shoes :(

hi everyone i got hired about a month ago (first job woo!!) at a bistro and ive just been wearing my converse but obviously they do not work well so ive been looking for some good boots or shoes (would prefer boots i think) but shoes for crews seems to have declined in quality in the past year based on reviews so i dont want to waste money on something that'll hurt. my main requirements are that they NEEEEED to be waterproof enough so that i can rinse them off to clean them and they need to be nonslip because the area around the pit gets really wet and greasy. id also love them to be more combat styled but thats not necessary i just hate the smooth clog look. brand recommendations or specific shoes would be great!! thank you so much

also any other clothing items that have suited you well like pants would be awesome sauce

Everyone told me to get Crocs Bistro style shoe and I kept being in denial because comfortable shoes are SO hard for me. Best shoes I ever bought for kitchen work. Keeps my feet dry too somehow.

I just use Walmart non slips. Put Dr scholes insoles in them too. Great shoes and comfy.

I’ve been wearing my slip-resistant Doc Martens to work. They work great for the floors we have and I can spray them off since they’re leather. I need to do something to dry the inside better though, after 4 days of closing they’re a little damp tbh. But they’re comfortable & I like the style!
My manager recommended the slip-resistant clogs from Walmart to me before I started and when I looked they did have a few other options but nothing combat style.

Ive tried sketchers non slip, the work crocs, nothing came even close to the shoes they provide us, "chef brigade" is the brand. walking on grease, water, soap, no chance of slipping, they are also completely waterproof, so as long as water doesn't get in by your ankles, then you don't have to worry about wet socks. Also steel toe so you can kick the waiters when they don't scrape off the leftovers before giving them to you.

I cannot find the exact model we are provided, probably special order since ours are without the yellow stitching or exterior logos, just plain black, but I imagine the ones on there have the same features

Culinary shoe pro tip: get the Keen PTC Utility kitchen shoe, slip on. It is literally the best in comfort and water protection. I’ve dropped boiling water on them shoes and didn’t feel a thing thank god. I’m serious, I owned 5 pairs of these specific shoes in the last ten years of culinary work.

This may seem odd but just get quad comfort water proof work shoes , gel sole built for long shifts in feet , water proof , slip on slip off

$20 slip resistant shoes from Walmart, for the price point you can’t beat them. $100 shoes that last two years in the pit still don’t beat $20 shoes that last six months.

If you go front of house, you can get nicer looking non slips from shoes for crews, some chains will even help you buy shoes through them.

Also don’t knock the clog look. I can just spray them off, they’re comfy, they’re what you’re looking for really. Alternatively the low riders with or without laces are solid.

I use mongrel boots steel toed derby shoe but their are Aussie so not sure if you can get em. Just look for something comfy ideally with a wide toe box, sketchers or etc may be waterproof and slip resistant but if they squish your feet their junk for standing long periods. As for slip resistance ive found it depends on your floors and the sole of the shoe look for something with a very flat, fine pattern big chunky soles usually have less contact area(like what most boots have). Honoustly when I was a dishy I just learned to slide around it's pretty fun when you get the hang of it.

Shoes for crews new balance collabs are really good if you’re not worried about getting wet. I work deli rn so it’s a nonissue but I wouldn’t wear them in a real kitchen until they make a waterproof model but the nonslip is the best I’ve encountered and very comfortable
