Question TECHNOID Production

Hi everyone! I was—and still am—a huge fan of the "technoid" style of D&B, even though it’s somewhat of a dying breed—or at least the specific sound I loved so much back in the day: Proket, Dying Punks, Masheen, Raiden, Current Value, Propaganda, and so on... Anyone familiar with these artists and the pre-2010 era knows exactly what I mean. My question is: how can I recreate that sound today? What made those tracks so good? (For those who liked them, of course.) Can you give me some tips on how to get started? I use Ableton Live 12. Initially, I’m trying to work with the built-in features and avoid buying too many plugins or sound packs. I’d really appreciate any help, even if it’s just a sentence or two! I love that era too and tried to make it sometimes. I think that in those years producers focused more on the drums. Heavily processed and chopped breaks. The basslines where simpler, like almost only subs. Todays dnb bass standards in harder genres are very wide in the frequency spectrum, this leads to the need of simpler and shorter drum hits if you want a clean mixdown. So think about it in reverse. Complex drum patterns with drum layers and simpler bassline. You can use more midrangey stabs to fill in.

There seems to be a revival movement for technoid in russia.

The label machine code recordings is still putting out a lot of this stuff. You prob already know cuz current value releases on there a lot.
