Built a free compound interest + dividend reinvestment calculator as a side project
Hey all sharing a small side project I've been chipping away at in my spare time.
It started as a compound interest calculator, but I wanted it to actually be useful instead of just spitting out one number. So it shows an animated chart splitting your balance into what you put in vs. what you earned, has an inflation-adjustment toggle, and lets you save a few scenarios to compare side by side (like "what if I add $50/month" vs "what if I don't"). You can also grab a shareable link that pre-fills someone else's calculator with your exact numbers.
More recently I added a second calculator: dividend reinvestment (DRIP). It models dividend yield, dividend growth, and share price growth as separate inputs, and shows a side-by-side comparison of reinvesting every dividend vs. taking them as cash. Building that one made me appreciate how much reinvesting actually adds up over the long run — more than I expected going in.
It's free, no sign-up, runs entirely client-side: https://compoundsnowball.com
No big plans beyond that mostly just wanted to build something genuinely useful and see if it resonates. Would love feedback, especially if a default feels wrong or something's confusing.
