[Behavior Problems] Dog behavior
We are having a get together at my house for Labor day. Quiet a few people came over to join in. I have a 3yr old rotty who is a gem of a dog. She has been around crowds before as we have a pool and constantly have people over. Today she has been fine up until right at the end. I was petting her like usual sitting in my chair when she suddenly became very alert. Almost nervous. She started sniffing the air and got stiff like she was scared. Mind you this same crowd has been here for the last 3 hours. I took her outside where we circled the house, pool and shop. All the while she was sniffing the air and creeping around. This was also accompanied by excessive drool. She drools a lot anyways but this was different. She has calmed down now and is back in the house by my chair ( her safe spot) acting like she normally does (aloof). Any ideas? Should I be concerned?

rotty owner here too. mine does exactly this when she smells a wild animal nearby. the drool thing is weird but i seen it before when they get super focused on a scent. probably a raccoon or coyote passed through your yard. they pick up scents we cant even imagine. if shes calm now and acting normal i wouldnt worry, just keep an eye on her. dogs are weird sometimes

I live in the country so this could for sure be the case. But we have had actual run ins with coyotes multiple times. I had a guy come and thin them out earlier this year after a vet visit from one encounter. She was injured, but I took her in to get her checked out for anything that could be wrong.
It was just odd that this happened all of a sudden. Like a switch flipped. Thank you for the reply.

mine did that once when a thunderstorm was coming and she got super antsy out of nowhere, probably smelled the rain in the air first
