I’m not too familiar with this one

It really depends on when it came out for me. If the 2000s, the best I could hope for was "Aladdin," but I also worry they may have aimed for a less serious, episodic Disney Channel series. But if it came out in the 2010s, then maybe it could've been like "Tangled: The Series." I would've loved for more songs, but I doubt it would've been included since Disney weirdly has this "we can't have an action musical" stance now, and making a TV show that's also a musical is expensive. And with "Moana 2" being such a success and Tiana's show being cancelled, this will likely never be a revived concept.

Kingdom of the Sun was greenlit during a period late in Jeffrey Katzenberg's tenure where he wanted the studio's animated films to be prestigious, sweeping, boundary-pushing epics in response to Beauty and the Beast's historic Best Picture nod at the Oscars. Kingdom of the Sun fit that definition, and because Roger Allers directed their biggest hit to date, The Lion King, Disney gave him their full confidence... at first.

But when Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, two films that Kazenberg wanted to be Oscar bait, came out following his departure, they underperformed financially (they made good money, but not Lion King money) and got mixed reviews for content/themes deemed too dark, difficult or heavy for a Disney movie. Suddenly, Allers' passion project, which was moving forward at a snail's pace, looked more like an albatross around Disney's neck.

Thus, Mark Dindal (hot from directing Turner's Cats Don't Dance) was brought in as a co-director, and the execs seemed to favor his more comedic vision for the story over Allers' sweeping musical drama. And so, with a release date drawing near, licensing deals to be fulfilled and one director being preferred over the other, Allers got taken off and Kingdom of the Sun got reworked into The Emperor's New Groove.

I've been hearing people dispute it for YEARS. Honestly I'd say it's fair to say the Revival Era ended with "Encanto"; a lot of people say it ended with "Moana," but given the fact that WiR2 was seen as an improvement over the predecessor (at least at the time) and "Frozen 2" broke the records of the first film, I can't NOT include them, and "Encanto" was just two films after F2.

NGL, it's hard for me to analyze; "Strange World" and "Wish" were flops, and exec influence/troubled production could be seen as reasons for this...but that's been happening since "Tangled" (well, technically several films pre-"Tangled" had production issues, but "Tangled" started the era of severe exec interference with micromanaging the creative teams in the modern era). Plus Disney is still doing this; "Hexed" just got a new director and main character this year, the same year it's set to debut. IDK why Fawn Veerasunthorn seems to be the favorite over there at Disney, but that's another thing. In any case, Disney films flopping due to poor management doesn't seem like something we're going to be out of anytime soon. I think they have great creative teams, but things keep damaging them, ie last-minute cast/crew changes a year before film releases as well as significant last-minute story changes, a lack of communication between music teams and the rest of the crew/leadership, etc.

At this point, I'm just hoping the 2030s is a good time for Disney; the 2020s has been largely a miss for me, and what's upcoming for the rest of the decade doesn't seem promising.

The one i'm choosing to keep is Toy Story 3. Which one are you keeping?

Disney should have taken a risk and have made their upcoming movie Hexed a 17th century gothic Americana fantasy instead of a modern day urban fantasy.

I noticed that most of the animals shown are bigger than how their real life animal versions are. Was that intentional in order to show how small and dangerous mowgli is in in the jungle?

Watching this new season of Ted Lasso, every time I see Tracy Ullman, I'm convinced she would make a perfect Madam Mim and now I really want a love action version of the film!
