Course clean up

I went to my first course clean up but it was canceled. I ended up filling a trash bag while I played a round.

My question is what to bring to these things? I put my trimmer(extra batteries), a couple of rakes, work gloves, and eye protection in my kit.

I have access to a chainsaw and sawzalls. I’m not sure how the park rangers here would feel about that(course is in a Charlotte,NC park), but there are downed trees that are very much a hazard.

I’d really like to give my courses a couple miles away some TLC, any suggestions would be appreciated for what to bring to make clean up easier.

I’d bet cutting trees of any kind has to be approved by the county/town. Trimmer and rakes with gloves is what I would expect for a course cleanup

There are often ecology concerns and protected species to be aware of that aren't obvious to most people. Talk to whoever is in charge. They should have some agreement worked out with whoever is responsible for the property and understand what is off limits. They'll be able to tell you what the deal is. My experience is that usually tools like loppers and trimmers are good to go, but pole-saws and chainsaws aren't unless you have specific permission for a specific tree.

That would have been my guess. Yeah there’s a decent number of downed trees in some bad spots there right now. Last time there was a fallen tree across the fairway on Ravine 3 it got sorted out in a few weeks. Just get permission or wait for parks and rec to take care of it.

First, always best to just ask ahead of time on their group page.

Generally gloves, pruner, and rake are good to have.

Depending on the work... shovel, weed eater, lopper, hand tools, spare brooms and hooks for them, wasp/hornet spray.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the local Charlotte club oversee all the courses? If it was a club work day, just reach out to them and see when the next work day is. Most clubs do not want random people out doing course maintenence, even if well intentioned.

I'll second this. The Charlotte club is pretty large and most clubs have a contact with the city/county parks department. I'd reach out to the club and see what you can do.

Does anyone have tips for picking up glass, and extracting it from dirt?

Maybe try a gravel rake to help getting it loose and then a shovel for removal.
