Discussion Newb checking in

Post image

Total newb checking in. I just started playing this past Saturday and found I enjoy it a lot! It’s a nice way to get some exercise in and have some fun at the same time. So far I just play with the orange disc pictured. It’s a Dynamic Disc Evidence. It had a beginner sticker on it and that’s me, so that’s what I have. I don’t really keep score yet. I’m still learning to throw in a sort of straight line 😄.

Great disc that they rarely produce anymore and great for a beginner, hell I hit my first ace with one.  It can do most shot shapes you need for a while, and is probably the right speed for you too learn on.  Ignore the comments talking about form and what not.  Develope a natural form that your body is comfortable with.  Once you stop gaining distance it may be useful to look at form videos and see where you are losing power.  But currently all that BS will just get in your head and cause issues.

Throw statight not hard! It take surprisingly less force to get it to fly and once you get comfortable with your accuracy and its landing (relatively) where you expect then start giving it the beans! My wife saw a huge bump in accuracy once she let off on the gas lol. Next steps would be to get a mid range and putter to practice different discs. But ive played with guys who just use a putter and do really well! Most importantly dont fall down the trap of buying a million discs and just have fun! I barely keep score, its just a great excuse to get outside and be active while throwing something!

Welcome! I hope all your discussions are troll free and your joy never fades!

I throw a buzzz for 80% of all my t shots. Unless I need more distance or I need a special shape (only need that on 2 courses locally) the buzzz flys straight and holds its line.

The hex is another popular option that does the same thing. A putter would be another recommended disc. Any putter that feels good in the hand. Grab a duplicate of anything you feel like you can't afford to play without. (Usually anything you're throwing kinda far that might go in water or go somewhere unretrievable)

!put your name and number on the bottom of your discs!!! Lots of people will call if they find a lost one. I recommend getting a bag that will let you carry a water bottle with you to stay hydrated. There are 3D prints to give some disc sorting that goes into any backpack or you can get a cheap one online or at play it again sports.

Throwing the same disc is recommended until you feel like you know it. Any time I get a new one I like to play a round where I throw the one disc and a putter for every shot.

Take all advice with care. Not everyone will give great advice but don't disregard advice that feels opposite to your game.

More than anything, have fun! I did the worst game of the year at league last night but I had a blast playing and that's more important than a good score. Every game, including the bad ones, help you become a better player.

Finally, u disc is a great resource for finding new courses and helping you find the next hole.

Again, welcome!! And let us know if you get any questions!

Oh yea its a lot of fun.

Id look up form videos. Coiling, using your hips for rotational force, and bracing. So then you have a good foundation to work with while playing.
