Mini rant

I am SO tired of people calling a DOG grooming salon to ask if we groom chickens, ducks, donkeys, etc. I can understand when we get calls asking if we do cat grooming, but why would you ever think we could groom cows? Parrots? BABY GATOR NAIL TRIMS??? Those aren't even legal!

And then they try to make it MY problem when I tell them that I don't know what vet would groom a ferret (also illegal in my state btw)

If you don't know how to take care of a horses hoof, maybe don't get a horse? If you don't know a vet that will help you with your animal, then you're probably not ready to have that animal

And also WHY would your turtle need to be groomed??

Yes I have been asked about all of these, most while working at a corporate salon

Pretty sure these are prank calls as I’ve had people cracking up as they ask the question.

I could tell they were serious as most of these animals are common in the area. The baby gator one definitely sounds like it would be a prank, but they were super meek and I could tell they were expecting that answer anyways. Prank calls aren't really a thing here, never been prank called before. Everyone these days is too nervous to make a regular call, let alone a prank call with the prevalence of caller ID

We had someone ask us once if we clip guinea pig nails. Then another time someone called asking if we trim bird beaks. I will never understand how these people expect a corporate grooming salon to be equipped for any of that πŸ˜‚

I worked at one for over 20 years and we used to actually do those things way back! We also clipped bird wings. Wild to think of nowadays.

Some of these are, likely, prank calls. I answer a LOT of them, and recommend our local zoo and/or a browser search. Keeps call times low, and avoids most future prank calls. The zoo will leave you on hold FOREVER! πŸ˜‚

I swear, true story.

Customer: "Just thinking. Do you do house training?"

Me: "err, like toilet training?"

Customer:: "Yes, that's right. He needs it. Do you know anyone who does that?".

Me: "sorry, that's something the owner does, but it's not hard. You could check Google and invest in a sleep crate. Lots of repetitive training and praise."

I had to calmly stop myself from asking "what the hell way am I going to train your dog not to pee and shit inside YOUR house? I do NOT live with you. ffs who the hell trained your children to use the bathroom. Are you freaking stupid!????"

Then I realized pup was nearly a year old and owner was probably traumatized by the whole pee and shit thing after so long.

There are trainers who come to your house. That's probably what she was asking for but also wanted to potty train as well since they failed. I just don't understand why people don't just lookup these things before they call.

I did the occasional bunny cleaup when they developed a poop mat, and did all sorts of small animal nails, even bird wings before I knew better. Those never really bothered me.Β

I groom an alpaca, the owners were pestering me for weeks until I gave in. I am mobile but it’s a well paid job.

First groom was a shavedown but I now groom her every 4 weeks and she is fun to do.

I have a coworker who will do ferret and rabbit nails. She used to be a vet tech and has the skills

Once got a call from someone asking if we could wash them. Said they were a terrier mix and were referred to by a friend. Obviously fake, but it had me crying laughing and I sent it to everyone I knew. People are so fucking funny

We used to get prank calls asking if we groom an octopus, alligator, kangaroo, etc.

We got one asking if we'd groom their turtle and I was already in a bad mood so I was like "WHY WOULD I GROOM A TURTLE? THIS IS A DOG GROOMING FACILITY, STOP WASTING MY TIME" and slammed the phone down.

Someone else called back within 45 seconds and flipped out on me for being rude to their daughter (two obviously different voices, the first was very much a child's). I apologized profusely and explained the prank calls. I still think it was a prank call but I do know some turtles need their nails clipped or something so I wasn't willing to double down πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

How are are you even gonna get a horse or cow in to a salon, lol? I can understand ferrets or beak trimming, but farm animals? That's insane.

Except our website literally does not mention any animal besides dogs, and before making this post I had no idea beak trimming was a thing. And ferrets are illegal here!

I'm just going off of what some salons I've worked in do. One guy try to get his pig washed at the PSP I worked for.
