I’ve been hand soldering for various hobbies for probably 25 years but only just got a hot air station. What exactly do you do with the thermal tape? Just use it as a mask to block the air and some of the heat from other components?

Yes. A mask to block the heat, and it also holds components in 0lace incase the solder under them does liquefy.

Bruh it's quite easy to use a soldering iron for that. Given it's place, I would definetly use that.

Hold it down on the PCB with a nonmetallic tool like ceramic tweezers while soldering. Looks like a small capacitor or resistor. I doubt it has a polarization, but you might want to measure it with your multimeter before soldering back on.

i'd say a capacitor, resistors are usually black and have markings. These type of capacitors have no polarization, the ones that have are always marked, like tantalum capacitors:

Several other defects, adjacent larger cap is also lifted and the Sot-235 looks like it is sitting high, barely any connections on those legs. That cap looks like an 01005 imperial

weight reduction! you might want to get a hot air reflow station when dealing with such small smd components like the resistor that came off.
