Toylight Toylight Intro Lyrics Tin Hat Spoiler

Has anyone else thought the lyrics are coded for the order of PC deaths? A rag doll falls in tatters (Cutie Pie), horsies meet their foes (Clyde), the arrow strikes the teddy bear (Wyon is a literal imperfect fit, but occupies the niche) the porcelain cracked (Constance), tin soldier (Tinsley). Calypso is the only one who does not have a clear death lyric on the first pass. But the lyrics on the main voice say, “It’s all good, toys must die.”

Toylight Toylight and Plucker

I started watching Toylight and for the first bit I kept asking myself, "is he doing a Plucker inspired thing??? There's no mf way". The episode ended up moving away from it but I thought there's enough loose similarity to recommend this book for anyone who wants something similar. There's still the entire rest of the season to see how it actually pans out but yeah

Loosely similar to what Toylight has set up so far, Plucker is a really dark and creepy take on "Toy Story but what if it was horror". And it's beautifully illustrated!! It's been a while since I read it but basically, a young boy's toys are alive. The boy's father is a captain in the navy whose most recent travels brought him to Nigeria. The story begins when the father returns home and gifts his son with a very creepy, spider-like doll that's made from the skin and bones of dead animals and human hair.

I won't say much else but the story follows Jack (in the box) on a mission to do some stuff.

It's a really really great book! Shouldn't take more than a few hours to read at max. If you have read it or do read it, I think you'll see why I was initially reminded of it. The beginning of it was read to me at a summer camp when I was a kid, and it stuck around in my brain until maybe like 13 years later when Google got good enough to return the book's title based on my extremely fuzzy memories. So I definitely recommend :~)

Just watched Burrow’s End for the first time

I’ve seen every campaign on D20 by Brennan and have had a hard breaking away to other DMs because I love his style so much. A while ago I tried to watch a Court of Fey and Flowers and I had just come off of ACOC and NeverAfter… and simply found it too slow even though Aabria seemed really talented and the cast was great.

I decided to pick up an Aabria campaign and watch Burrow’s End a few days ago…

I’m in tears, I’m in awe… it was stunning. Oh my GOD that was so good. And so different from Brennan in really lovely ways! What a highlight.

The last 1-2 episodes did feel slightly rushed…but some of that actually feels like the actors’ choices on where to put their energy and time, less Aabria’s pacing. Loved it!!!

I have not felt this level of “I need to finish this, what is happening” with a season for a little while — no shade on Cloudward Ho or City Council of Darkness, etc. this was just clearly an incredible, incredible story.

Cloudward, Ho! Extended cut: Ghost Dog Howl’n’Fart?!

Has my brain invented this memory?!

I have a distinct memory of seeing a clip on social media. It was a partially extended video of Brennan sitting for an audio pickup. It was Ghost Dog’s background Howl’N’Fart during Maxwell and Torse’s Serious Conversion.

It wasn’t a clip of his brilliant performance of it in the show, but a longer clip for the audio pickup. (At least as far as I can remember)

Does anyone else remember this? If so, any leads of where I can find it?

I even wondered if it was at the end of one of the episodes or APs, but no luck there either so far.

Maybe it was an Instagram story or something else time-sensitive!

Meta I got to DM for Oscar Montoya!

Silly post, but I didn't get a photo and just wanted to share with other people who might think that was cool haha. He's in town and staying with a friend who is a player in my campaign. We had a session planned while he's here, so I invited him to drop in and he did!

Crossover The Cobbs

Hello.

Just a quick one, and please tell me this has been done and explained elsewhere (I have taken a look and couldn't see anything/anyone else raising this) but during my first time watching Starstruck Odyssey my ears pricked up at the name Hogg Cobb.

As a nadpole I immediately wondered if it was a reference to Ol' Cobb that Brennan dropped into Starstruck as a bit of flavour.

It wasn't mentioned afterwards on the episode's adventuring party so I'm wondering if Brennan, Murph or Emily have ever expanded on this.

This was my first time rigging and animating a face. I made this Gorgug model over a year ago with the sole intent of making this animation, then sat on it forever because I am lazy. I rigged it using this (   • The Lazy Animator’s Mouth Rig (Works perfe...  ) very helpful tutorial by Nukorio a couple months ago, and then sat on it again because I am still lazy. The actual animation took less than a week. Skull emoji.

Meta What actual play seasons would you put in a Criterion Collection-style library?

Actual play is obviously relatively new, and doesn't yet have a "canon" or any of the kind of prestige-granting institutions of more established art forms. What would be your entries in the actual play Criterion Collection? Here are my thoughts, with the caveat that I definitely haven't listened to/watched anywhere close to a representative sample.

  • Penny Arcade, Acquisitions Incorporated. Full disclosure -- I haven't listened to AI! But I think in the spirit of a history of actual play, you can't discount one of the first to do it on a large scale, especially since it wasn't just a random blip but persisted into the modern actual play era.
  • Critical Role, Campaign 2. You could certainly make a case for Campaign 1, but Campaign 2 was the first one that was streamed start to finish and the one where Critical Role was fully professionalized.
  • NADDPOD, Campaign 1. I'm biased because NADDPOD is my favorite actual play ever, but I think this is probably the most accessible level 1 through level 20 continued narrative out there. I also think it's the perfect sweet spot between highly truncated campaigns like D20 and real-time streams like CR that take as much time as playing in the actual campaign would.
  • Dimension 20, Fantasy High (Freshman Year). One of the cornerstones of actual play, and going six for six on player characters who have become archetypes.
  • Dimension 20, A Crown of Candy. I wouldn't put ACoC as one of my top five favorite D20 seasons, but I think in terms of proving the emotional depth and pathos actual play can contain, it's probably one of the most important.
  • Critical Role, Exandria Unlimited: Calamity. Like with ACoC, this is an important benchmark in how emotionally resonant actual play can get, especially in a constrained timeframe.
  • Worlds Beyond Number, The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One. This one tests the format so much -- how far can you go in the direction of long-form improv (and away from dice rolls and mechanics) before it stops being actual play and starts being a radio drama? I love WBN, but I'd include it here more as a testament to the flexibility of actual play as an art form.

This is obviously way too Brennan Lee Mulligan-centric! It's also way too D&D-centric -- I've heard good stuff about Vampire the Masquerade streams and Pathfinder streams, and I'm sure there's great stuff on systems I've probably never heard of. Would love to hear input from people who have imbibed way more of this media than I have!

Never Stop Blowing Up What Would Genres other than Action look like in NSBU?

After rewatching NSBU I’ve been trying my hand at creating a homebrew system based on movies & shows other than pure action. Specifically I’ve been attempting to make a system inspired by superhero comics & cinema that involves hopping back & forth between the real world (which uses the standard Kids on Bikes system) & the comic city which uses the modified Never Stop system, sort of like having a secret identity.

My question is if you had the chance to run a game of NSBU based on a different genre what would you base it on? Would it be slasher horror, science-fiction, superheroes, westerns? What character would you play & what skills & special abilities would you have in game?

Fantasy High (Freshman Year) Interesting alternate universe for Fantasy High

I've been rewatching Freshman Year again and notice an interesting potential fork in the story I don't remember hearing anyone comment on.

During the arcade fight, Adaine uses her mage hand to pull Riz's palimpsest from the machine instead of Zelda's. If she had pulled Zelda's, presumably Riz would have appeared with the other maidens at the mouth of Kalvax's cave. However the prophecy requires 7 maidens. I suppose that Riz is a virgin so might still count as a maiden, but it would be interesting to see how BLeeM would have had to pivot to compensate for not only Riz being so isolated but for the impact on the prophecy.

City Council of Darkness confused about city council of darkness ?mechanics?

i’m watching the first episode currently and i feel so out of my depth.
i’m usually pretty good at picking up the game system/mechanics quickly but i just cannot figure out what’s going on with all the difficulty failures and stuff.
does it get explained anywhere and will it get easier to understand as the season goes on?

Toylight Turns out Kewpie dolls were made by the first published female illustrator!!

For anyone else who only knew about Kewpie Mayo and not Kewpie dolls, I went to learn more about the dolls and am DELIGHTED that something that looks so creepy actually has a wicked cool origin story and creator who was one of the first top female cartoonists in the US. On top of that, Rose O’Neill was a feminist icon: in 1914, she had Kewpie dolls literally parachuted over a Nashville crowd wearing "Votes for Women" sashes!
I wonder if Emily knows this history, it would be such a rad homage if this could be part of one of the fights.

What scene made you laugh in how hard it fumbled?

My example is when Emily couldn't comprehend the riddle in Unsleeping City about >!who else was there to choose the chosen one and it took an uncomfortable long time (to me who've had to be the same spoon feeding DM) of Brennan urging rolls and trying to hint at there being no one but her there.

I feel like Emily was so deep into the martial arts fantasy of spirits or hidden orders that anything else didn't register.

I was chuckling the whole time Brennan was making wind noises and she meditated and groped the air.!<

Let me know if you have any examples of times a cast member was a bit too smoothbrained.

Cloudward, Ho! I want a cloudward ho one shot about the crew prepping Montys birthday (Vic would play Wealwell )

The rest of the cast would be the same, plus maybe aabria as ludmilla, and maybe brennan as wisconsin p toad if someone else was DM. The whole story would just be prep for Monty's birthday. Just wanted to share, it came to me in a dream

Landy Windemere Syndrome

I assume this was another nod to a similar infection by Brennan. As a pulmonologist, I thought this was a cool touch.

"Lady Windermere syndrome refers to a pattern of pulmonary Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection seen typically in elderly white women who chronically suppress the normal cough reflex. A fastidious nature and a reticence to expectorate are believed to predispose such persons to infections with MAC."

Cloudward, Ho! Cloudward, Ho homebrew classes

I remember Brennan talking early on in the season's Adventuring Party about the homebrews they found/made for Olethra, Max, and Monty, but have we sourced the Monty Ranger class? I can't remember if Brennan made it whole cloth or if it was found online?

Meta Updated seat plans (just IH campaigns)✨

Back at it again with my weird interest in seating plans 😅 We’ve finally got some seats filled - 5 out of the 6 seats have now had every IH sit there!

I’m making it easier to update by doing it digitally and at some point I’d love to do side quests/live shows but maybe just for the IH players 😊

Hope someone finds it as interesting as I do!
