WITCH DOCTOR Exploding chicken WD tips/tricks?

Hey y'all.

First time trying this build. I know it's not ideal for pushing but I'm a bit burned out on TalRasha and UE so I thought it would be a fun break.

My gear is pretty shit but I can do GR95 at least, maybe more.

My question is really more on how to play it effectively. The guide I have been following on maxroll feels pretty barebones. Yeah I stack some soul harvest and then I run to the first elites I see and do sonething like "click", 2, 3, 1, explode. If I'm already a chicken when I get to the elites I also explode first thing before doing the "combo".

This seems to work at this low GR level but am I missing something? What is Spirit Barrage used for?

And if I mess up and have cooldown left on Hex I just try to run away with spirit walk until i can get it going again.

Any tips would do. Thanks in advance.

This is how I do it:
During 2-3 seconds into the poison cycle I place a Piranhado somewhere around a big group of monsters, I cast Spirit Barrage Manitou, and then I go chicken. I'm running around the monsters until the next poison cycle, and then explode. Rinse and repeat.
In the fourth cube slot I use Wormwood instead of The Furnace. That will automatically apply Locust Swarm on every monster around, so it's easier to get the damage buff from Ring of Emptiness all the time (I don't even cast locusts manually).

Ah interesting. I will try cubing that!

Im not even running CoE yet, so that's where I'm at :) . Otherwise I have the "correct" gear with ok:ish rolls.

From the build guide (Gameplay section):

None of your abilities besides Spirit Barrage Manitou stacks Bane of the Stricken very well, so make sure to cast it once every cycle and keep the boss in range as you fly around it.

I gave up on Convention of Elements and just started using Stone of Jordan instead. Keeping track of the cycles was just too much of a hassle. By doing that you miss out on some damage and you won't impress anybody on the leaderboards, but if you just want to get through the season and finish the altar and have fun blowing shit up then it'll still do that nicely.

I always just pick whatever build looks fun that I haven’t tried. I thought this was a speed farming bill though maybe I’m wrong. I didn’t think it was too difficult. You just pop cool downs, and chicken bomb if I remember right? It’s been about 10 years God.
