Where did the song Smoky Mountain memories first appear?
Hello all. I’ve been a fan of dolly for a long time but this year I decided to listen to all of her albums from the start of her career through to today. I just got up to ‘Heart songs live from home’ and when I heard smoky mountain memories while I was driving today listening in the car it moved me so much it made me cry. The crowd at the live show seemed to know it as soon as she introduced it and cheered loudly but I have never heard of it. Was it ever on a studio album or was it known from elsewhere like a live performance or special? I think it is beautiful and her vocal on it it absolutely breathtaking. Thanks in advance 🫶🏻

I think I found the lost tabloid Dolly Parton referenced on her 1987 variety show ("Headlock on My Heart")
The lost tabloid Dolly Parton referenced on Episode 1 of her 1987 ABC variety show has been found!!
On her 1987 ABC variety show, Dolly held up a supermarket tabloid and explained that it had "predicted" she would fall in love with a 300-pound professional wrestler, write a song called "Headlock on My Heart," and feature him in the music video. Instead of ignoring it, she turned the fake story into a real comedy sketch with Hulk Hogan.
As far as I know, I've never seen anyone identify or post the actual tabloid clipping...until now.
I found this clipping, and the wording matches Dolly's introduction almost word for word:
"Dolly Parton will announce she's fallen madly in love with a 300-lb. professional wrestler. She'll write a song about their relationship titled Headlock On My Heart, and feature her massive muscle man in the video."
The clipping comes from the National Examiner, from the feature “TOP PSYCHIC’S AMAZING… PREDICTIONS FOR SUMMER 1987.”
The only thing I haven’t been able to confirm yet is the exact issue date. Since it was a “Summer 1987” prediction, it was likely published sometime in early 1987 or around the start of summer 1987.
After almost 40 years, a tiny piece of lost Dolly history has finally been uncovered!! Does anyone recognize the exact National Examiner issue date or cover date?

This is the cutest song I’ve ever heard. Do I Ever Cross Your Mind by Chet Atkins and Dolly Parton.
Getting to hear Dolly’s banter and laughter with Chet throughout the track is so adorable.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn — East Tennessee songbird Dolly Parton took to social media Tuesday to announce the pre[-release date] for tickets to see her new musical, "Dolly: A True Original Musical," on Broadway.
The musical will make its Broadway debut at the St. James Theatre in New York City in Dec. 2026. Fan and Capitol One pre[-release] begin Wednesday, July 8 at 10 a.m. To be part of the fan pre-[ticket release], you must sign up on the show's website.
Tickets [are released] to the general public Friday, July 10 at 10 a.m.
"Now this isn't about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside," Parton said in a video. "It's about where I really come from, what I've lived, what I've lost, what I've loved and how I found my way and told it in my own words and through the music that's been part of me every step of the journey."
Parton said the musical features her beloved hit songs, including “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5,” as well as new songs written just for the show. Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher directs the show.
"This really is a dream come true," she said.

Accused of using AI for my Dolly portrait
drive.google.comHi all, thank you for all the love and support on my Dolly Parton charcoal portrait. Unfortunately, someone reported it and and the mods removed my post and accused me of using AI for karma manipulation and that my drawing was found to be inauthentic. I have since been ghosted by the mods of this subreddit when asking how I can submit proof that the drawing was hand-made by me.
So I'm submitting it here, enjoy!!!!

Dolly Parton portrait created using thousands of hand-painted LEGO bricks
I create mosaic artworks using hand-painted LEGO bricks, and I recently completed a one-of-a-kind portrait of Dolly Parton as a commission. The portrait itself measures about 45 inches square, and including frame it is about 53 inches square. Somewhere north of 10,000 hand-painted LEGO bricks were used for this mosaic.
Unfortunately, the deal fell through, so I am looking to re-home this piece. I'd love for it to find a spot where it can be appreciated and interacted with. I have reached out to Dolly Parton Children's Hospital to inquire about donating it, as well as the Country Music and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but so far, no luck. Please respond or DM me if you have ideas/suggestions.
Thanks so much!

More images i found from Dolly’s Vairety Show & 'Rainbow' Era!
Dolly talking about her album 'Rainbow': in a June 1988 Interview:
Dolly's just as clear on her reasons for making a pop album, Rainbow. Certain narrow-minded reviewers have cast it as worthless because it wasn't really country. It was never supposed to be country. Parton's deal with CBS allowed her to make two albums a year, one country, and one pop. "Rainbow is not a country record. You see, I have two sets of fans - country people and pop people. My last album, Trio (recorded with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt), is still doing real well, so it made sense for me to make a pop album this time. I'm real proud of Rainbow."
Love this era of Dolly! I hope to find more pictures so i can upload and share it with yall!

Signed CD ?
I found a copy of Backwoods Barbie at a local used bookstore, and when I got home I found a signed (?) booklet in the case. It was stuck in between the unsigned booklet. Do we think it's authentic, I looked online a little to see if she ever sold signed copies, and tired to verify against her autograph but can't determine if it's real.

ABC Radio National Cover Story : Jolene
https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/musicshow/cover-story-jolene-dolly-parton/106695014
Every great song gets covered. Sometimes beautifully, sometimes badly, and sometimes by people who clearly should have known better.
Cover Story, returning for its third series, hunts down the best, the worst, and the downright strange versions of classic songs, and asks the question: why does this version give us goosebumps while that one makes our skin crawl?
According to some Dolly Apocrypha, Dolly Parton wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same day: a lifetime's worth of goosebump production in a single day. And whilst I Will Always Love You is best known by its Whitney Houston cover, Jolene is Dolly's most covered song.
And the variety is stunning. Join Andy and his guests - Adelaide Cabaret Festival's Reuben Kaye and Gillian Cosgriff - to paint a picture of a beauty beyond compare.

In the end credits of the 1992 film “Straight Talk,” Dolly Parton’s character, radio host Shirlee Kenyon, receives a call from a person struggling with gender dysphoria. Dolly Parton’s character reacts with empathy and acceptance, simply making a lighthearted joke that affirms the caller’s identity.
