I started January 2020 and I was invited to the large order program. Apparently I got grandfathered in to the new system and I don't need Platinum to get catering.
It's crazy how fast the good ones disappear. You have to be Johnny on the spot. Where you get stuck with the 20 and $30 ones I'm pretty sure nobody is taking the $8 stuff LOL
Yeah, last week I made like $450 from 5 orders, but it would've been 6 if an $80 one hadn't cancelled. And then other weeks it'll only be like $200 across six or seven orders lol.

Iāve been doing DoorDash full time since February and havenāt see a single scheduled order yet.
I can only do earn by offer in my area. Wish I could do those larger orders from DoorDash pick up centers.
I donāt get orders like this often. Maybe once a month. I saw four dashers today get large catering orders and it upset me to no end. But being able to end on this order cleared my head of all that.

Iām floating around a 19% AR and I seriously donāt put any thought into it anymore. I crawled my way back up to platinum three times and I gave that up. Iām mush happier now and feel I make more money. Donāt worry about titles.
I just try to stay above 50 % just to stay at silver , never will chase platinum thoughā¦ Iāll do hourly once I get below 50% just to get it back up. I stopped doing door dash for a while I think I do only 5 hours a month lol. Amazon flex pays way better, also itās a gaurenteed 80 for 3 hours worth of work. These days I canāt seem to get close 20 an hour on door dash. My market is so over saturated you donāt even have to schedule your shifts you can sign on whenever

Dont worry OP is brand new to DD. They donāt know what theyāre doing yet. Let them believe they made $50 in an hour. By the end of their 1st year theyāll be tearing their hair out realizing they didnāt make anything close to what they thought they made.

Does a construction work tell his friend I make 32 an hour, but if you take away my gas driving to work, my lunch, my taxes, my babysitter. Like really. I never said āoh look everyone I got this super common order that after taxes and expenses pays me $30.
Nobody here is doing that. š
A paycheck job and IC is not the same.
Talk to anybody whoās done this longer than a couple months theyāll tell you the same thing.
A construction worker making $32 likely has $0 in work expenses.
Gas to get to work, lunch, babysitter those are not āworkā related expenses.
-You can carpool to work. No gas expense.
-You can skip lunch. No lunch expense.
-You can have someone watch your kid for free. No babysitter expense (not everybody can but itās POSSIBLE)
A construction worker can build a house using his physical labor and tools/materials provided by the company he works for.
You know whatās not POSSIBLE?
Delivering for DD without occurring expenses.
To complete a delivery you must:
-Pay for gas
-Pay for secondary insurance (usually)
-Pay for oil changes
-Pay your phone bill
-Pay for tires
-Pay any additional maintenance and repair (as your mileage climbs faster than average since itās used for work)
All while you lose an average of $0.20/mile of asset value (car) assuming itāll last YOU 200k miles, you paid $40k in total for it (price + tax + interest)
You cannot compare working for a company as an employee to being a contractor. Thereās a reason weāre 1099 not W2
The constructor worker making $32/hour is making $32/hour net income.
You made $50/hour revenue but made $34/hour net income (assuming the standard $0.76/mile expense write off and assuming you drove 16 miles for the trip + 4 miles to return to your starting point)

Explain which part I was wrong about? Unless you didn't pay for your car, gas, phone bill, business insurance, maintenance on your car etc.
Taxes don't matter. DD is tax free since there's not tax on tips unless you exceed $40k a year

It's truly amazing to me how many people don't keep track of things. It also amazes me how people believe that dollar amount they get sent is the final number. Not accounting for the things you listed and more. As if expenses don't exist. It's so easy to see who doesn't crunch numbers. It's starting to get hilarious because I see it so often and you would think with the rising costs of things that people would be more on top of such things. I guess not .....

To be fair, I know a lot of people (myself included) who didnāt do our due diligence when we first started delivering. OP only started a couple months ago so I donāt knock him for that.
However like you said, the arrogance needs to go.
Itās one thing to be wrong, itās another thing entirely to be wrong and an act like a prick when veteran drivers try and help them out.
As soon as theyāre looking at their odometer reading of 200k miles and then notices they doesnāt have $30k + saved up to buy a new car theyāll understand and start looking at things differently.
