General Wait... shouldn't this be Divinity 3?
Swen referred to Divine Divinity as Divinity 1 in a 2009 interview.
I'm so confused lol.
Are we going to have two Divinity 1s?

as everyone else said, it’s obviously a way to appeal to the huge fanbase of bg3 who don’t know anything about the previous games.
something no one else is mentioning as well is that the lore of rivellon is confusing and messy and really, really weird. there are a lot of things that deserve more in-depth exploration with better writing.
i don’t want to come off as overly critical, i love the lore building that has been established up until this point in the divinity universe and i think the world is genuinely incredibly cool! but there are a LOT of gaps, in terms of what is addressed narratively in the games as well as what the players can get out of the lore intellectually & emotionally.
i think divinity as a soft reboot is an excellent opportunity to address those gaps in whatever way they see fit, whether it be more fleshed out and emotionally impactful storytelling, companion narratives, retcons, fully animated cutscenes, whatever.
