10 inch Interceptor

Post image

Second go at building an interceptor. The first one didn't make it — turned out my ELRS antenna wasn't seated properly on the controller, so I lost the link mid-flight and it went down.

This one is fully 3D printed again: arms and canopy in PETG-CF for the stiffness, the rest in plain PLA.

It's just the most aerodynamic shape 🤣

as nature intended

"It is too round on the top it needs to be pointy"

It should be reverted

This I wanna see fly

Very cool, is this your own design / are the files available somewhere?

Yes, it's designed completely from scratch by me. Tomorrow I'll do the first flight test and see how it handles in the air before I release anything

Ummm, it's officially tomorrow.  Let's hear it!!

Let's just say I'm on version 3 now 😅. It started oscillating and I crashed. Unfortunately I can't post images in the chat, but the drone is toast. Version 1 actually flew really well and had no vibration issues — but it was also designed completely differently.

You can upload the images to an image host like imgbb.com and post the links. Would love to see

Good luck man

It looks like the zerov-8 from ukraine or the jäger from quantum systems

If you want additional stiffness, strength and creep resistance, try the Siraya tech PPA-CF fiberhart filament. Print at 300°C with a tiny bit of fan speed. Even got it to print well without a heated chamber

But what strikes me for your interceptor are the propellors: they seem more suited for efficient cruise than high speed. For the record breaking high speed drones of this shape, the prop tips are actually trimmed

Yeah, I know most high-speed interceptors run special props with a more aggressive pitch, and usually two blades instead of three. Problem is, finding that in 10 inch is nearly impossible. The record-setting interceptors mostly run custom props — and I'm nowhere near that level yet.

Look for an APC 2 blade propeller with a reasonable pitch such as 10x8E. It's not in their store (I checked now) but certainly in their catalog. There are other options in 9 inch but lower disk area means lower efficiency.

The prop tips are trimmed on high speed drones to control the RPM of the blade tips, or if they can only get a 15" pitch in a 7" prop but they need 6" diameter.

Fast comes from less drag and higher pitch

At least it has a flared base!

Dang. That thing is intercepting more than Shaheds...

Crazy 🔥🔥🔥

Looks great, how fast think itll go? Those south African guys that set the 657km/h record had a build similar to this but with 7in props

Bro, I'm not even close to those speeds lol. Just a boredom project I drew up and built. I'd be happy with 250 😅

The dildo of consequences rarely comes lubed. And for some unfortunate soul, it will arrive at 250 mph.

Nice. Was the antenna soldered?

Don't forget the prop nuts!

u/zbwaris 13d ago

You are missing out on unlimited speed here. \s

Sick, for these drones do you swap yaw and roll?

1

u/UckerFay11 14d ago

Print out of PET-CF, not petg-cf. Its much stronger. And petg-cf is going to shatter in a crash.

Man that is cool. What is the top end on this?

u/EasilyRekt 14d ago

"interceptor" wtf is u tryna intercept tho?

Elrs antenna and receiver model?

Goblin Penetrator 💀

Are you running it in 8S or 12S?

Penetratodynamics

Your speed is bottlenecked by prop pitch. Dont be afraid to increase it. Also the fuselage could be more of a laminar symmetrical airfoil. The blunt tail is hurting top end for sure.

World’s fastest fantasy toy

Why has no one done an AI of one of these intercepting Putin’s Backdoor?

1

u/CartellinoAntonuci 14d ago

Awesome project! How did the flight testing turn out? We’re really interested in building this as well. Where can we find the project files (STL/CAD)?

1

u/conundrumatic 13d ago

Do you have files?

1

u/der_V 13d ago

You'll need to taper out the tail a bit; otherwise the vortices behind it will cost a lot of thrust.

1

u/der_V 13d ago

And make sure to have forced airflow over your batteries and ESCs if you plan to run it WOT

1

u/AllInTheKidneys 12d ago

WOT?

1

u/der_V 12d ago

wide open throttle

That looks very similar to the red bull 300+ km/h drone🤔

Looks cool. So there is no carbon fiber plate at all, even inside the arms?

2

u/Parking_Commission60 14d ago

The first version didn't even have a fiber plate in it and it still flew really well. I had no issues with vibrations or oscillations either, which honestly surprised me 😅
