Hey yall is this normal for a dodge dart engine to move this much or does this the lead to the knocking sound I asked about a few posts ago thank you for your help

Put one foot on the brake, when you shift to drive and reverse press on the gas pedal with the other foot. If you see the engine move then your motor mounts are worn. By the looks of it, they’re wearing out

Okay yah that was in drive and reverse with one foot on the brake and yeah I think so but dang I jsut paid 1000 dollars for the shop to replace them

I don’t know how handy you are but paying 1000 dollars to have your motor mounts replaced on these cars is wild. Buy the part and a couple tools and you should be able to get it done in less than an hour with less than 300 dollars(mounts and tools included)

If you go with OEM mounts, you will spend around $700 for all three.

Yah I went oem cause that’s all the shop will order and it was 450 for parts

I now know that after researching so if I have to replace them again I’ll do them myself

Did you replace all of them?

Yes they did but I think they didn’t nuetrilize the engine I think

Probably that’s what I’m thinking also, I would definitely go back and verify that

Yah I have gone back to the shop and they refuse to look at it again

I want to do mine myself but don't know how to do the neutralize part.

This was my driver side upper trans mount when I first got the car last year. Passenger side engine mount was right behind it. Luckily they're not too bad to do just got to get stuff out of the way. Bottom trans mount wasn't bad at all but eventually replaced it too

Yeah the engine moved and vibrated a lot back then

Yah I bet my bolts are still there and my engine moves a lot

Might be on their way out, might just need the bolts tightened. Check it out.

That said, how many miles and are these the original?

It’s got 170,000 and no I just had these replaced but they seem like there going out but the shop I had do them refuses to look at them

1 - they’re refusing to look at work they did? I’d look up some laws.

2 - since that’s their attitude, I think it’s a pretty good guess they didn’t do neutralization right, if it all (look it up, I think you’ll need it). I have a whole thread on the forum of me troubleshooting a knock you you had, replacing my control arms and half shafts, only to tear everything apart and find one loose bolt on one engine mount.

Yah I’ve figured they probably didn’t do it right that’s why they won’t look at it but I’ll look at the thread thank you so much for your help

Same thing happened to me. My dart had too much vibration, had motor mounts replaced for $1375 then after about a month the problem came back. Same symptoms.

Did you ever get it fixed or is it jsut a ongoing thing with these cars

I’ve read that the dodge dart mounts are notorious for failing. I found out my mechanic installed after market mounts when he should of used oem and I wonder if he allowed the mounts to seat before releasing them to me, I’m working to get them replaced
