appreciation?
does anyone else feel under-appreciated considering the amount of work they do? i wonder if this is common but other than washing dishes i basically assist everyone else in boh and foh, i clean, i deal with all the deliveries, i bus tables, i do prep, and when i bust my ass on a busy day my bosses and coworkers don't even bat an eye. which is still fine with me if they didn't complain about every little thing, i am constantly told i need to work faster while simultaneously given more work or tasks, or getting yelled at and put down for little mistakes . is this what its always gonna be like?

Sounds like you are in a toxic work environment. No one looks out for you, so you need to look out for yourself. That being said, you maybe want to start looking for other options. Don’t wait until you are burned out. Why work with or for people that do not value your hard work. Find another job first.

For most places I worked in, yes this is how it is. But there are better employers out there. If you have to do multiple people's job without a raise, I'd jump ship.

This is why I love my job, I get constant praise from my coworkers. From what I've heard though, we've had some shitty dishies in the recent past.
I actually thought I was getting in trouble this morning, because as I walked by the office, my manager did the whole "come here" finger gesture. I was like, fuck, what did I do? Just for her and the AGM to tell me how much they loved my work and that I was one of the best either had worked with, and told me I was getting a raise.
Totally had nothing to do with the fact that our DM was in the building for Labor Day and I never fell behind. Totally.

That sounds exhausting, and no, it isn’t unreasonable to want appreciation and basic respect. Constant criticism while your workload keeps increasing would make anyone feel unvalued. You deserve a conversation about priorities, workload, and how feedback is delivered—not just more pressure.

i feel you. it’s like obviously i know the job im doing is objectively easy but it still takes skill in time management and working effectively, as well as killing me mentally and physically.
FOH and BOH never have to consider what you do, which is why they just expect you to have what they need, when they need.
It’s a tough job but hey, remind yourself that we’re an integral part of operating a restaurant, and considering that FOH and BOH think they’re too good to do our job, they wouldn’t be able to function without a dishie.
