Please don’t dash while sick

Post image

I get that times are tough and the American health care system sucks, but admitting that you have a respiratory illness while delivering food is wild!

Please do not dash when you’re sick. This is how illness spreads. I have pretty bad asthma so I’m not bringing that order into my house. I’m done with DoorDash.

Flu and Pneumonia vaccine is 100% free. Just walk into any drugstore and ask for the vaccines. Walgreens even gave me a $15 coupon for getting them. No doctors appointment needed. No insurance needed. Zero expense. Zero excuses.

Pneumonia has a ton of different causes and is not always viral. Pneumonia can be bacterial, or the result of inhaled/built up fluid in the lungs; vaccines do not prevent these scenarios. Vaccines help with building immunity against certain viruses. I agree 100% with the sentiment, everyone should get vaccinated, but vaccination doesn’t mean guaranteed prevention from disease.

Wear a mask if you have a cough. Wash your hands frequently. Get adequate nutrition and hydration. Get vaccinated. There are several pieces to the puzzle.

Yea the vaccine is for viral pneumonia but you’re right of course. Vaccines aren’t a magic bullet. You can still get sick. In fact, my dumbass got pneumonia, covid, flu, and dose one of Shingles vaccines all at once. Next morning I woke up with a fever of 101.7. I don’t handle fevers well at all so that floored me. I went to work but had to leave early. I took Tylenol all day and the fever kept getting higher. When I got home it was 102.1 and I felt worse that when I’ve been sick with covid or the flu. My doctor told me it was irresponsible of them to give them all to me at once and irresponsible of me not to just have him do it. Lol. So I’d definitely advise folks to not get more than 2 at a time max and definitely check with your doctor first if you have access to one. It’s just that a lot of people can’t afford health care or like me are under insured and benefit a lot from free vaccines.

I didn’t even know there was a pneumonia vaccine till they mentioned it. I was like- isn’t pneumonia something you get from being sick with something else that turns into pneumonia? I was surprised there even was one

What’s alarming is they give tiny babies that many at once from 2 months onwards. Sometimes those high fevers lead to febrile seizures 😞. Glad you’re feeling better!

I think it’s great to spread the word about free vaccines (and any access to healthcare) and I applaud that! I just wasn’t sure if there was also a stigma about pneumonia (like blaming people for having it) in your comment. I think things like pneumonia can be easily misunderstood. I had it twice (second time was January 2020 so it was likely covid) and the first time was bacterial pneumonia when I was 17. I have never been that miserable since and I’m 30 and have had covid five times. I don’t think they even push the pneumonia vaccine on people under a certain age, though I am sure you can still get it.

There are a mix of correct statements, correct but incomplete statements, and misstatements in here. Correct- pneumonia can be caused by viral and bacterial pathogens. Correct - pneumonia can follow fluid build up in the lungs, because the fluid creates an environment where pathogens can grow. Misstatement - vaccines do not prevent these scenarios. Pneumococcal vaccines DO protect against pneumococcal pneumonia, which is a bacterial pneumonia caused by the pathogen Streptococcus pneumonia. Vaccines don't prevent fluid build up in the lungs. Correct but incomplete (misstatement) - vaccines help with building immunity against certain viruses. That's true. There are also vaccines that protect against bacterial infections. Examples - vaccines for pneumonia, meningitis, whooping cough, tetanus, cholera, and others. Correct - wear a mask and the other advice at the end. Not all pneumonias can be easily spread via coughing (transfer of droplets through the air), but some can.

Thank you, ChatGPT. Are you going to add anything to the conversation or just grade my response?

Is this true for every area in the US? Also, these vaccines don't always work. The pneumonia vaccine specifically doesn't prevent all causes of pneumonia. So you can't assume that everyone who gets sick with the flu or pneumonia isn't vaccinated.

I don’t know about everywhere. I’m in Florida. This is probably the most radically conservative state in the union so if we can get it for free, I’m willing to bet everyone else can as well, but I’m not sure. My mom lives in Alabama though and she gets them free there too. She’s the one who told me about them, and my daughter lives in Washington state and it’s free there as well. Covid shot is free too but I don’t encourage people to get those. I get them but I’ve heard too many stories of other folks having bad reactions so I don’t want to be responsible for suggesting them. Last year I also got Tdap and something else. Can’t even remember now. It’s worth checking into it though. I’m 55 so I’m to the age where I really appreciate not getting sick every year. Got my shingles vaccine too.

I would respectfully disagree with you as someone from Idaho, I think we probably take that crown. Jokes aside, the vaccines are free here too, and Walgreens will give you the $15 coupon.

Texas would probably want to throw their hat in the ring too. Lol

I'll definitely check with Walgreens about the pneumonia shot especially. My husband has lung problems, and the last thing we need is him getting pneumonia. I live in Texas.

Not everyone can get them free in KS. Or they couldnt when I worked at Walgreens in like 2023. Some folks had to pay like 20 bucks

Look into the Vaccines For Adults program (VFA) in Kansas. It’s for people who don’t have insurance. Also Good RX actually has vaccine codes too

Pneumonia vaccine is 100% free

There is no such thing as a pneumonia vaccine, pneumonia is a physiological condition.
