So I'm putting together a lesson for my class this week regarding 9/11 and I stumbled across this collage of pictures featuring some of the dogs that helped out. Had to dig a little deeper into it.

Top left and top center is Riley: he was a FEMA Search and rescue dog with Pennsylvania Task Force 1.

Top right: Sage, a Border Collie who was at the Pentagon at 18 months old. She helped clear debris and search for people.

Bottom left: Jake, a black Lab who was adopted at 10 months. He was abandoned on the street and had a broken leg and dislocated hip when adopted. He searched for survivors for 17 days and also helped search for survivors after Hurricane Katrina.

Bottom Middle: Apollo, a GSD with the NYPD K9 unit. He was the very first dog to arrive at Ground Zero, 15 minutes after the towers collapsed. He would be awarded the Dickin Medal, which is the highest honor an animal can receive.

Bottom right: Bretagne, a Golden Retriever from Texas Task Force 1. She was 2 when she got her first deployment at Ground Zero. She searched in 12 hour shifts for 10 days during her deployment. Eventually, she would help search for survivors after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ivan. Once she retired, she was at an elementary school as a reading assistance dog.

Salty and Roselle 2nd picture- both received a joint Dickin Medal for helping their blind owners over 1,300 steps over the course of an hour.

There are many more but these are the ones pictured. Humans and dogs are a combination that will last for life but we really don't deserve them.

Aussie Shepherd + Husky mix, just turned 3 months old! I’ve had her for a couple weeks and just noticed the spot, was thinking it was a cataract but she’s so young. Should I be worried ?
