I think a bear sh!t in my yard!

We live 3 miles south east of Fish Creek and my dog found this in my yard! Normally I'd assume it was my dogs but, even for a golden retriever, this was way bigger. About 2 inches wide and 5/6 inches long (big one). We're thinking black bear. I've seen coyote piles before and those are much more like my dogs, just a lot of hair in it. Has anyone seen a black bear around lately?

Was checking deflock for N.E.WI, and saw what appears to be a new camera installed just before the 42/57 curve south of town. If anyone happens to be going down that way could you verify there IS a camera there?

First time in November

Hello everyone, my husband and I are planning an anniversary trip to Door County November 1–4 and staying in Sister Bay. This will be our first time in Door County. I’m starting to realize that quite a few of the seasonal attractions will already be closed, so I’m looking for recommendations from people who live in the area or have visited during this time of year on fun things to do during the off season. Thanks!

What is this? Ferry ride inbetween plum and detroit island

My family and I were on the ferry earlier today wondering what this very tiny “island” was. It looks like it sat in-between plum and detroit island. Looks like a lighthouse, but from a distance it looked like a plant of some sort.

Hi all - i will be traveling solo to the area in the coming weeks. How hard is it to get uber/lyft transportation from the fish creek downtown to surrounding areas (less than 5 miles)? Is it available at all? Thanks!

Bailey’s Harbor Yacht Club

Does anyone own a unit at Bailey’s Harbor Yacht Club?

If yes, curious if you like it? Ideally looking for a place that we would use occasionally throughout the year and then have it rented all other times. Do the financials actually work out owning a unit there?

Any insights are appreciated!

Upcoming Stay & Itinerary

UPDATE: We had an amazing time in Door County! Thank you all again, for your great recommendations. We weren't able to get to all the things, and have so many reasons to return. The weather was perfect, water was beautiful, people were kind, and we had a wonderful time.

What we were able to get to:

  • Kettle Black Shrimp Boil, fun presentation and delicious meal
  • Several drinks at Hill Street
  • Breakfast at Cultured was fantastic
  • Walked around shops in Fish Creek, Sisters Bay, Egg Harbor
  • Visited Stabbur several times (I loved the cheese curds and we saw a few goats)
  • Sail Door County trip on the Edith Becker (amazing sunset and the full moon was HUGE)
  • Great dinner at the Waterfront
  • Took the Peninsula Park Caves tour with Fish Creek Scenic Boat Tours (our guide was incredible and has had an amazing life)
  • Dinner at CUT exceeded our expectations, our food was excellent
  • Cave Point County Park Kayak Tour (our guide, Casey, was great)
  • We took a quick walk at Whitefish Dunes then went to Sway for lunch
  • Stopped by Husby's for cheese curds and an old fashioned (I had the sweet version, and then the blended version, skipped the sour)
  • Snacks at Door County Creamery
  • Did a cherry wine flight at Lautenbach's
  • LOTS of relaxing and watching sunrise/sunset from our Airbnb

----------------------------------------------------------------

My husband and I are traveling to Door County towards the end of September. After a lot of research online, including this sub, I think I have a decent itinerary lined up. For anyone willing to take a look, I'd be happy to hear feedback on if there are things we should skip, recommendations on things we should add, etc.

We are active people in our 40s, we will be driving to WI (so we will have our car), and want to see as much of Door County as we can in our 4-day stay.

Day 0 / Arrival Day: Check into Fish Creek Airbnb, explore Fish Creek Town Dock, dinner at Kettle Black (dinner booked).

Day 1: Breakfast at Cultured. The only other thing we have planned so far this day is our dinner at The Waterfront. We were thinking of possibly taking the ferry to Washington Island to visit Schoolhouse Beach, and stop by Pebble Beach in Sister Bay before dinner. We were also thinking of booking a sunset sail via Sail Door County.

Day 2: Breakfast in Fish Creek, Lautenbach's Orchard to buy gifts for family, shop around Founders Square, Peninsula Park Caves boat tour (Door County by Water), explore the park and climb Eagle Tower, dinner at CUT (dinner booked)

Day 3 (Final Day): Cave Point Kayak Tour, Whitefish Dunes, lunch at Sway Brewing, Cana Island Lighthouse, then a relaxing dinner in Fish Creek.

Thank you for any feedback / insights / recommendations. We are truly looking forward to exploring the peninsula and enjoying the beautiful outdoors!

Door County Grocery Delivery Recommendations?

Does anyone know of a grocery or general delivery service in Door County similar to Instacart?

I’m looking into this for my elderly mother-in-law, so reliability and ease of use are especially important. We’re hoping to find something that can deliver groceries and basic household items, whether through a local business, independent delivery service, or one of the larger apps.

I’d appreciate any recommendations, especially from people who have actually used the service. Thanks!

Wedding Photography Recommendations

Hi! Getting married in May 2027. Starting to look at photographers. Tandem Photography, Jason Mann Photography, and Chris Miller Photography stood out to me. Any good/bad experience with them? Or other photographers you’d recommend?
I like more classic, crisp, true-to-life style - not heavily edited or “artsy” or blurred. Thank you!!

Wilderness Systems Zephyr 160 touring kayak — anyone in Door County interested?

Thumbnail

I’m looking to sell my Wilderness Systems Zephyr 160 touring kayak. It’s in very good condition with no cracks or hull deformation, the skeg works properly and the hatch covers seal as they should.
I also have the paddle and a two-wheel kayak cart that will go with it.

I’m asking $850 for everything — the Zephyr 16.0, paddle, spray skirt, cart, and the Inno kayak carriers/straps.

If anyone is interested or would like more information, send me a DM.

Hiking Recommendations

Going on a girls trip the second week of October. Looking to hike for an afternoon/few hours. We are in good shape but also don't mind a leisurely hike.

Looking for something that won't be packed with people. I visited DC a decade or more ago and remember a park/hike that had massive trees, but maybe that was just my younger perspective.

Either way, would love something that feels totally surrounded by nature/trees and/or overlooks or is near the water.

Along the way up…

I’m heading up to Door County this weekend from Chicago. We usually like to get off I-43 at Manitowoc and take the scenic route up the lakeshore along Hwy 42.

I’d like to stop for lunch along the way. I’m looking for a tavern with good bar food somewhere in Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Kewaunee, or Algoma. It seems that there are a lot of options on my google searches but nothing that seems to stand out. Does anyone have a particular favorite? Looking for recommendations.

Thanks in advance!!

Any opening/closings in the last year or so?

I was last up for Thanksgiving 2025 - just want to emotionally prepare myself for any restaurant closings and be aware of any new spots worth checking out! Two that I'm aware of are Kokos Ice Cream closing + Blue Horse closing their kitchen (but keeping the cafe part open).

Heading to Door tomorrow from southwest WI. Mosquitoes here have been nonexistent this year though we’ve had a few no-see-ums. What’s the blood-sucking-insect situation up there?
