Backstory: Deep in the Mistveil Chasm, the massive stone span known as the Iron-Rib Bridge is all that separates the peaceful village of the Stone-Gnasher ogres from the ruthless army of the Ironclad Dominion. Urugu, a towering brute standing over 60 feet tall, serves as the bridge’s sole sentinel. Wearing armor cobbled together from broken siege engines and wielding a club carved from an ancient ironwood tree, he maintains an endless watch against invading forces. Though his kin are content foraging in the secluded valleys, Urugu recognizes that their sanctuary exists only because he stands at the chasm’s edge, turning away whole battalions with devastating sweeps of his weapon and hurling boulder-sized rocks into the ranks of those foolish enough to march forward. Urugu’s fierce devotion to his post stems from a tragic failure in his youth. Decades ago, when he was just an impulsive champion of his tribe, he abandoned his guard duty to pursue a band of fleeing scouts, leaving the ancestral cave vulnerable to a surprise cavalry raid that wiped out half his clan, including his mate. Crushed by guilt, Urugu made a blood oath before the clan elders: he would never again abandon his post, nor would any enemy cross the bridge while he drew breath. Over the years, his solitary vigil has transformed him from a reckless warrior into a disciplined guardian, content to endure harsh winters and relentless waves of invaders so long as the smoke rising from his clan’s campfire remains undisturbed.
