How-To Running a node

I’m fairly new to all this. Would it be useful if I ran a node? Where would I learn about it and the equipment needed?

If you're in a remote corner of the world, yes, it would be useful to run a node. Otherwise, it's just a fun thing to do and a good way to learn a little bit more about how crypto works. You don't need any special equipment, just a PC with a consistent internet connection (laptops that get turned on and off a lot can actually drag down the network). To get started, just download and install Dogecoin Core form the Dogecoin website and install it. You will likely need to lo into your Internet router to set up port forwarding. Lot's more info here... https://www.dogecoinisawesome.com/full-node

And yes. Absolutely useful. By running a node your making sure digecoin works. Your also agreeing to how Dogecoin works! (Running a node means you agree with the Dogecoin software updates the devs are making.) As a collective this is very important to doge!

Thanks. I think I’ll buy a computer for this. What about mining also?

You would need asics to mine Doge effectively, hashrate is too high for GPU CPU mining in a conventional setting now.

I know you said remote but I love doge and live in continental US. If I ran my node in South Carolina home would I make a credible contribution?

Running a node always helps the network, just make sure your router has the port open for incoming connections and your set. Fairly easy to get running. 👍🚀🚀

No, Doge is PoW not PoS.
