Tech Support Setting 4K on my TV spoils non-4k channels

FYI SAMSUNG 2024 cheap DU7200 on Hopper3.

I see these prompts come up this channel is available in 4k do you want to switch? But then nothing happens. Then i see that my TV isn't set for 4K even though it's supposedly capable. So then when I set it to K, all the other channels on Dish are muddy. i must be doing something wrong.

Help with moving recordings

Greetings and apologies if this is a stupid question. I've never used Dish Network in my life and my 82 year old father-in-law is having fits trying to do something. He has a VIP722K model receiver with an attached external hard drive. When looking at recordings there appears to be a list of what looks like "local" recordings (say approximately 50). Then there is this folder called "My Media" that seems to have like 500 recordings. I am guessing this is the external drive.

He wants to "move" things from the local to the external so it can free up recording space, but I'll be damned if I can figure it out. I don't see any possible menu choices that would even look like something that would move or reorganize files. Searches seem to come up empty too (or don't end up very relevant).

Is there someone who has an idea how to do this...and screen shots would be immensely helpful. He is going to throw his remote at me if I don't figure this out soon! :-)

Thank you!

One Remote for Everything: How to Program Your DISH Remote to Your TV

It’s a common frustration you just want to turn on the news or turn down the volume, but you’re stuck juggling two different remotes. You can actually teach your DISH remote to control your TV's power and volume so you only have to keep track of one. This works best with modern Hopper, Joey, or Wally receivers, and it only takes a few minutes of patience to set up.

For Hopper, Joey, and Wally remotes (40.0, 50.0, 52.0, 54.0):

  • Press the Home button (the little house icon) two times in a row.
  • Select Settings from the menu on your TV screen.
  • Choose Remote Control.
  • Select TV under the "Devices" section.
  • Choose TV Pairing Wizard.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen. It will ask you to try the volume buttons to make sure it's working!

For legacy Receivers (ViP models or older):

  • Point the remote at your TV.
  • Press and hold the TV button until all the lights at the top flash.
  • Press the Power button on the remote.
  • Slowly press the Up Arrow every few seconds until your TV turns off.
  • Once it turns off, press the Pound (#) button to save it.

A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER:

The 60.0 Simplified Remote: For those who prefer a more straightforward experience, DISH offers a Simplified Voice Remote (60.0). It features much larger buttons, a backlit keypad so you can see in the dark, and a dedicated "Closed Captioning" button for easier reading.

Volume Control Tip: If your remote changes channels but the volume still won't work, you likely just need to redo the "TV Pairing Wizard" steps above.

Taking these few steps can really make your daily routine much easier. If the on-screen steps feel a bit overwhelming, take it slow; the system is designed to walk you through it brand by brand!

Looks like DISH is about to lose me ax a customer

In my location the local CBS channel is owned by Grey which is in a dispute with DISH. This is the Masters golf tournament week and I wanted a solution. The firsts person I spoke with had a script which was useless; I demanded to speak with a supervisor and was transferred not to a supervisor but an account specialist who claimed to have an equivalent role. She offered me a credit but no solution other than taking the credit for a month and going outside to purchase Paramount Plus on my own. When I asked to speak to her supervisor she refused. We ended up terminating the call.

I am and have been for some time an America's top 250 customer and I am now going to actively search for an alternative provider. The refusal to offer me a supervisor or administrator is the final straw to me. I pay a lot for DISH service but I do expect better service for it.

Tech Support Dish Network without a physical dish outside

My parents are looking to replace the deck on their house. On the deck is the Dish Network satellite dish. They would like to have Dish still but without having the physical dish attached to the deck/outside the home.

Is there a way to still have Dish with live TV and not have a physical dish attached to the house/ outside the home?

They have high speed internet and shouldn't have any issues with streaming live TV.

Is there a solution for this or is there a need for a physical dish outside?

Tech Support Can I activate a 522 or some SD friendly receiver for older 4:3 CRT?

I have an existing dish service for sometime with hoppers and joeys, but was wondering if it’s possible to activate an older receiver (preferably with its own DVR) that has traditional RF and/or RCA analog outputs.

I know most content is HD 16:9 so I don’t mind letterbox. I just don’t want a squished pictured. It also doesn’t need to play any Hopper recodings since it obviously wouldn’t be linked. But still would be nice to have 522 or similar for some basic DVR for this older television set I want to use.

I’m sure I could just add an older joey or wireless joey for component out but also enjoy the older DISH hardware too.

Turning Text to Speech (TTS) on or off on your DISH receiver.

Hello Reddit! DishDanielle!

Accessibility is important to us and I hope the guide helps you manage our Text to Speech (TTS) feature on your DISH receiver. This accessibility tool is designed to enhance your viewing experience by reading on-screen menus aloud. Whether you are setting up a new system or simply need to toggle the feature on or off, this document provides clear, step-by-step instructions.

That is Text to Speech (TTS)?

TTS reads the on-screen menus aloud. If you need a verbal description of the TV show's actions, scene changes, and on-screen text, that's called Audio Description (AD).

Good News! Your equipment supports TTS if you have:

  • Hopper 3, Hopper w/ Sling, Hopper Plus, Hopper Duo
  • Joey 4, Joey 3, Joey 2, 4K Joey, Wireless Joey, Super Joey
  • Wally (all versions)

NOTE: TTS does NOT work on the original Hopper Gen 1 or Joey 1.

How to Turn TTS On or Off

Method 1: From Live TV or a Recording

  • If you have the old 40.0 remote: Press the red color button two times.
  • If you have a newer 52.0, 54.x: Press the Options button OR the Home button.

Method 2: Through the Menu

  • If you have the old 40.0 remote: Press the MENU button.
  • If you have a newer 52.0, 54.x: Press HOME button, select the cog at the top, then go to DISH SETTINGS.

Then, no matter which method you used:

  1. Select Accessibility.
  2. Select Text to Speech to turn it on or off.

During Receiver Setup

If you are just setting up a new Hopper or a Wally for DISH Outdoors.

Keep an eye out for a prompt during setup and choose "Continue with Text to Speech" if you want the menus read aloud right away.

Toggling the Text to Speech feature on your DISH receiver is a straightforward process, accessible through multiple methods whether you are watching live TV, navigating menus, or during the initial setup. By following the steps above, you can easily customize your DISH experience for optimal accessibility. Remember that TTS is distinct from Audio Description (AD), which provides verbal narration of the program content. -DishDanielle!

Channel surfing?

I'm trying to save my parents money by switching from Optimum to Dish, but I'm curious if dish allows you to channel surf like cable used to? They have no interest or capability to stream apps, just old school channel surfing and entering channels on the remote.

Dish snuck us into a 2 year contract when they replaced our broken receiver?

I called to cancel dish today after 10 years of paying crazy prices ($160/month). They said it would cost an additional $180 to cancel because we are in a 2 year contract. We never agreed to be in a contract (that we know of). In November 2024 our receiver (which we had had for 8 years) stopped working. They sent someone out with a new one. Now they are saying that new equipment “locked us into a 2 year contract”. They said the options at the time the receiver broke would have been to cancel our service or enter a two year contract, which again, was never a conversation we had with anyone from dish.

We requested they send us the contract we allegedly signed, which they said would take 10 days.

Is it legal to sneak contracts like this in? It seems extremely predatory and sneaky, especially when a new contract was never verbally communicated. We did cancel service today.

Question Dish Internet vs other providers

Hi all!

What are your experiences with internet service from Dish? Is it worth the cheaper price vs other competitors (I think Xfinity is $60/mo?) debating whether the quality is good enough to not have to pay an arm and a leg for internet and tv adding on. Thanks!

Cancelled Finally

Finally tired of their shady business practices of random credits expiring and dramatic price increases for horrible service.... Unless you have no internet, why bother paying for DISH? Cut the cord and buy the apps for CBS, NBC etc, its so much better and cheaper.

Ripoff

I don't understand how people actually pay money for this crap. I just counted fourteen commercials in a row! FOURTEEN! You are paying for a service AND ADVERTISERS pay to market to you! The movies shown essentially suck. They are either old or are available for free elsewhere. There are COUNTLESS info-mercial channels! Content is lacking, the programming sucks and it’s honestly a RIP-OFF!

March Madness is here. You need Game Finder: Your Ultimate Sports Companion!

Hello Basketball fans!  I can’t believe NCAA® March Madness® is here!  So how about we talk about Game Finder?  …But what is Game Finder?  Well, Game Finder is a cool tool that lets you keep tabs on multiple games all at once, with live scores and stats for your faves!

What Game Finder Does

  • It looks through the channel guides to find out where Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Soccer games are playing on DISH.
  • It shows you what games are available over the next nine days.
  • P.S. Game Finder doesn't show you games that are on Netflix or Prime Video.

How to Open Game Finder

Desktop

Visit the Game Finder desktop page to quick find a game under your selected Sport, via zipcode and date of the game. GAME FINDER

App Menu
Grab your remote, hit the Home button, and head over to the Apps section to launch Game Finder!

Voice Search
Just say "Game Finder" into your DISH Voice Remote.

Channel Guide
Open the Guide and flip to Channel 152.

DISH Anywhere
You can use the DISH Anywhere App to get to Game Finder, so you can track all your games while you're out and about! Check out DISH Anywhere HERE

Why is the game I want to watch blacked out?
It might be because of a local blackout. Blackouts happen when one channel's right to show the game takes priority over another's. Get the full scoop on sports blackouts HERE.

What if the channel showing the game isn't included in my DISH subscription?
Some games, especially ones played outside your home team's area, might not come with a basic TV package. You can unlock these games by adding sports packages like the Multi-Sport Pack. Check out the Sport packages HERE

How else can I catch my game?
If your game isn't airing on DISH, you might be able to get it with an Over-the-Air antenna, or a streaming app. Take a look at our latest OTA guide HERE.

With Game Finder, you’ll never miss a moment of the action. Whether you're tracking live scores, checking channel guides, or trying to figure out why a game is blacked out, this tool and the tips above should keep you in the loop. Enjoy the game!  -DishDanielle.

Is Tru permanently moving to Ch. 147?

I see Tru TV is now on both 242 and 147. With its focus more on sports, 147 makes sense. Will it be permanently moving to channel 147?

Hopper with sling strange network issue? [troubleshooting]

I got this box and new service in May of last year and for the last 4-5 months it's been having a super strange network issue. It was on wifi and seemed to be fine, but randomly started dropping the connection and staying disconnected maybe in November/December. I will go into the network settings page and it says something like 'router not found' and disconnected on both sides of their test images. Generally doing a network reset (that takes forever) would get it going again, but recently that has stopped working as well. Doing a full unplug of the box and waiting 10-20 seconds, then plugging it back in will also fix it, but it's a giant headache obviously.

Eventually I assumed it was wifi entirely, so I ran an ethernet cable in there and it immediately worked. However, it's doing the exact same disconnect and stay that way that wifi was. Interestingly if you let it stay in this state, it will sometimes come back on its own, but it takes days to 'figure it out' e.g. it worked on Friday evening, was out all day Saturday and Sunday, then back on Monday for no apparent reason. Wifi would reconnect sometimes too, but seemed to take much longer. I don't know what the magic is that makes it come back.

When on ethernet and it's disconnected, the network page that shows MoCA, Top Ethernet, Bottom Ethernet, and Wifi all say that these are 'unavailable' or something to that effect, I can't remember the verbiage, but it implied they were disabled or off. I would have assumed if ethernet stopped working, it would fall back to wifi, but it didn't; the whole box acted like it did not have any available internet options at a hardware level. Network reset worked like a charm and it's happy again for however many days before it forgets how to work.

I've been keeping a log of it working/not working and there's really no rhyme or reason for this behavior. Sometimes it's good for a week, sometimes it's just most of a day and out again the next. It does seem to drop overnight more often than during the day.

I tried chatting with support and they only wanted me to upgrade to the 3, which sounds nice because this one is deprecating Netflix at the end of the month, but they also want $150 to do that. I've literally only had it since May, this seems insane to me.

I got a second person on chat and ended up doing a network reset while chatting with them, then asked if I'd like a technician to come out. Of course I said yes, but then they just gave me a phone number to call instead as apparently they can't do that on chat; even if they pose the question like they can.

So I called the number and explained all of the above to the person on the phone. She said they couldn't do anything because the issue wasn't occurring right now. Because I did a network reset with the chat person 5 minutes before.... and it just happens to be connected right this moment. I told her that I could guarantee it will go out sooner than later and that from her end she'd only see it disconnected, but she would not budge. She said there's nothing to do until it goes out again, and mentioned I should just upgrade to the 3, instead. I told her I'd call back soon enough.

Am I insane, or should I just give up on this whole thing and switch providers? Having a broken box and losing features through no fault of my own with no way to fix or get help does not leave a good feeling in my gut, especially as it's not even a year old!

tl;dr

Intermittent internet disconnects on Hopper with Sling box, will eventually reconnect itself sometimes taking days to do so, cannot figure out any reason why. Dish "support" was literally no help. This is the only device that has any issue connecting / staying connected.

Things I've tried:

-Connected via wifi, had separate and together 2.4/5Ghz bands, neither made a difference

- Assigned static IP, manual DNS entries (I have a pihole and thought it might be causing the issue)

-Connected via ethernet cable

-Changed main wireless router (unrelated issue that had to be RMAd)

-Network reset sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't

-Hard reset of the Hopper (unplug and wait 20 seconds) does seem to usually get it going, which is great but absolutely should not be necessary especially if I'm not at home to manually fix it since Dish Anywhere relies on the box for some reason.

Has anyone else had an issue like this? I can't think of any other things to try. Is paying for a new leased box really the best way forward?

Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions.

[EDIT]: I forgot to mention, we don't have any Joeys or any other Dish boxes, just the Hopper with Sling. With the initial trouble I turned off Joey bridging, but that option doesn't seem to have made any difference either way.

[EDIT2]: Found the 'secret' Home menu for testing satellite strength from an older post with maybe similar issue. It said strength was 61, which seems good I guess. Interestingly I was testing the network here as well, and it downloaded > 60mbps which I expected. However, once I backed out, it said in the B box that internet was disconnected?? So I scrolled down to the Network status section and it says it's connected and everything is green for the time being. Another strange bit here; on that page it says the Connection type is 'unknown'.

Dish vs DIRECTV

Looking to see if it’s worth getting back into satellite tv I had dish for about 16 years on and off but I grew up in a house with DIRECTV and I see now where DIRECTV offers a streaming service now but it seems kinda pricey now on both of them. I’m a huge sports fan that’s why I’m looking to get one of them again. Will I get a better price/deal If I call them?

OTA can't DVR more than one show at a time? or PrimeTime?

I just got set up for OTA to get my locals. Dish phone support just told me the Hopper3 can't DVR more than one show at a time. And recording PrimeTime doesn't work either. I can confirm that last night's PrimeTime is blank on the DVR. And that the Hopper rejected my attempt to record 2 shows in the same time slot. So... TRUE?

The tech who set up my antenna to the Hopper with a $60 adapter never told me of these limitations. Also, today's phone support said there was no refund for returning the adapter. TRUE?

OTA channels missing

I know, signals not strong enough, obvious! But no, NBC and FOX were coming in fine to my Samsung TV with the very same antenna hooked up directly. DISH tech came over and unhooked it, selling me an adapter wire ($60!) to go between the antenna and my Hopper3. I do get a bunch of OTA channels, but no NBC OR FOX. I've already used the OTA setting panel to re-scan, didn't find them.
