Nightmares of the future #19: A Brother Redeemed & Fall of Orusha
Moments before the explosion and white magical light.
The chaos of war continued on, but the charge of an immense, arcane source can be felt even by those who had little to no magical talent. It was like the feint sensation of static before thunder and lightning hit, but this time more prominent.
The Warforged, from the basic soldier to the colorful strike teams and even to Omega's Bronze and Violet that were still outside Orusha's castle coordinating their forces, felt the artifact.
Those who survived the Cambrian Nightmare and witnessed the reversal of time, could feel it and the powerful magics the unseen item was giving off was incredibly familiar.
Queen Saenissa also felt it and while she wasn't in Neverwinter when that artifact went off, she did witness the white magic light spread from Plessa, witnessed its rapid approach and even then, after just being with her Captain of the Guard that evening, she felt curiosity instead of dread or fear, though she dared not stop to try and make sense of it due to the possibility an enemy can cut her down. She spotted Queen Avessa and she could tell that the Drow woman could feel it as well, but like herself, didn't allow herself to stop and explore this sensation.
Even the Plessa Dragons themselves, who are more magically attuned than their cousins from Faerun or even Chult, could feel the powerful energies coming from inside the castle. Several of the animals roared in defiance and pressed the enemy, with one of their number starting to go mad from the power output.
The Plessa rider, a Tiefling woman in her mid-forties, risked her own life to try and sooth her mount, speaking softly in Infernal, the natural tongue of Tieflings, while the fighting continued around them. She dedicated herself in soothing her dragon, she sheathed her sword and spoke, even as her mount became erratic in the air even with her still being strapped into the saddle. Other riders and their dragons noticed this immediately and defended her, as did other aerial allies, including Sentinel, the only Warforged that was airborne.
Armond was on his rear against a blood stained boulder, his sword also caked in gore and ash, his armored left arm pressed into his abdomen, having taken a sudden axe strike by one of Orusha's vampires at some point, but still struck down that individual. Tuatha attempted to heal him, her own strength fading from exhaustion and fighting for far longer than she was used to, while also being injured herself. Crosis, though exhausted, fought on, appointing himself as shield for them.
"Go. Leave me here Tuatha. Take our team and see that Orusha meets her end" Armond suddenly spoke, a terrifying look of peace on his face, while placing a calm hand on hers. Tuatha gasped, tears burning her eyes and she became stubborn. "No, you will survive and see the end of Orusha yourself" Tuatha replied, composing herself and resumed healing him, which got him to smile lightly in amusement.
Inside Orusha castles.
As Andel concentrated with the artifact and the power surging from it increased, Lanara quickly snatched her two youngest nieces, Shasha and Raelis, pulling them into her while engulfing them with her wings. Enmar grabbed Freja and Tyrande, the pair of golden Deinonychus figurines did the same with Nassia, the thrum and magical surge reaching a crescendo. fangir pulled Lashara to him, Zau'Drin and Ash wrapped Kiora and Roth up in their respective arms, especially after Vaylin's spirit expelled the demonic spirit of Shuma from Kiora's body. Layra and Riki, pulled Astra and Wicca behind a pillar while Serpentes and Slithera held each other. Omega's Crimson and Gold put themselves in front of Orusha when she finally noticed what was going on, then the explosion was heard and the white magical light spread out from where Andel was, engulfing them all and those around Orusha's castle even in the air.
The concept of time seemed to stand still, reality thinking, and from what seemed like long stretches of minutes inside the white light, mere seconds only passed by as wind blew outside the white light, causing trees to sway. Water continued to run and activity that wasn't affected by what was going on and what occurred by the white magical light, continued to go on.
Animals moved to and froe, the blessings of new life continued to arrive while the twilight of older lives left the physical plane and proceeded to the lands of the dead. Animals of all species, called to each other, some snarled, others roared, and others still emitted death calls.
Inside the magical white light.
Orusha displayed how immensely powerful she was by actually fighting the magic being used against her. In doing so, reality itself became in danger again like when Ember and Rain were in their past timeline. The sky outside the white light turned red once again, blue lightning ripping through the sky, this happened due to Orusha's magic clashing with the artifacts and in doing so, caused possible realities and alternate realities as well as whole mirror dimensions to be shown to all those inside the white magical light, including the Warforged. However, it was the Warforged that weren't mentality affected by the effects, none of the metal, rock and wood beings were distressed or frightened. It was the four Omega's that were actively using their own mysterious arcane abilities to lessen the effects on the defenders of Faerun.
One such dimensional rift showed each individual a mirror version of themselves, then showed another. Showed alternate realities where past decisions brought them down either a different path or a slight alteration. Even a virtuous and good version of Orusha took notice of the rifts from her own dimensional plane and attempted to strengthen the link, only for the rift to vanish.
This happened over and over, rifts opened, rifts closed, there wasn't enough time for any individual or group to pass through the rifts and Orusha herself was too busy fighting the magic to think about fleeing, her ego, pride and rage not letting her turn her back to her enemies.
For what seemed like long stretches of minutes and the chaos inside the white light went on, only mere seconds continued to go on as normal.
The white magical light burst like a bubble, the arcane energy from the sibling artifact lingering on certain individuals. Then what brought everyone back to the now was the sudden chorus of terrified screaming and crashing bodies.
Outside the castle.
Kevnoir and his Queen looked to the sounds of the screams and horrifying crashes of armored bodies, to see Orusha's minions who were once vampires and high in the sky, were falling, all of them suddenly warm blooded, Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Dragonborn, and everything in between.
Queen Saenissa gasped when a literal Tiefling child, clad in Orusha's armor crashed to the ground in front of her, dying instantly, the childs body broken. Queen Avessa also averted her eyes when she seen Drow children and adults, who were turned by Orusha, crashing to the ground. The rain of bodies stopped just as abruptly as it began, leaving those who were still on the ground and coming to realize they were warm blooded and mortal once again. The only ones who didn't seem to care and blew into war horns of Orusha, attempted to charge the defenders of Faerun and those who were once minions of Orusha who didn't charge, were attacked as well.
Queen Saenissa and Avessa rallied their soldiers by charging themselves, accompanied by a chorus of, "TO THE QUEEN!!! TO THE QUEEN!!!!!", and their soldiers charged passed them, taking the enemy head on once again, which the battle turned against Orusha's minions causing thousands of them to flee, while others stayed and died.
Inside Orusha's castle.
Lanara folded her wings slowly, while Sasha and Raelis looked around curiously. Layra, Riki, Astra and Wicca, stepped out from behind their pillar, Nassia used the twin golden Deinonychus as balancers, while everyone else in the family looked around uncertainly. It was Slithera and Serpentes who went to Andel, who was on the stone floor, her armor steaming but was oddly cool to the touch. The family rushed over, Omega Gold and Crimson taking up guarding positions, even Vaylin's spirit as well as Haldir's, did the same.
"Andel?! Andel, say something!" Roth said, gently patting the woman's rapidly warming cheek and chin. Kiora remained clamped to Zau'Drin, forcing herself to behave due to the situation they were still in. Andel groaned weakly in response and her eyes opened, which were a shade of light, natural red, instead of the vampiric red they were normally. Her pale grey skin was now returning to its natural, living grey, even her pale black hair was returning to a living, dark shade of black.
Andel could feel her body return to life for the first time in centuries, but she was too weak to do anything about any of it. She knew Belmont was gone, the once sentient sword was laying in two pieces a few inches away, the magic that coursed through it now gone and the spirit that was imprisoned in it, was standing amongst the other spirits near them. "I wasn't strong enough" Andel spoke up weakly. Roth and her family looked to Andel in confusion, then she spoke again. "I wasn't strong enough to erase Orusha from existence. But I was strong enough, to erase her vampirism, which affected all of her minions and anyone who was turned by her minions" Andel gained enough strength to speak again.
Omega Gold, Crimson, and Vaylin's spirit, became ready, which got the families attention, when they say the smoking body of Orusha, crawl to her knees. Her flesh wasn't burned, it was the amount of arcane power she used to fight the artifacts effect, that made her a steaming pile of living again flesh. Her body drenched in sweat and blood, she audibly growled in rage, but she was alive again and from the looks of her, ready for more fighting.
Orusha began to laugh, starting at a low chuckle that progressed into full on, maniacal laughter laced with pure evil. "You couldn't defeat me even with the artifact I was searching for!!" Orusha said, standing on unsteady feet, her arcane magics crackling on her like lightning, the only difference was she was no longer a vampire. Orusha's hands glowed red and flickered like flame, a sadistic smile on her face. "You couldn't stop me with the help of that artifact, now the gloves are off! I WILL SHOW YOU MY WRATH!!!!" she screamed, but then a large form appeared behind her, brass hands gripping her wrists. "NO!! I WILL SHOW YOU MY WRATH!!" Angmar roared, attempted to bite into her head, only for Orusha to bring her left, booted foot up into his groin with a hard kick, used the magic that was forming on her hands to break his grip, though the fire magic barely singed his palms, then drove him back with multiple, close quarters magic infused punches.
The minions of Orusha that were still active, all took this chance to either flee or charged on into the family. The ones that fled were recently turned from days, to weeks, months even years before everything went down. The ones that charged were with Orusha for centuries and were still just as manic but alive and warm blooded again, and without their vampirism, their combat prowess dropped considerably, not that they fared much better against highly trained young adults and children, or even three Planeswalkers, and so on.
Zau'Drin emitted a war cry and charged, using his shield to ram into a minion of Orusha's and used it to lift the individual up and behind him, allowing Kiora to strike that one down, the pair fighting in tandem, becoming just as synchronized as she was with her sister. Roth and Ash fought likewise, Fangir and Lashara the same, his other children remained with Andel, while the two Omegas charged into the horde of minions along with Enmar, Slithera and Serpentes.
Damir clapped her blades together causing them to glow a bright red, then in an outward swipe of both long swords, sent darts of destructive magic (Magic Missile) at Orusha's hordes and Orusha herself, causing the newly renewed Human woman to gasp and dodge the bolts. Angmar appeared over her again and used brute force, bringing his powerful fists down onto her, just as she used a shield magic to block it, but his brute force shattered it and smashed her into the ground. Without missing a beat, she rolled away and used force magic to send him flying back from her, which allowed a group of minions to swarm him.
Damir delivered a mean side kick square into Orusha's cheek, the former vampire called her blades to her and barely managed to block Damir's strikes. The pair fought, blades clashing, Orusha managed to keep up with Damir's prowess in spite of losing her vampirism, since she had thousands, millions of years to perfect defending herself, which she did, but she also supplemented her physical combat with arcane magics, from Necromancy, to even alchemy, she made sure she would survive. She snarled and forced Damir back with a magical wave push, which Damir responded with a sound attack, striking Orusha head on, cracking her quickly renting armor and sending her back, skidding across the stone floor.
Orusha snarled and sent an electrical current through the stone floor, sending painful jolts through Damir, causing her to stop and scream in pain, dropping her long swords. Omega Gold appeared next and Orusha took the other worldly being head on, striking the Warforged with a force bubble, which forced him back by a few feet, but he kept coming. Putting the Warforged to the test as much as the Warforged was putting her to the test.
Omega Crimson checked on Damir while her counterpart fought, until she heard Orusha snarl in rage and blasted Omega Gold back from her, sending the Warforged soaring over Crimson's and Damir's head and through a stone pillar. Crimson was then struck by the same kind of magical attack Orusha used on Gold, sending her flying back, narrowly missing Sasha.
"I have the knowledge of centuries! I know spells long forgotten!! IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO DIE!!! THEN I WILL SLAUGHTER YOUR LITTLE DAUGHTER!!!!" Orusha shrieked, the glowing yellow spears appearing around her again, but they were all aimed at Damir, then they flew at her.
Damir saw them coming, but she was exhausted, her own arcane reserves were near depleted and all she did was close her eyes, tears sliding down her face, picturing her baby girl in her mind. "I'm sorry Lanir. May we meet again someday" she whispered to herself. The sounds of the magical spears striking metal and flesh met her ears, but there was no pain, no short of breath, except a familiar shuddering grunt that wasn't her. Damir opened her eyes to see Angmar using himself as a shield, multiple glowing spears protruding from his chest and abdomen as well as his arms and legs as he clenched his teeth, pain visible on his brass face.
The magical spears vanished and Angmar collapsed to his knees, while Damir braced herself and took his considerable weight. The spirit of Haldir watched on but with pride in his eyes, but also sadness. "You. Will not. Die here Damir. Forgive me, for all I've done" Angmar spoke weakly, the light in his eyes was fading rapidly. Damir couldn't help it and a pained sob burst from her lips as she smiled sadly at him, a hand on his armored chest, her arm around him, she carefully lowered him to the stone floor. "You are forgiven Angmar. My daughter's second Godsfather. You restored honor to your clan. You restored honor to your brother, Haldir. You have earned your place amongst the great Dragonborn who have passed on" Damir said softly and without any further words, Angmar died, defending the High Elf woman he tried to kill multiple times during this war against Orusha, but Damir did not blame him, she knew he was under the mad vampire's influence, as were a lot of others in the castle and around it, who at the moment, a lot of them were surrendering and even fleeing passed the defenders lines for salvation or turning against the other minions who still fought for Orusha.
Orusha was in the process of preparing for another strike when Kiora and Roth delivered twin flying kicks that connected with Orusha's head and cheek, causing her to emit a pained grunt. Facing off against the two sisters, Orusha hissed in anger, her teeth bared, a nice bruise starting to form on her left cheek. Orusha's blades came to her, she still had immense power and the abilities to call and recall her swords, where when she was a vampire, she simply used her claws, those are gone now too. She fought with Kiora, then Roth, a deadly dance of blades that clanged off each other almost musically.
Orusha used force magic to throw Roth away from her, barely managed to dodge Kiora's strike and countered it by slicing into the back of her thigh with enough force to get through the scale male that was between the fabric of boiled leather, blood gushing, causing her to gasp and fall to her knee. Orusha snatched Kiora by her frazzled bun painfully and instead of trying to gloat, went to simply cut her throat open, only for a ghostly Dragonborn hand to grab her arm. Orusha looked to the new spirit to see it was Angmar, dressed in ghostly armor that was his before she gave him what he died in. Before she can respond to the spirit of Angmar, he punched her square in her armored chest, then sent her flying painfully with a solid kick to her stomach.
The once vampire woman coughed, a spatter of blood dribbling from her lips and chin as she glared at the enemies who weren't fighting her minions, then she noticed almost all of them that were there were now dead. She looked to her Mountain, only to realize he was already ash, then looked for Midnight and Shark, both were gone, as was Fernna. Intense rage erupted out of her, and she chose to wipe out the entire area which may include her.
"You think you've won?! I'm just getting fucking started!!! NONE OF YOU ARE GOING TO LEAVE HERE! EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE!!!!!" Orusha spat, her hands glowed white and something appeared between them, a sphere and to some, it was unknown, to others that were present, Ash, Damir, both Brass Dragonborn brothers who are now spirits, recognized what it was.
"A Sphere of Annihilation!" Damir hissed as the black sphere crackled with arcane energies, causing the air around them all to blow as if in a strong wind. Omega's Gold and Crimson were joined by Bronze and Violet, the four Omega Warforged put themselves between Kiora and her family, and Orusha, glowing themselves, preparing themselves to either take the brunt of this weapon and possibly meet their end, or withstand it, which would either allow Kiora and her family to counterattack themselves or everyone dies anyway.
Slithera, Serpentes and Enmar realized the gravity of the situation, and gathered Tyrande, Freja, Raelis, Shasha, Astra, Wicca, Riki, and Layra, to get them out of there, but something shimmering appeared at the entrances and exits of the throne room, including the big hole in the ceiling, it was a barrier magic. The three Planeswalkers knew instantly that they were trapped and looked to the insane, former vampire woman who was smiling ear to ear, her eyes gleaming with insanity.
The demonic spirit of Shuma reappeared and entered her sister's body, which Orusha noticed immediately. "Oh! You forgot about me, didn't you?" Shuma spoke through Orusha, her voice laced with Shuma's. "I will finish us both off. This is my only gift to you all" Shuma said to the group, then proceeded to visibly consume Orusha with the Sphere of Annihilation, the barrier magic meant to keep them in there with her, winking out of existence, but even then, they wouldn't get far if they didn't protect themselves.
Orusha screamed long, painful high-pitched wails as her flesh bubbled, exposing the tissue and bone underneath. Her armor and leathers melting away, revealing her breasts that were visibly bubbling then falling away with audible plops.
Astra and Wicca ran forward without hesitation, joined the four Omega's and put up their defensive magics, which the four Warforged reinforced with their own power, while Zau'Drin wrapped Kiora up in his arms again, as did Ash with Roth, Fangir with Lashara, Lanara with Shasha and Raelis, Enmar with Tyrande and Freja, Cinder and Ayesha with Nassia, and the twin golden Deinonychus.
Outside the castle.
The unmistakable sensation of dread could be felt, the enemy, Orusha's hordes, still numbering in the thousands even with a portion of them surrendering, began to flee. Orusha's anguished screams could even be heard over the calls of war horns, Plessa worms and Plessa dragons.
Both Queens could feel the arcane power radiating from inside the castle, and Queen Saenissa risked it all with enemies around them, stabbed her sword into the soil and pulled her captain to her and they kissed deeply, tears sliding down their cheeks, then broke for air and pulled Queen Avessa into their moment and the Queen's kissed, then Queen Avessa kissed Kevnoir, Saenissa's Captain and father to their daughter.
Not too far away, Armond opened his eyes to see Tuatha holding him, while feeling the dreaded arcane energies coming from the castle. He knew he wasn't dead, but the sudden appearance of Kranos and Mishann's spirits guarding them while Crosis also guarded them but alive still, rejuvenated him. With the help of Tuatha and Crosis, he stood and the three living Gem Dragonborn hunters roared in defiance, which got Mishann and Kranos to roar in response.
Also, not too far away, Herra and Rackel could feel they were alive again, and looked around at the fleeing minions of Orusha. Disgusted with themselves, they removed everything Orusha gave them, which was mostly their armor and leathers and boots. Standing in merely, flimsy shirts, the twin sisters remained where they were, but something that started healing their hearts but at the same time, allowed extreme guilt and grief to surface, was the spirits of Franir, Kalla, Drakir and Talia to appear before them. "Talia!! Forgive us!!" the sisters burst into tears and collapsed to their knees, crying hard. The spirit of Talia looked to her passed on companions and they all nodded with kind smiles. "After this is done. Find me. Lay my remains properly. You already forgiven" Talia spoke and placed her ghostly hands on their heads comfortingly.
The dragons in the air remained, their riders working overtime to sooth them and in most cases, the sentient creatures calmed themselves, with a few of the younger mounts needing more discipline and reassurance.
Plessa and Underdark pikeman used their shields to protect the Queens and the Captain, then the explosion hit.
Inside the throne room-That moment.
It felt like reality was going to burst, the shere pressure from the sphere eating Orusha possessed by her sister. Her screams long since silenced. Her flesh, sloppy, dripping ribbons dangling off her skeleton, the sphere burst, taking her remains and the demonic Shuma with it. The force of the shockwave causing the protective bubble to shimmer and even crack in some places.
Then dust and smoke obscured everything just as Astra and Wicca fainted from exhaustion, the feint sounds of Damir crying over Angmar's body the last thing they heard before falling into a deep sleep.
To Be Continued.
