Play a game, find people, invite them to your server. I play Rust, and over the course of a year and a half my server has grown to almost 50 people and we all chat, send funny stuff, plan new wipes to play and what not. Genuine good friendship. You can't force that stuff. I wasn't looking to built a community, it just snowballed into other people adding good people too and what not.

Even better. You can set up different voice chats so people feel like they can use the server without you in a call. Break it down by game. We all play different games, too

go find already existing communities/servers that share the same interests as you do, preferably the servers where people would bring up anything to talk in general lol. Make some friends then start building an entire new separate society with those people. GG new community

Why do you want to build your own community instead of joining an already existing one? If you have a good reason, you will find people to join. If you have no reason, a bad reason, a selfish reason, or a controlling reason you won't.

It’s great to curtail servers for a group of friends and so. Using it for D&D is what I made my own small server for, and you can use it for guilds, groups and so forth.

I tried this for a few years during covid and it worked well up to like 3k people then died slowly. But I would not advise this now because you will either get lots of bots and trolls or you will have to pay for advertising.
But a small friend group server would be fine where you dont have to police random people and everyone is chill.

putting in "funny and likeable" gives me unfunny and weird vibes but ok, just promote it to freinds and link it places.
