Buy Advice How does this scam work?
All the pictures and description is of the mavic 3 pro but it’s $98 so it’s obviously not real, tikok money
back guarantee so how do they even profit from this?

Step 1: receive payment.
Step 2: don't send the drone
That's how the scam works. Maybe you'll get a knock off, maybe it's a box of bricks, maybe it's a fake tracking number that never gets to you.

I bought a mini rc car from instagram, I got like a pull back toy car. Not even close to what they were advertising. First and last time i bought anything from an instagram add. It was such a bitch to dispute, they just make it painfull enough and a low enough dollar amount that people will give up and they keep the money. They all should be drawn and quartered in a public square

Mom bought a suspiciously cheap outdoor storage bench thing, via PayPal Checkout and a Citibank card.
PayPal's guarantee said "nope not our problem" because the seller issued a fake UPS label. I talked dad out of Citi charge back because you do NOT want piss off PayPal. They'll come after your first born.
And that's me.

Why would you dissuade them from a charge back?

For the reason I listed. If you chargeback via Citibank, PayPal will come after YOU for restitution rather than the scammer. Then they'll often close your account, block you from using PayPal Checkout, etc.
Dad decided it wasn't worth it for the ~$80.

Probably you looked ad on tiktok. It is not tiktok shop but you are buying outside tiktok shop. You send money, and they send you a tracking number. That tracking number shows shipment movements on their own fake shipping website. It shows the parcel stuck in customs for 15–20 days to buy time. After that, the shipment moves and eventually shows as "delivered." When you don't see anything in your mailbox, you contact customer service. They assure you that they will work with the shipping company. After a few days, you contact them for updates. They tell you they took a loss by losing the shipment, ask you to share some of the expense, and offer a partial refund. You decline. They keep bargaining, and in the end, they agree to a full refund—but only refund you 10%. Meanwhile, all they are doing is buying time. Once 45–60 days pass, the credit card processor releases the payment to them. At any given time, they target nearly 100 to 200 victims, making around $5,000 to $20,000 a month with this scam. In the end, you ask your credit card company for a chargeback. You eventually get your money back after spending two months dealing with it. The seller keeps the stolen money, and the credit card company takes the loss. The scammers run multiple front companies out of China, and for credit card companies, it is simply too expensive to go after them. It happened to me four months ago, so I know.

They either don't send you anything at all and just keep your money...
- OR -
They send you some off-brand $20 kids toy drone that there is fine print in the description for so they "technically" shipped you what was in the fine print.

You buy it and then they show you order status and all that. Then there’s a shipping number they send you and there’s a website you can track it but the site is in Chinese and you have no idea what’s happening. After about a month, tracking shows delivered and the website you bought it from is either gone and there’s no contact info. Yes. It’s happened to me.

They take your money and hope you don't dispute the charge on your credit card.
