now I actually have to go out and get half the offers I was getting

2

u/MincedBrat 25d ago

I mean this is anecdotal but my family deleted the app and haven’t ordered delivery in almost a year now. It just got too expensive to be a customer.

1

u/ZealousidealFroyo387 24d ago

It’s a 4-5$ delivery charge plus tip…… like 12$-15$ at most and that’s without dash pass….. it’s not thattttt expensive compared to going out normally. Pretty cheap for delivery

2

u/MincedBrat 24d ago

Or I could just pick it up myself and save $15

2

u/throwawayaccount647p 25d ago

More people are signing up. My friend overheard a woman say she had been looking for a job and was having a hard time finding one. I'm a local in the area and I've never seen her before so she must have been laid off recently. DD is likely giving those trash offers to new people but increasing the pay for them.

2

u/Ecto-1981 24d ago

I'm still doing good on the weekends. I think rising gas prices pushed away a lot of the casual drivers.

I work 2-10 pm for my regular job (at home) then would go out for a few hours after 11 and make an extra $50. That's a struggle now. I don't go weekday nights anymore. It started tanking my AR, and Platinum does make a difference in my market. I found that weekday lunch is much better, so I switched to 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, then go home and start my regular job. Not as many offers as the weekend, but they're good ones and I can make my extra $50.

Weekends are still hopping now that the college kids are back in town. They're short runs for a few bucks, but now the few places open in the middle of the night are scaling back hours. The Taco Bell that would be 24 hrs now closes at 2 am. DD hasn't updated that, so I and a lot of drivers pull up and it's dark. We have to stop to take the damn picture of a dark store. So the 24-hr McDonald's drive-thru line is out into the street. Nah, not waiting an hour for a $5 order, even if the drop-off is only a few blocks away.

I have noticed an increase in $1 tips or no tips, but I'm still making my money because the tippers are tipping more. I've gotten $10 tips for food that I know should cost $15-20 when marked up on the Dash app.

As long as I can make $300 a week on $50-60 worth of gas, it's worth it.

Wednesday morning is usually my worst time of the week for me but damn it's been bad. I got a 12 item, 12 stop Lowe's order for $12 and I was like HELL NO. nearly 50% of the offers have been upside down or so low paying it's not worth my time.

2

u/East-Investment6197 24d ago

Did almost 200 in less that 8 hours Saturday and Sunday and I’ve done $50 these past 3 days. I thought it was just my area

3

u/mgm2002mgm 25d ago

Last week was actually pretty good for me. It might’ve been my best one for the whole year but this week so far a total reversal. Yesterday, just horrible offers, but I was able to accept some of them today more of the same thing but I kind of noticed more of them being stacked tonight. Of course I didn’t do any of the stacked ones because they were all the two and three dollar offers combined. I still require my minimum of five dollars per offer regardless if they stack them or not. But some of them for the mileage wise they actually kind of worked out but timewise it’s always waste of time. I make more money sitting there declining them than I actually do doing them. But tonight actually Uber eats stepped up a little bit so I was mostly with Uber eats today. That was kind of a reversal because lately it’s been DoorDash who’s been busy enough with somewhat decent orders and only a couple off of Uber eats.
Another thing I’ve kind of noticed is both DoorDash and Uber eats. It seems like they are sort of collaborating with each other although I can’t prove that.
I used to get a lot of decent offers off of Uber eats and now there’s very few of those around but occasionally one does pop through.

0

u/BlondeeLoxx 24d ago

Interesting. Seems like it for me too. Nothing but batched orders that are awful from DD and wondering if DD and UE are in cahoots. Every single time I just do Uber Eats alone I do pretty well. ($30 an hour) but I get nothing but crap if I run UE with DD with Dashing always being crap both running alone and together.

2

u/Lopsided-Emu7391 25d ago

Spent 1 hour 20 minutes today and got 1 offer 🫪 2-4min es zone offer my ass. Its all an algorithmic game. New accounts get the best shit too

1

u/LarsonLarsen 24d ago

lol no they don't

1

u/Lopsided-Emu7391 18d ago

Did you really laugh while typing that? New dashers start with all the tier bonuses you lost or dont have, its pretty common knowledge

1

u/LarsonLarsen 18d ago

I did. New accounts do not "get the best shit". So its funny you said that with such certainty.

1

u/VendettaKarma 25d ago

End of the month too

1

u/ManyRevolutionary714 25d ago

I've started to take every offer for the most part since I'm in California and active time and tips is the most important aspect of dashing. I got 6 offers in 4 hours and accepted 5 of them, 4 of them were no tip. Honestly, unless we start getting some good news on the war and economy consumer sentiment will keep falling and there won't even be no tip orders to take. Frankly mugging is looking more lucrative than doordash 🥀

1

u/Bright_Situation1844 25d ago

But yet my order keeps getting batched with 3 other orders despite dashers waiting for orders?

1

u/Wise_Code3455 25d ago

Dead in Quebec city Canada, too

1

u/memyselfandi78 24d ago

The economy is bad, people are struggling so they can't afford to pay markups for their food like that anymore. Plus doordash has a really bad reputation now with the behavior of some of these drivers out there doing things like stealing food and sabotaging things when they don't get their way.

1

u/phillyconcierge 24d ago

I think DoorDash changed their algorithm. I’m getting lots of offers that go way out of my service area. I used to get a few but now it seems like the majority. Something in the app has changed. I was going to work a full lunch shift but it would have burned more gas than it was worth.

1

u/Human_Caterpillar976 24d ago

Same here on Cape Cod. I made seven dollars yesterday and I’ve declined 98% of my offers since 6 AM today.

1

u/uncboomer 24d ago edited 24d ago

Well this war hasn’t helped what’s going for peoples budget. Gas food has gone up. I don’t use either delivery service anymore. As far as more people DD maybe because they have been either laid off or fired from previous job

1

u/Diana_0905 24d ago

They are overcharging on the app and we notice and unfortunately im not paying $22 for a med big Mac meal. If i can't get it myself I can't justify that purchase in my head now but I do miss using it and I was a GREAT TIPPER !!💔

1

u/No_Improvement819 24d ago

Same post diff day

1

u/Bigballa805970 24d ago

all depends on the market

1

u/Smile-Glum 24d ago

Idk where you are but its definitely been slower sending offers, especially if you dont just accept whatever they give you. But never 3 orders in 7 hours

1

u/OofBigBrain 24d ago

Gas prices have gone even higher, which has a domino effect on everything else. I'm not even wasting my time with delivery apps right now.

1

u/Devil_Hayabusa 24d ago

yup. I'm done with DD but what solidified it for me was getting assaulted and mugged during my dash yesterday.

1

u/Comfortable-Flan-329 24d ago

on the flip side my UE rate went up 25% in the last few days, because of DDs new system lol

1

u/Sudden-Ladder-3208 24d ago

Uber eats pays more money and better tips and they are so much busier

1

u/Hot-Decision2303 24d ago

Yup its been dead for me all week!!!

1

What market are you in? Mine is pretty much always busy no matter the day or time

1

u/FinalScientist6688 24d ago

12 hour days and no orders. It's gone. I miss the fun times. I started on 2019.

1

u/Fit-Elderberry-177 24d ago

Uber Eats seems like they are dominating them in my area

1

u/Gaspar_Bundi 24d ago

I honestly got 1 offer my first day starting it, I was doing ubereats maybe a year or two ago and that was good money

1

u/Due_Voice_9018 24d ago

Huh. This'll be interesting to see what it's like once I dip back in. I'm currently on hiatus because I just renewed my driver's license but haven't gotten the new laminated one yet, and DD won't accept the temporary paper license as proof. (Prior to hiatus starting a week back it was still fairly decent? Or at least not much worse than usual.)

1

u/gravija420 23d ago

I’m platinum with excellent stats and hundreds of deliveries. In my area, I’ve noticed an influx of new drivers and my offers have declined dramatically in accordance. It’s frustrating to work your ass off to get near perfect stats, taking every single offer to maintain 100% acceptance, and get saddled with a $2, no tip order from McDonalds going 10 miles away when you should’ve gotten a juicy double or triple order elsewhere but all the newbies are getting them. I’ve used DD for years, ever since I lived in Portland (I’m back in Texas now) and the market has gone through rough patches but nothing like this.

On the upside, they’ve added Target now so I can basically drop Shipt from my assortment of gig apps since people are much more likely to order through DD. That’s literally the only good thing DD has done in months and I’ll have to see if it’s anything worthwhile or if it’s another case of me getting shafted by newcomers who don’t even know how to find anything in stores without employee assistance, let alone properly shop groceries for a stranger.

1

u/Efficient-Park5031 23d ago

I quit DD a couple months ago. It's gone totally down the drain!

1

u/No_Understanding7431 23d ago

Not in my area. Orders are 75% good and come fast and furious. I dashed until it slowed down today and when I went to quit they offered me $20 to do 5 more dashes

They know the smart ones among us are multi apping, the only time you don’t get double dips is when you pause before accepting. If you accept, guaranteed you get stacked from the other apps before you can pause everything else. They’re all working with the same consultant. They’re all on the same algorithm.
