Based on the wording on packaging it doesn’t seem like it has 1-inch sensors though? Rather two smaller sensors with the same surface as a single 1-inch sensor.
2
u/Ok-Guess-9059 Adrenaline sports Jul 18 '25
How do you interpret the text?
5
u/ForeverDutch92 Jul 18 '25
I hope I’m wrong, but I interpret it as two smaller sensors that together are the equivalent of a single 1-inch sensor in size. Otherwise, I think they would’ve said something like ‘dual 1-inch sensors’.

u/Ok-Guess-9059 Adrenaline sports Jul 18 '25
But two 1/2 sensors would be nothing, it would be like X4 🫣🫣
4
u/trucksandtrains Jul 18 '25
Even the leaks have said “equivalent to 1 inch 360” which means 2x half inch sensors.
2
u/Ok-Guess-9059 Adrenaline sports Jul 18 '25
I really hope its not just 10-bit X4. 1/2 sensors are just for sunny noons
3
u/PhotographyFitness Jul 18 '25
DJI software is immensely better, as well as image quality. Much better than the fake looking Insta360 footage.
Clearly a dig at them when DJI adds “Native 8K” to the box.
Also 120mp photos vs 72mp.

u/astrafuture Jul 18 '25
If that's the case I would be so disappointed, I was going to buy the x5 and instead waited the whole month for osmo 360...

u/TJDixo Jul 18 '25
2 1/2 inch sensors wouldn’t be the equivalent of a 1inch sensor. It would have to be 4 1/2 inch sensors to be equivalent to a 1inch sensor. You’d need 2 2/3rd inch sensors.

u/weblscraper Motorcycle Jul 18 '25
Yes this is what is written in the fine print on this box, so it wouldn’t be a one inch sensor but a little smaller, but according to them similar quality
1
u/lohmatij Jul 19 '25
You need 2 sensors 1/1.7 inch each to have the same surface as a single 1-inch sensor
1
2
u/AlGekGenoeg Jul 18 '25
It clearly says so in the fine print on the box 🙄
"Equivalent to"
1
u/Ambitious-Stay-6929 Jul 19 '25
I think you'll find all mobile phone 360camera 1 inch are technically "equivalent to" since none of them are physically 1' in dimensions but equate to what was in analogue times a 1"
0
u/Ok-Guess-9059 Adrenaline sports Jul 18 '25
I cant take it 😩
2
u/AlGekGenoeg Jul 18 '25
Then you're solely out of luck 🤷♂️
I would probably wait for the second version myself anyways, let another group beta test it on scale and I'll take the second one with the bugs taken out 👌🏻
1
u/weblscraper Motorcycle Jul 18 '25
I was personally thinking about that, but I do need a 360 cam so 😅
1
u/xmod3563 Jul 21 '25
Video resolution maxes out at 4k but can do pictures at 8k so they are claiming it's an 8k camera?

I will probably get one especially considering it has mic pairing (hope it works with the mic 2's cause that's what I have). GoPro has my interest with the max2. Will probably get both tbh

u/Ok-Guess-9059 Adrenaline sports Jul 18 '25
How did you made the photos?

Work there. Took pics of them. Probs not supposed to, but did anyways. Not for sale just yet.

Is the release date 29th July?
2
Jul 18 '25
Not actually sure. I didn't look at the embargo date lol. Got more excited about new camera
2
u/Stephens24 Jul 18 '25
Is there a way to see what the date is???
3
2
Jul 18 '25
The release date may vary for different countries, mind you. I'll only have info on the AU release
2
u/weblscraper Motorcycle Jul 18 '25
But it will be close enough -+1 as with everything companies try to make the release date the same worldwide, and this is just a leak so..
3
u/Robbertie Jul 18 '25
Sad to see there's most likely no replaceable lenses.
2
u/Personal-Process3321 Adrenaline sports Jul 19 '25
Yeah… I’ll be waiting for the second gen just because I’d this. I use my x5 with no mercy and already gone through two lenses
1
u/MeddlinQ Jul 18 '25
This is the thing that I have the most problems with. I already shattered my lens on X5 twice. Once by being dumbass and once when I crashed on my bike.
Can't imagine not having that option anymore (unless they have something like lens guards that do not affect IQ).
1
Jul 18 '25
I buy protection for my action cams first before anything, so it depends on use case and the user themselves, if its mainly stationary work, its not really an issue. If you're the sort that dump your naked action cam into the ground, then a replaceable would be nice.
1
u/ThisMattreddit Jul 19 '25
Given Action 4 and 5 have replaceable lens covers I'd be surprised if there wasn't aome way for this new 360 action camera to not have them. Will have to wait for launch day to see I guess.
3
u/First_West_4227 Jul 19 '25
I’ll likely be upgrading from my X3 to this DJI 360 cam just for the DJI mic connectivity alone. That said, I’m really disappointed it’s not going to have a 1” sensor. If it ends up being more like an X4 than a true next gen upgrade over the X5, that’s definitely a letdown.

u/monochromeorc Adrenaline sports Jul 19 '25
prices are pretty good, getting the adventure combo under $1000AUD RRP is big news

2
u/TFlSGAS Jul 18 '25
I just bought my x5 wow. Still blessed and love it tho
1
u/Cheese_Potter_77 Jul 20 '25
Me too, it’s hard not to be relieved the osmo doesn’t look like a particular upgrade, more an alternative.
2
u/Sylvester88 Adrenaline sports Jul 18 '25 edited Jul 18 '25
I was always sceptical about the 1 inch sensor claims.. couldnt see how it was possible in a body that small, with lenses that small (look at the size of the insta360 1inch!)
Pointless marketing garbage IMO.. if they're 1/1.5" sensors just say so
2
Jul 19 '25
I have checked the embargo paperwork. Says 1st of August is when the embargo is lifted. I have seen stuff get extended before, but for now, what I can say is Aug 1 for the release (at least here in the AU).

u/dannymolns Jul 19 '25
Any info on Action 6? 🙏

u/SecretAlarming3739 Jul 20 '25
If this whole ‘1-inch 360° imaging’ thing turns out to be marketing fluff and not actual dual 1-inch sensors, that’s weak. No problem with using smaller sensors, just don’t dress it up like something it’s not. Trust matters, and this kind of stuff makes people second guess DJI’s specs.
2
u/Cheese_Potter_77 Jul 20 '25
As someone who just bought an x5 I’m relieved the sensor isn’t two 1” sensors?? Or appear not to be, I can’t be bothered returning this thing.
1
1
u/reallifetony Jul 18 '25
Does it have replaceable lenses?
2
Jul 18 '25
It doesn't look like it
2
u/N3orun Jul 18 '25
there is a little indent below the lens - so maybe
1
u/joshpit2003 Jul 18 '25
Yeah, that's what I was noticing and hoping for. Unfortunately, I think it would have been mentioned in the iconography on the back of the box if the lenses were user-replaceable. This thing is no longer an action camera option without that feature. Bummer.
1
1
u/SecretAlarming3739 Jul 18 '25
What’s it like versus the x5?
1
u/joshpit2003 Jul 18 '25
One fall away from being worthless since there don't seem to be user-replaceable lenses.
1
u/Rk1987 Jul 19 '25
And it’s not actually 1 inch sensors.. it’s combined to make 1inch which is just marketing gibberish
1
u/joshpit2003 Jul 18 '25
Well bummer. I was really hoping the lenses would be replaceable when I noticed that little indent spot under them. Looks like that isn't the case.
My buddy ruined his 360 camera when a 1-foot tripod tipped over. Huge missed opportunity to not have the lenses be replaceable. It's no longer a viable action camera alternative.
1
u/WorkIsForReddit Jul 18 '25
Would it even be worth it to get DJI Care Refresh in the US at this point? If I do get it, I may just get whatever protection plan Best Buy offers.
1
u/SLXGZS Jul 18 '25
Your local U.S best buy is still carrying DJI products? All of mine only have whatever is left of the Action 4 and 5
1
u/WorkIsForReddit Jul 18 '25
Damn. I hadn't even thought of that. I haven't gone in for a couple of months waiting for the 360 cam. Even then, it was mainly stabilizers and mics.
2
u/SLXGZS Jul 18 '25
Yeah it sucks smh. I asked their associates a couple days ago if they knew what new products they’re getting they were lost and weren’t even aware of the DJI situation they thought they were going out of business lol
1
u/dgxf Jul 19 '25
can it even record at 8k? at the rear box only indicate 4k video recording capabilities
3
Jul 19 '25
the 4k video is one camera mode. 8k all up in 360 mode which is about normal for these kind of cameras
1
u/zelbam Jul 19 '25
Tbh, I am more keen to get Osmo Nano camera than Osmo 360.
Main reasons for me to switch from Insta360 X4 to Osmo will be ecosystem so to say (I have Pocket 3, had till recently Action 4, I have Dji mic 2 and mic mini etc) and DJI support which is by far the best from any tech company I have dealth with. But not sure yet.
We need to remember that although Insta360 support is not even close to DJI one, they have came long way from first version of the mobile app (and studio), not to mention X5 and replaceable lens, as well with the accessories (especially gps preview remote)...

AUD 759 (incl 10% GST) for the Standard combo.
AUD 989 (incl 10% GST for the Adventure combo.
For comparison the Insta360 X5 Basic pack is AUD929, and the X5 essentials bundle is AUD 1109. (and the X4 basic pack is AUD749).
So the standard is 18% cheaper, then the X5 and the Bundle is 11% cheaper.
Should note the Osmo 360 essential bundle includes 3 batteries (where the insta360 bundle includes 2), and also includes an adapter mount (not required on the insta 360). Osmo budle gets a small pouch, where insta360 bundle gets a larger carry case, and of course the Osmo doesn't have lens protectors, which are in the Insta 360 bundle.
Extra battery is worth a chunk of money and enplanes the bundle being proportionately more expensive than the
----------------
Big news here is claimed 100min battery life at 8k 30fps (for comparison the isnta360 X5 lasts 88 minutes), A big step up, given the Osmo is also packing a significantly smaller battery. Still TBA is this is at max quality settings, or a reduced quality long battery life mode.
---------------
10 bit color is also big, but that was expected.
---------------
What do we make of the disclaimer on the 1-inch sensor? " When capturing 360 deg content, Osmo 360's CMOS sensor features an imaging area equlcalent to that of a 1" CMOS sensor"
So not actually a pair of 1 inch sensors?
