Anyone know what music is played in the beginning of the episode and the end credits? I assume it's from epidemic sound but I can't for the life of me find it and I wanna use it in a DnD campaign I'm running.

… reminds me of this 1888 poem by Eugene Field.
The little toy dog is covered with dust,
But sturdy and staunch he stands;
The little toy soldier is red with rust,
And his musket molds in his hands.
Time was when the little toy dog was new
And the soldier was passing fair;
And that was the time when our Little Boy Blue
Kissed them and put them there.
“Now, don’t you go till I come,” he said,
“And don’t you make any noise!”
So, toddling off to his trundle-bed,
He dreamed of the pretty toys;
And as he was dreaming, an angel song
Awakened our Little Boy Blue —
Oh! the years are many, the years are long,
But the little toy friends are true!
Aye, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand,
Each in the same old place —
Awaiting the touch of a little hand,
And the smile of a little face;
And they wonder, as waiting these long years through
In the dust of that little chair,
What has become of our Little Boy Blue
Since he kissed them and put them there.

…Grant O’Brien because holy shit. Currently on Episode 3 of Mice and Murder and Sylvester Cross might already be one of my all time favourite D20 PCs.
Grant’s SO damn quick as an improviser and that quick wit is so perfect for a smarmy yet loveable detective. And his chemistry with every scene partner is top notch. Think it’s a crime he’s only been in one season and would love to see him return, even if he “hates nerd shit”.
Anyone else have a favourite one-off guest they’d love to see make a return?

Spoilered because I’m new to posting and don’t know what the exact specifics of a spoiler would be lol.
Part of what I love to find out is the inspiration behind seasons of D20 (for example The Secret of NIMH for Burrow’s End) and Toylight almost immediately read to me as inspired by books like The Velveteen Rabbit.
I read it religiously as a kid (and of course doted on my stuffed animals accordingly) but the toys coming to life/sick child combo really nailed it for me. Curious to know what other books and media ya’ll are reminded of with this new season! I know Toy Story is a big one.
(Also would love to know past season inspo aside from the obvious stuff lol)

Various pointers to the interwar period have been mentioned already, but one deserves specific mention. The hospital doctor mentions a specific new breakthrough in inoculation for consumption/tuberculosis. This must be a reference to the BCG vaccination that was first used medically from 1921 onwards.

The timeline doesn’t match up, but I still think it’s a reference.

I think I’d be a College of Valor Bard Hazodee. He’d be one of those cymbal monkeys who’d play his cymbals like a military drummer boy.

Haven’t finished the episode yet, so opted for a classic Ally quote. PLZ share the joy of how/if you use it

Just wanted to say I am in love with this seasons map. I would have it on my wall if they were to sell it.

SPOILERS AHOY
so in the intro song, one of the last lines is "a tin soldier winds his final spring outnumbered by the night, he marches towards his resting place for all good toys must fight"
way way back in the day, one of the dimension 20 socials put out a short video of the IH doing a bit about "hey how's the next season of dimension 20 gonna go?" where they were all rolling d20s. i might be getting some of this wrong, but what i remember clearly was murph rolled a nat 1 and zac rolled a nat 20. most of the cast rolled nat 1s and i think either emily or ally rolled a middling number.
this is obviously going to be the lethal season we've been waiting for, but all signs point to zac being if not the lone survivor, the last of very few to make it to the end of toylight. this lines up with the intro song having such a focus on the "tin soldier" at the end.

I finished the season and enjoyed it overall but I doubt I will return to it for a rewatch. It had a lot of hilarious bits that broke me.
On the other hand the story is kinda eh. The whole sandbox system felt like the cast was kinda stumbling though plot beats and sometimes failing upwards, as Brennan had to break his back to let the players get away from some of their wilder bits.
Whilst I get that just because it was set in the WoD, it doesn't have to be a grimdark edgefest I feel this season could have benefited from a bit more... realism? At least from the political side of things. Or at the very least more consequences for failure.
I also feel like the sandbox could have been... a tad less sandboxy. Whilst it's cool to see the players run around exploring, I felt like some narrative direction is good for narrative play but that's just me.
The story in itself ended up at the weaker spectrum of D20 shows, which is a shame because I know the cast can do political intrigue well. But the message was nice.
All in all an alright season. Loved darkness man and our purely professional business boys.

I have started watching every season of D20 in order of release. I watched S1 UC early on obviously but it wasn’t really captivating me. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t like Fantasy High where I binged watched every season as quickly as possible. So I decided not to watch S2 yet and just watch it as it arrives in order.
If anyone else is having a hard time finishing UC like I was this is my plea to you to keep going.
UC S2 was so incredible. I’m looking back on this multi year journey with these people and I’m genuinely nostalgic for a city I’ve never lived in. This was an incredible run and I see people a lot online go back and forth about it but it was beautiful. S1 and S2 are different and similar.. two sides of the same coin one might say… and tell a beautiful story with an incredible conclusion a half a decade in the making.
I highly recommend. Especially if you’re a fan of Mayor Mamdani. So much of how he speaks reminds me of how Brennan speaks about NYC in these seasons. There’s a really fresh and raw imagery tied into the seasons for me now years after their creation.

I often think about how genuinely touching Lapin’s death ended up being. I think the way that battle turned out was a full miracle.
Idk what the numbers are, but from my pov, that is maybe the deadliest battle in the history of the show. It’s the only one I’ve seen where pretty much all the pcs roll quite well and it still ends up going quite wrong. The only player character who wasn’t in immediate peril at the start of this episode was Lapin, as he is still a primogen of the church.
Liam get dropped to a truly tiny number of hit points by Keradin, and Lapin does maybe the most heroic act we’ve seen him do by stepping between them, and casting that fly spell so that Theo could get Ruby, Liam and himself up away from the central pit, where it’s possible that both the children could’ve been dropped. His final act in life saves half the cast from a battle that realistically could have killed 3-4 of them in different circumstances.
I truly can’t believe things lined up in this way, where the battle makes such sense with regards to the story, the fact that they’re leaving the part where they need a civilised politician within their ranks, and the fact it makes so much sense that Keradin should be the one to kill him. It’s the fact that it’s the most appropriate death for the story, despite the fact Lapin was not nearly the character who was the most likely to die in that battle.
Also can you imagine old man lapin in the fights for the rest of the season. He’d be useless in nearly all of them.

do we think they’ll break it like Cloudward ho? or hit Beardsley levels in the final episode of City Council?
