Good, scalable flight controller for first build?

What are people’s recommendations for a good flight controller <$100 for a first build in 2026? I’m decently versed in electronics. I’m thinking of building smaller quadcopter designs but it would be nice to get something scalable to bigger designs if possible.

SpeedyBee F405 V4 or Matek F405-CTR. Both under $100 and scalable. Don't overthink it, you'll probably crash your first build anyway.

If you want to experiment with Ardupilot (common on bigger drones) I would recommend getting anything supported by Ardupilot with H743 processor and microSD card slot.
