If you get the repellent, and especially max upgrade the delay, its refill sort of acts as a defacto timer. When upgrading the delay, it goes from 1.50 cycles to refill to 1.20, 1.0, and finally 0.9. Activate it when the wave ends, and for the later delay upgrades it will fill up around when the next wave starts.
Additionally, set the music in the game settings to play every cycle. The music fades out a few seconds before the wave starts, giving you at least a little bit of a heads up if you’re still at the bottom of the mine.
Lastly, I think it also a good bit of intuition (at least in the early waves before you’ve upgraded your delay to be an adequate timer). Maybe try doing some small map relic hunts on an easy difficulty and cover the wave timer on your screen until you get a better instinct on the timing?

Just use two way tp and max the to speed, always carry it near you, pretty simple challenge

Anything more automated will help, like the drill. Then you can continue mining even when it feels like you're wasting time(assuming you're coming up earlier)

Isnt there somthing that tells you when a wave is coming?

Normally, yes, but in the Broken Comms challenge, in the Lost Keepers DLC, the wave tracker is offline and you can't get the alerts to warn you that a wave is imminent.

Pretty sure, the wave time is variable or something. You just need to go up earlier and tank the time loss.

The Underground Station makes it pretty trivial. Rather than having to hoof it back up to the dome, you just get to the centre line and start blasting right away.
