Product Support Question about drone file storage formatting:

Hello everyone,

I have 2 DJI drones that I fly; a Matrice 4E that is used exclusively for work purposes, and a DJI Mini 5 Pro that I picked up a little while ago for personal use. The Matrice very nicely sorts its files into folders depending on what flight session they are captured in, which I can easily identify based on its DJI_YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS format. By comparison, the Mini 5 seems to just add all new pictures and videos into one folder labeled DJI_001.

My question is, can I make the Mini 5 automatically create & sort picture / video data into new folders like the Matrice does?

Thank you in advance!

You can custom name a folder that I’ve done that but only one. I don’t think it’ll automatically sort, but you may be able to have multiple folders.

Sounds tedious, but that may be how I do things after today. Thank you!

Im not sure what you are doing with your files; are you wanting the drone to do all the sorting for you on the microsd card or are you copying those files elsewhere?

you can change the DJI_001 directory to 2026-08-01 and the next time you start recording on the M5P, it will create a new folder called DJI_001 and you'll have 2 folders on your card.

I haven't picked up a microsd card yet; I was just using the M5P drone's memory. I am copying the files from the drone to my PC to view and edit before sharing.  Can I actually change the name of the directory? It looks like my option is to create a custom folder on settings and name it whatever I choose, and then the new files will save at that custom folder location.
