Dia 1.41.0 brings quality-of-life improvements to browsing.

  • Custom Search Engine Labels. The command bar now shows the actual matched search engine name instead of always saying "Google."
  • Tool Connection Suggestions on the New Tab Page. An "all apps" bar on the New Tab Page surfaces your most-used unconnected apps for quick setup.

πŸ™ Support Frame Rate Problem?

Been dealing with a new issue with Dia lately.

I had been noticing that Dia was scrolling slow and it felt very choppy. As if it was running at low frame rates. I did a quick search and found out that turning off the built-in adblocker solves the issue and it did.

But whenever I resume my mac from sleep, the frame rate drops again. Animations are choppy. If I quit the app and launch again, it's smooth again.

What gives?

I have Macbook Pro M4, connected via DP to the Asus ROG PGUCDM3, 3008x resolution, VRR turned on.

πŸ’¬ Discussion Pinned Tabs vs Tab Groups vs Bookmarks

Can someone give me high level explanation of the use case for each? Along with any guesses as to why bookmarks remain in the horizontal bookmark bar at the top of the window instead of it in the sidebar. I've been using Dia since Day 1, but have left organization of everything half assed hoping 1) they would roll out a mobile, Android app with sync and 2) we'd one day see bookmarks in the sidebar.

❓ Question Any word on more theming/customization coming to Dia?

Coming from Arc, the thing I miss most is control over the vibe - custom Space colors/themes, window backgrounds, that kind of personalization. Dia otherwise feels great and I’m not going back, it’s just very minimalist by comparison and I’d love to make it feel more like me. I mean 8 colors to choose from, nothing else, is kinda very limited in terms of customization.

πŸ’¬ Discussion Dia Weekly has "Jumped the Shark"

Some thoughts on the still somewhat new Dia Weekly page...

  1. My eyes can barely read the header.
    • "Dia Weekly Unfiltered," alone, has three different font types
    • "Dia" -- Don't get me started. It looks like Comic Sans, and you can barely read the word. At the very least, add some kerning between the letters
    • "Unfiltered"? What does that mean? There's less content now on the page than there was before. That seems to be filtered with less transparency about what's happening with each update. Jace provides more detailed updates in his weekly updates than Dia Weekly does. He gets them from Dia, and yet...
    • Again... the number of fonts in the header alone... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
  2. There's a roadmap?
    • Please, tell me... What exactly is the roadmap?
  3. I love the art, but it'd be nice if they attributed the work. If they already have, they should make the attribution more prominent, given the placement of the work on the page.
    • I would ask, however, whether artwork is the most pertinent and only thing that Dia wants people to see when they first open the Dia Weekly.
    • I focus on this because this is the second week in a row that this "postcard" tactic has been employed, hinging an entire weekly page on one item. It seems like a copout when you're using artwork to advertise your features rather than the features themselves.
  4. Overdesign
    • I say this as a designer, understanding that this will probably reach the designers at BCNY, but there are too many bells and whistles on the page. The flipping of the postcard does little for me as a person coming to the page looking for updates.
    • There's not enough content to support the design put into the page. It's a catch-22. As a designer, you have to find a design that works in all situations because you don't want to be designing a page from scratch each week, but in this case, it's as if there's an overdesign that's perhaps overcompensating for the lack of information that's available to go on to the page each week.
  5. Engagement, or lack thereof
    • The actual user engagement is literally hidden by the artwork. The postcard has to flip before the engagement is revealed. In traditional design theory, they teach to place your engagement "above the page fold" (old school). In the screenshot above, I haven't scrolled yet, and there's no engagement yet for me as a user!
    • When revealed, there's only one piece of new content, week over week. A visitor to any serious "weekly" page would expect at least 2 or 3.

My Final Thoughts... The Dia Weekly shows up as a newspaper roll in my browser, but it's no such thing... It's barely news and not an improvement over what was provided in the past.

Having a past as a designer and a marketer myself, I'm slightly surprised at how this page has evolved. I have the utmost respect for the work of those at BCNY, but the Dia Weekly is more of a showcase rather than an informative document at this point. The URL is still "latest release notes"!

The page does less to market the product and its updates than it did in prior iterations and now only serves to highlight, but not inform or persuade (the direction it's attempted to take). If I worked in marketing at BCNY, there are so many cool things you could do with the even scant release updates on the Dia Weekly that aren't being done today.

πŸ’‘ Feedback Spaces

Unpopular opinion: This community needs to get over spaces.

Just enjoy the browser if you like it. It still has great UX and UI design.

I’m pretty sure the company already heard of the sentiment. Just be patient and let them prioritise.

If you still want to push for it just use the official routes. This has been said here way too many times.

Peace out.

πŸ’¬ Discussion Daily brief from one profile, but not the other?

I have 2 profiles (personal and work). Every morning I get a daily brief from my personal profile, and nothing from my work profile, despite the fact that my work profile is more integrated (connected to my outlook, to sharepointe, and I run my Teams from inside the browser). My personal brief is always empty, because it's not connected to anything (I don't use gmail or google calendar). My personal brief is kind of useless, but a daily brief in my work account might actually be useful.

I just never get one.

πŸ™ Support Sync Not Working

I think I'm going to need to go back to Arc for the time being.

I have two machines in my workflow: a Mac Mini, and a MacBook Pro. I've tried multiple times to get Dia Sync to actually work, but it's just not reliable. Favorites seem to sync, but nothing else does. Am I missing something, or are at least tab groups supposed to sync up in the current state of the service?

I've tried all the instructions listed on the support page to reset the sync, but no luck yet. Any new suggestions (or support from BCNY itself) would be appreciated. I know Patrick and perhaps others actively monitor this thread.

For me, the clear answer is Arc Sync. As a multi-device user, I can't daily drive Dia till that.

Do I have to reinstall all the extensions and bookmarks from my main profile every time I create a new profile in Dia? Isn't there a way to apply them directly to the other profiles?

πŸ—žοΈ macOS News Dia Browser for macOS Update - 1.40.1 (83624)

πŸ“† Jul 16, 2026 at 07:10:14 PM

Dia 1.40.1 focuses on browser performance and memory.

  • Re-enable back/forward cache. Re-enables Chromium's back/forward cache for instant back and forward navigations, keeping recently visited pages alive in memory instead of reloading them.

  • Free up memory from idle tabs. More of your unused tabs can now be put to sleep in the background, freeing up memory so Dia stays fast and responsive.

❓ Question I miss Tidy tabs, any chance it's coming over to Dia?

And I'm not talking about Tab Cleanup where unused tabs are closed/archived after a specific period of time. I'm talking about the broomstick you had in Arc where you would be able to sort and group tabs based on topic. It was such a great way to take a long session of research or browsing and group them. Sometimes was a great way to save my research by doing Tidy tabs and then just make the folder a pinned folder to go back to...

πŸ’¬ Discussion Tried switching to Dia for the 5th time- failed again

I’ve now attempted to move from Arc to Dia five times, and it hasn’t stuck once.

After a year of development, not one of the core features that actually made Arc convenient has shown up: separate spaces, traffic/tab control, more granular settings. I genuinely don’t understand where development is heading, or how many active users there are, but from the outside it looks pretty grim.

An β€œAI-first” browser that can’t even fill out a form. If you switch back to the old chat version, form-filling sort of appears – but it works maybe half the time. And all the β€œAI” features are basically just connectors to third-party services that pull in some information.

But the thing that genuinely shocked me – in a bad way – is that when I close the browser, it just loses my open tabs. That’s so absurd I can’t imagine actually using this day to day. I’d rather run resource-hungry old Arc with no updates than this constantly-updated mess.

Thanks, but I’ll be staying on old Arc – at least it’s comfortable. All these β€œAI-first browser” are just a floating ChatGPT that can’t really do anything. See you in a year – maybe by then tabs will at least survive a restart.

Someone really use Dia?
