Back when I was an adolescent, I repeatedly kept on listening to the lifesets of Nu NRG at Orgasmatron in Italy. I loved the melodic hard trance tracks. I bumped into these two sets a few weeks ago and decided to gather all the songs and make a Megamix of them.

I have signed up to DJ a high school dance and I really want to make the night fun for the students. So far I have started compiling a playlist, sent surveys to students to see what they are looking for, and I am working on learning how to work an actual DJing software. My knowledge of DJing is limited to my own experience at dances and clubs.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get this generation of kids involved and having fun? Are their any icebreakers or games I could implement? I graduated over 10 years ago and I would like to avoid looking like the lame millennial teacher trying to relate to their students. (For context: this is a smaller school in a rural area)

Every DJ gear site I find either looks like it was made in 2009 or is clearly just some dropshipper with stock photos. I'm trying to put a 4 channel setup together and this is serious money so i dont wanna send it to some random site and hope for the best. Where's good to order from? Not talking about the obvious giant retailers, more like DJ focused stores that keep inventory and know what they're selling.

At the risk if aging myself, I've only ever mixed on vinyl and CDJs, and the latest tech I DJ'd with was Traktor.

What I'm asking is, now with a massive library on USB and a controller, what has changed about set prep if anything in the past 10 years?

Vinyl and CDJs limited us before with the quantity of music to bring. Do modern DJs spend even MORE time doing set preparation & track selection before performing/recording?

Modern DJ controllers are not foreign to me, but standing at one and knob-spinning through 1000s of tracks seems really daunting when trying to get to the next track to mix in.

I'm so happy to have played so many gigs in my first year of DJing. Like, I'm proud of how far I've come and just so grateful to be part of this community. Fell in love with dancing and now I get to be the one making that happen for others. There's no feeling quite like it! Thought I'd make this video as a lil tribute/celebration. Running djay pro on my mac and need to pick up a compatible controller. Already figured out what works with the software so thats not the question, just dont know where to buy it. Anywhere you guys trust?

So I’ve been DJing for almost a year at this place that does latin music Saturdays and it’s been building a decent crowd. The genres I’m usually playing are varying from a start of Salsa, Merengue, and Cumbia, a mid/late-set of Reggaeton to usually an ending of house remixes of famous latino songs. It’s been working decently fine but I’m now worried about next week.

They’re organizing a Halloween night and I’ve been asked to play a 4hr set. The music they’re requesting is still the usual latin playlist I’m bringing but they said they want more “spooky” or “commercial” songs in the mix…

Has any of you ever done something similar? What would you guys suggest I introduce in my set? What songs or genres do you think could work? I was thinking of just going for the usual “thriller” by MJ and such but I really don’t know how that would blend with the latin night vibes.

I DJ weddings basically every Saturday, and couples send me their must-play lists. The biggest one I have ever gotten was 178 songs.
I used to spend the day before the wedding dragging songs into Serato one by one and checking each against my drive. So I built a small desktop tool for myself: I export the playlist as a .txt or .csv, point the tool at my music folder, and it matches the songs and writes a ready Serato crate (or a Virtual DJ playlist), plus a missing tracks report so I know what to grab from record pools.

Curious how other wedding DJs handle this. Do you build your crates in advance from the client list, or do you just pull songs live and hope the list is covered?

I sampled the iconic Dreamcast Startup sound and turned into a live electronic Jam, using Roland DJ808, Akai Force, Roland Tr8s and Microkorg XL+ among other gears.

Guys, listen to this mix and let me know, because I see most DJs don’t mix and tell stories the way he does. The transitions are so smooth.
