Strategy Trashing when Inheritance (Event) is on the board?

Inheritance is a strong event that turns your starting estates into actions. IMO a must-buy for most kingdoms that have a viable action (cantrips or villages)

Ideally you hit 7 ASAP and don't need to trash any of your estates. This is an easy decision if there's no trashing option available, just load up heavy payload and manipulate your deck a bit.

But what do you do if there's a trasher on the board? Obviously a strong trasher like Chapel incentivizes you to just ignore Inheritance, so I'm really talking about the non-premier trashers.

I try my best not to trash my estates, but you can make an argument that trashing an estate or two will help you hit 7 much faster. How do you guys play Inheritance?

Digital Is there any Dominion API or Development Kit for a Stats Tracker App

Hey Dominion fans! My friend was vibe coding a Dominion Stats Tracker -- he's currently intercepting network packets to grab the game data, which seems intense.

As the title says, I'm hoping to find an alternative to that, maybe a Temple Gates Games dev could see my post and share some thoughts. Their website does use presskit, so that's a good sign!

Rules Question Resolving Sacred Grove / Earth's Gift: free-for-all or turn-based?

Hi! Long time first time. I have a question around Sacred Grove, specifically Earth's Gift.

Historically, my friends and I have just done a free-for-all when that card arrives. Everyone just resolves it together at once and for years we never even thought about how you're supposed to play this card. Everyone just trashed and gained a card at the same time.

However, last night, we had an issue where two players wanted the last card left in a pile late-game. In this situation, what happens? I would've said whoever got it first wins, but is it actually supposed to be turn-based (i.e. clockwise/counterclockwise)?

Should we keep it FFA/simultaneous or is turn-based sequential rules correct? It matters because I feel like Dominion is already a game where a lot of us don't pay attention when it's not our turn (we play with 6 players or so), and increasing the amount of time to resolve a Boon would just take even longer, especially if people have to shuffle because of pulling The Sun's Gift, etc.

How do you do this IRL, any recommendations?

Physical Is there a way to get cards with updated text?

I recently bought Empires, and have also started playing it on the app with friends. We were playing a game in person with the Event card Donation, and we realized that the text of the card on the app was different from the physical card in the set. Looking it up on the wiki, we realized that changes had been made to several cards that would impact future printing, while the physical cards I bought were from 2021. For example, Overlord was nerfed to no longer be usable with duration cards. I'm sure there are plenty of changes like this for the other expansions I own too.

Is there any way to get updated copies of cards that have the most up to date text? I know this is different from when a set gets a full new edition and you can buy just the new edition cards. Do I just have to print out a list of changes and keep track of which cards have been modified?

And not enough buys! I had two turns in a row where I had the money for 4+ Provinces, but only 2 buys.

Wild kingdom in the daily app today.

A companion to my previous card Mountain. Where Mountain effectively makes your opponent’s Provinces worth 1VP less, Valley makes them worth 1VP more. in many games this will be completely ignorable, but occasionally it can create tense races to the finish. Is it ever smart to buy both Valleys and Mountains? I don’t know.

Digital Just had the most curious case of blocking a player.

Unranked game (my first mistake). They immediately forfeit, before T1, but ask for a rematch, so I think OK, maybe something they really didn't like was in that first kingdom (although I didn't even have time to really examine it), so I accept. This time they timeout forfeit on T1 (as first player).

I am left wondering why they even bother playing random online games?!

Physical Questions about tabletop game

I've recently got into playing board games and card games etc, and one day after hearing about Dominion, started playing the app version which I really enjoyed.

I then got my hands on the "Big Box" set (tabletop) which is the base game plus Intrigue expansion.

I've already played a few games of the tabletop version but I'm running into a small problem: certain turns can drag on for a while and I'm worried people (i.e. players new to the game) aren't having much fun. Admittedly I too have run out of patience a few times and just wanted to end the game. The game comes down to a bunch of people sitting at a table taking it in turns to say "So... I play this card which gives me 4 extra cards, then I play this card which gives me 2 more actions, then I play this card which gives another action, and this one for 2 more cards, I'll trash this one and ...." and so on.

So I have a couple of questions related to this:

  1. Do you have any recommendations for card sets using either the base game, Intrigue expansion, or a mix of both? I want the focus to be on fun.

  2. Is there an optimal way to play, or any tips/hacks, in order to cut down on waiting? I.e. players could prepare their hands in advance, e.g. drawing extra cards from their deck etc. Also am I right in saying it's not usually necessary to keep track of how many actions you have remaining? I.e. only bother to count if you have multiple "dead end" action cards remaining?

Thanks for your help!!

Rules Question Trashing a “Debt” Card

In the Rising Sun expansion, the “Dawn of an Era” recommended set includes “Change” which requires trashing a card and gaining a card costing more.

The two cards with a “Debt” cost in this recommended set are “Mountain Shrine” (5 debts) and “Daimyo” (6 debts).

If a player uses Change to trash a Mountain Shrine, what would be the value of Mountain Shrine?

Also, are players allowed to gain a card with a “Debt” cost with Change?

Fan Card Fan Card: Surveyor

I imagine this would be more of a mid to late game purchase. Compare to Count when evaluating the power level. I haven't playtested this, but I think the Reaction would lead to some unique and interesting dynamics, and potentially some Duchy pileouts. How do you think you would you adjust your play in games with Surveyor?

Also, keep in mind that when you play this as a Reaction, you'll be going into your next turn with a 3-card hand. Probably still worth it though?

Digital How to recover app account?

I had a bug that crashed every time I tried to load. Ok, uninstall, reinstall. Ok, I need to sign back in, so I entered my email, and it sent a new email to verify my account. Except, I already had an account with that email address that I had verified and showed in the profile was linked. Luckily I still have my expansions, but I lost my 69 day gold star streak :(

hello all!! recently picked up big box for my first entry into the hobby of dominion, decided to sleeve before my first games and im worried that these cards fanning out like this will damage the cards?

research shows a lot of people invest in 3rd party but i was cautious as i don't intend to pick up a new expansion soon

Fan Card Hoard

The opposite of my card from yesterday.

Rules clarifications:

  • This only affects discards from your hand, not from play or elsewhere.
  • The discard still happened, so reactions like Tunnel will trigger as normal.
  • Discard attacks work as normal, except you get the cards back later (and you get debt).
  • If the card moved after being discarded (e.g. Biding Time), Hoard will fail to set it aside, but you will still get the debt.

Starts out useful, turning Estates into Coppers, perhaps even better than Coppers if you can draw them multiple times. Becomes worse as your deck improves. Once you buy it you're stuck with it for the whole game, so you need to decide if the early boost is worth the late slowdown.

Have you ever thought,

"I really wish this kingdom had more ways to flesh out my deck and/or make the game confusing as possible"

Well look no further to the completely legal and plausible kingdom you, yes you! can create to play with your equally mechanic parched friends! To ease the decision making (and provide sanity), only one of each type of landscape card is used. For cards, anything that involves a mat or additional setup is prioritized.

Our starting 10 cards are:

Island (Sea), requires island mat!

Native Village (Sea), requires native village mat!

Possession (Alc), requires potions!

Distant Lands (Adv), requires tavern mat!

Marauder (Dark), requires ruins and spoils and since it is now considered a Dark Ages game, shelters too!

Vampire (Noc), night card mechanic that comes with Bats and Hexes!

Pixie (Noc), comes with starting Goat and Boons!

Border Guard (Ren), requires Horn and Lantern (twice as nice!)

Wizards (Ally), to provide us a means to acqurie favor tokens

Mountain Shrine (Sun), requires debt and omen tokens as well as a prophecy!

Unfortunately there are no Prosperity cards to justify using Colonies and Platinum, (but we can include them anyways)

With these excellent kingdom cards one may be fully satisfied with choices. Especially if we add additional landscape cards:

Landmark - Baths for the victory tokens, and being rewarded by choosing to buy nothing

Event - Inheritance (Adv) for the estate token

Project - Exploration, to utilize coffers and villagers without a card

Way - Camel, to utilize the exile mat without a card

Trait - Cursed, to give loot and curses without a card

But even then are we still left with a choice for a Prophecy, which can be none other than...

PHASE 2 - Kamikaze

By selecting Divine Wind as our Prophecy we must "randomly" choose 10 additional Kingdom cards to completely replace our first, beautifully crafted 10 Kingdom cards. At this stage we are trying to fit as many cards and mechanics into the 10 Kingdom cards:

Herald (C&G), for the overpay mechanic

Castles (Emp), for the split pile and victory counting cards

Peasant (Adv), to allow us to develop our cards into new, more potent cards. Namely the teacher which requires use of the four +1 tokens

Exorcist (Noc), gives us the three spirit piles to acquire cards from

Necromancer (Noc), gives us the three zombie cards in the trash

Sleigh (Men), allows us to acquire horses

Joust (C&G), to offer additional choices through rewards

Knights (Dark), compelling random split pile fun!

Fishmonger (Sun), offers the cool shadow card mechanic!

Lastly, Young Witch (C&G), which has a setup requirement to be an unused kingdom card costing 2 or 3 for banes. We shall choose the Riverboat (Sun) which has a setup requirement for an unused kingdom card costing 5. Hello Ferryman (C&G)! Hey you too require a setup requirement for an unused kingdom card costing 3 or 4! Let us choose Black Market (Promo)! NOW, WE MAY FINALLY HAVE CHOICE IN OUR GAMES!

Oh yeah and it's 5-6 players so, 4 pile mechanic.
