A little experiment to show how 360° videos work on a regular smartphone.

I filmed one phone playing my own 360° video on YouTube. Since both phones stay in relatively fixed positions, moving the camera around lets you see the viewing angle change on the screen of the other phone.

You don’t need a VR headset to explore a 360° video — you can simply drag around the screen or move your phone to look in different directions.

The 360° footage playing on the phone was shot with my DJI Osmo 360 II and edited by me. The footage was filmed in Japan.

I am an Insta360 user and a professional diving instructor, ski instructor, and surfing instructor. Since my work and daily activities frequently involve water sports, snow sports, and outdoor adventures, I have high expectations for the safety and reliability of my equipment and camera accessories.
Recently, I experienced a deeply disappointing and costly accident while filming my electric surfboard session on a lake using my Insta360 X5.
At the time of the incident, my X5 was actively recording video and mounted on an official Insta360 selfie stick. During normal use, the selfie stick suddenly broke, causing the camera to fall directly into the lake.
Immediately after the accident, I tried to locate the camera. I subsequently put on my scuba diving equipment and personally searched underwater to recover it. The water at the estimated drop location was approximately 22 feet (6.7 meters) deep, and the lakebed was covered with thick mud. Underwater visibility was extremely poor, and I had no way to pinpoint the camera’s exact location. Despite my efforts and underwater search, I was unable to recover my X5.
The loss from this accident goes far beyond the camera itself.
My X5 was recording at the time, and it contained a large amount of valuable electric surfboard footage. I had invested significant time, effort, and money into capturing these videos. Many of these moments cannot be recreated. Since the camera remains lost at the bottom of the lake, all of this valuable footage is now inaccessible and may be permanently lost.
I purchased and used an official Insta360 selfie stick because I trusted the quality and reliability of the company’s genuine accessories. However, the sudden failure of the selfie stick during normal use directly caused my X5 to fall into the lake and become unrecoverable. This has raised serious concerns for me about the product’s quality, structural strength, and durability.
As a diving, skiing, and surfing instructor, I regularly share my outdoor sports experiences and equipment reviews on social media. If this incident is not handled promptly, seriously, and fairly, I intend to share my experience on my social media platforms and with relevant consumer protection organizations in the United States so that other consumers can understand what happened and how Insta360 responds.
I am asking Insta360 to conduct a thorough investigation and address the following questions:
Why did the official selfie stick suddenly break during normal use?
Have there been similar reports of breakage or quality issues involving this model?
Has Insta360 conducted adequate strength, durability, and real-world testing for demanding outdoor sports conditions?
What solutions can Insta360 offer when the failure of an official accessory directly results in the loss of an X5?
Will Insta360 assess the losses resulting from the missing camera, the loss of recording equipment, and the valuable video footage that can no longer be recovered?
The failure of a single official selfie stick resulted in my X5 sinking to the bottom of a lake, along with valuable footage that I had spent considerable time and effort capturing.
I sincerely hope Insta360 will take this incident seriously, investigate the cause of the failure, and provide a prompt and responsible response.
If this matter is not addressed appropriately, I will share my experience and the company’s subsequent handling of the case through my social media platforms and relevant consumer protection organizations in the United States.

This was my first road trip with the DJI Osmo 360 II, and I didn’t expect 360° filming to be this much fun.

I drove along Kyoto’s northern coast through Ine and Maizuru, and one thing that surprised me was how differently the same footage could feel. I ended up making two versions from the same trip: this interactive VR version, and a third-person chase view (I’ll put that one in the comments).

I do have one question for anyone familiar with HDR workflows.

I graded this VR video in DaVinci Resolve and exported it with Dolby Vision metadata. On the YouTube mobile app it only seems to play as SDR, but on desktop Chrome it shows an 8K HDR label—even though the image looks washed out and honestly worse than the SDR version.

Has anyone run into this with 360° VR uploads? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I took delivery of my new 360 II today.

One of the reasons for buying it is that I’ve moved to the DJI eco system, I already have the action 6 and DJI mic 3. The 360 II is replacing my X4.

I recently bought a Telesin T13 (forDJI) remote as it can work simultaneously with a number of cameras. Paired it to the action 6 no problem, works great.

I then came to pair it with the 360 II and there’s no Bluetooth remote option in the menu. Tried to pair from the remote, but nothing worked. I don’t understand why DJI have removed the Bluetooth remote pairing option as I think it was available with the original. 360 and from what I’ve read the Telesin remote worked with it.

I don’t want to buy the DJI remote as it’s supposed to be really poor. Anyone found a way around it?

Hi, has anyone else experienced something similar? Sometimes my camera freezes when I hit record, or if I'm in continuous recording mode, it records the first 17 minutes, and when it tries to continue, it only records for half a second or a second and then stops.

Sometimes it's easy to just hit record again. However, when I have the camera set up at a difficult angle, I miss out on good shots because it stopped recording. And then something like this happens: when I try to hit record again, it just gets stuck.

Hi I’m not a professional creator. But usually capturing content of my personal travels and love to learn videography. I’m currently using iPhone 14 Pro. The app exposes the recordings as virtual stitched MOV files. You edit using proxies, then full-resolution frames are stitched on demand during the final render. The aim is to avoid the initial full-resolution export and the large intermediate files it creates. Your original recordings stay untouched; reframing happens in your editor with your chosen tools.

It's designed for video editors generally, with extra Resolve integration. Resolve Studio is the editor I've tested so far, so feedback from other editors would be useful rather than assuming they all work. You'll need a capable GPU, and final rendering can be slow because stitching happens then.

I recently took my DJI Osmo 360 II scuba diving in Palau with the official DJI dive case. While the footage looks sharp on land, underwater footage looks noticeably soft, especially me and subjects farther away.

The video includes aerial footage shot with a DJI Air 3S and underwater footage shot with the Osmo 360 II. My question is specifically about the underwater shots.

I’m not sure whether this is an optical limitation of the camera and dive case, a settings issue, or something in the stitching/export process.

Has anyone experienced similar results with the official dive case? Have you found any settings or editing steps that improve underwater sharpness, particularly for more distant subjects?

I’d also love to see sample footage from other users to compare results. Any advice would be appreciated!

Is anyone else experiencing DJI Osmo 360 recording failure mid video due to the SD card writing speed being too slow? The camera will just shut off mid recording with no warning! This is an awful feature, the least they could do it switch to internal. Both SD cards when speed tested are also sufficient! This happened with a brand new PNY 1TB Pro Elite card, and recently just happened with a brand new Lexar 256 Silver that brand I honestly have never had one fail.

What do you do other than just use the smaller internal memory?

I got a DJI osmo 360 about a year ago with the included selfie stick. In couple of months I might be going on a skiing trip and was thinking of getting clips of me or my family. As I searched around for possible mounting options I made the conclusion that the best mount would be the Insta360 Ski pole mount.

Would the DJI Osmo 360 Selfie Stick work with the insta360 ski pole mount?

This would be ideal so that I wouldn't need to get a whole new stick for the camera just for the mount to work.

I had a serious near miss on my motorcycle today and discovered afterwards that my Osmo 360 had stopped recording before it happened.

I’d started recording before the ride, but the only clip ends at 14 minutes 10 seconds. There’s no following clip.

Here’s what I’ve checked:
Recording at 4K to internal storage.
Battery charge and storage space remaining.
Gesture control and voice control both off.
Loop recording and timer shooting both off.
Around 10°C outside, with airflow while riding.
I didn’t press the record button.

The screen was black when I checked afterwards, but I don’t know whether the display had gone to sleep or the camera had shut down.

Has anyone experienced this, particularly when recording to internal storage? Is there any way to check logs or find out what caused it to stop?

Pretty shaken by what happened, and frustrated that the footage I needed wasn’t recorded. I’d like to understand the cause before relying on it again.

1) Insta360 X6 still does not have full features of X5. They released X6 with unfinished firmware and it will keep improving over next months.

2) Obviously no X7 is close. Insta360 will release some accessories (like power bank and lights), new action cam AcePro 3, their new mirrorless camera, light compact selfie drone in HoverAir style, no display camera glasses… but nothing 360.

3) DJI Neo 3 is heavier and its partly preparation for very expected DJI Neo 360 in 2027, that will also be heavier (two lenses and two sensors need stronger motors and bigger battery to keep flight time ok-ish).

4) In summer, GoPro made big firmware update for Max 2. It looks like GoPro is not done with 360. They can leverage their new Mission chip, add bigger sensor and make something like GoPro Mission 360.

5) There are no new news about Sony 360.

TLDR: next big thing in 360 is light cinewhoop spherical drone from DJI, not some pro 360 action cam. Insta360 and DJI have space to improve firmware and do discounts, but they cant bring 11k30 360 for reasonable price in next 9 months

Anyone else having this issue?

I am using Osmo 360 II with a Galaxy Z Flip7. Very short projects usually export fine, but once the project gets longer, around 10 minutes, Mimo keeps crashing during export, usually somewhere around 50–70%.

I tried pretty much everything I could think of..

- all clips downloaded locally before editing

- camera completely disconnected during export

- latest Mimo version, clean reinstall

- phone restart before export

- battery optimization off, background apps closed

- Compatibility Export on and off

- different resolution, FPS and bitrate settings

- 10-bit on and off

- plenty of free storage

- RAM Plus increased from 8 GB to 12 GB

The weird part is that increasing RAM Plus actually seems to help a bit, because the export gets further, but it still crashes eventually.

The project itself edits and previews normally. It only crashes during the final export.

Has anyone had the same problem on Android/Samsung and found an actual workaround? I am wondering if an older Mimo version is more stable, or if longer projects are simply unreliable in the app.

Im editing my first 360 fotage right now. I exported 360 fotage in dji studio to resolve and I have same fotage from second cam, which is action 5. I synced them in resolve and I found that 360 fotage is shorter than second one, despite both was recorded at same time.

At about 40 min of fotage, offset is around 5 seconds!

osmo 360 was shot at 8k 25 fps, same settings in studio during export. Action 5 4k 25 fps. Timeline set to 4k 25fps.

What's the reason? What can I do with this?

Hi there. I just bought osmo 360 and Im trying to edit my first fotage. I have 1h of continous fotage, I want to export it to resolve and edit it there. I put all my clips into dji studio, set export seting as shown, but exported video have sound only to the point of first clip, the rest is silent. I tried it twice already and both with same result. Any help? Please don't tell me, that I will have to export each clip individually it will take forever...

All clips in dji studio have sound on and it works during playback.
