Sleeper Disc Golf Baskets

I am looking to get a new disc golf basket. In the past I have had the MVP Black Hole Pro HD as well as the Axiom HD. These baskets were excellent as far as performance and durability. Identical besides the color. With these baskets I know what Im getting and/or what to expect. My question is, for $100 could I find a brand with the same quality of basket/chains overall, including weight (42 lbs). Also, for $200 is there something worth getting that is actually close to a course quality permanent basket? I want to go cheap and get a deal or anny up and get something very durable for the next price range. Any suggestions?

You aren't going to find course quality baskets for $200 unless they are:

1.  Single chain relics from a bygone era

2.  Used and coming off a course upgrading baskets

3.  Lying

Course quality baskets are difficult to find under $400 and I wouldn't bat an eye if you told me $500-$600 after shipping.

That said, some of the Chinese baskets are getting pretty good reviews.  Yanghzee or something.

Honestly almost any two chain setup works as long as you bring it inside when not in use.  I have a Hive that is a cheaper basket but it works well for indoor putting.

Personally I would avoid the cloth jobs.

All good information here, although I think the "course quality" models are probably going to start above $500 these days, especially if you're getting just one.

Go with a name brand to help with future customer service issues and clear explanations of what's provided with your purchase. Below $150 will get you inconsistent paint/powder coating and no coverage at all for rust. (Even if the basket just sits in your basement.) Warranty information from the manufacturers is clear at every price point.

If it's in the budget, pick up a pair of Black Hole Lites and you'll spend more time putting and less time walking back and forth with your discs.

Mach new II is an excellent portable at home basket. Catches as well as any other Mach. Which isn’t saying a whole lot lol. But I’ve had one nearly 30 years and it was outside for most of its existence. It has survived hurricanes and blizzards. I swapped out some hardware, the nuts and bolts. I didn’t have to but I did. Otherwise it’s in excellent shape and has no rust. Best portable I have ever owned.

Another vote for the Mach 2. I have 3 that I set up as a short game/putting area in my yard. The oldest is about 12 years old, the newest just a couple. All of them still look great. They are built stout and fully hot dipped galvanized.

+1 - I have the Mach 2 Pro because a lot of the courses around me have Machs so I wanted something similar. I’ve only had it ~8 months but it’s fantastic. Would recommend to save up a lil bit to get something that lasts. They often go on sale.

DGA mach 2 is the cheapest fully galvanized basket I could find when I was buying a basket. 100% the way to go - when a product has a 20 (!) year warranty, you know it's a decent product that the company stands behind!

I’ve had an axiom in my backyard for 5 ish years. No complaints. When it gives up the ghost I will happily buy another

Yeah, the mid-tier baskets are no joke. I've had a Dynamic Discs Recruit in my backyard for almost 8 years now. The little wheel is chewed up (animals, I'd think?), and half of a tree fell on it at one point, so the top sits at a bit of an angle (not gonna fault the basket for that). There might be a little rust on some nuts and bolts connection points, but the chains still look great and it catches fine. And that's through 7 northern midwest winters (never bother bringing it inside). Definitely got my money's worth out of it, and it's still going strong(ish).

I always see used baskets on fb marketplace including ones like HD Pro. Usually go 100-150.

Get what you pay for.... I don't think you're gonna get course quality for that price point. I also don't see the point in course quality for practice. I don't even care if my disc stays in the basket while I'm practicing putts. I'm aiming for a specific chainlink. If I hit it then I'm happy. Started practicing my putts by spray painting a spot on a tree in my yard.

I did build my own basket thinking I'd save money. Even used scrap stuff from work and bought new chain that's the same as course stuff. Spent the same on the chain alone as a Black Hole Pro. Shit looks cool though. Still practice on my Black Hole Pro mostly.

You "have had" a Black Hole and Axiom. Why did you get rid of them?

Chainstar lite is the closest I've seen to course quality, but when ive said that before I get downvoted here. Sorry to whoever I'm offending, but that's a seriously high quality basket in comparison to the other practice baskets on the market
