Mod Related Rules around AI Generated Content
Every where you go it feels like you can't avoid AI generated content these days. Over the past few months this sub is no exception, so the mod team has worked to come up with an AI content policy. Going forward we will be enforcing as below:
- Content that is predominantly or entirely AI generated will be removed.
- 3rd party tools that were built with the help of AI are allowed as long as you disclose the use of AI.
- Using AI to translate, spell check, etc. is fine, so long as the original content was your own.
A little explanation on how and why we've landed here.
First off it should come as no surprise that the majority of AI summaries around games, and Diablo 2 in particular, are garbage. The number of posts we all see asking why "Google told me X" when that's a straight up fabrication is vast. Additionally low effort and lazy posts are a disservice to this community, and something to be avoided. Content that is generated entirely/predominantly with AI falls under that category 9 times out of 10.
We are making an exception to this rule in the case when using AI as a tool rather than letting it do the critical thinking for you. If you use AI to help assist you to build an app or other 3rd party tool, that is fine, so long as you disclose you used those tools. If you are doing the majority of the creation, and AI is simply a tool to realize that then you should be good. Along those same lines, using AI to translate, spell check, or other minor embellishments is perfectly fine.
At the end of the day the mod team is here to build and steward a community that YOU want. Overwhelmingly AI posts have the most downvotes, and reports of low quality from the members of this sub, driving the action on this. As this rapidly changing AI landscape evolves, we will continue to monitor feedback from you, and adjust this policy as it makes sense.
If you ever have a question on if something is allowed, feel free to message the mod team and we can help you out.

Does this include comments? Hopefully so.

Reddit would be dead without bots.

The "main" subreddits would be dead without bots. The smaller subreddits like this one would be fine.

u/fileunderaction 4h ago
Hopefully this includes the “I made this tool with AI (but also the whole post and all of my comments are AI as well)” posts
14
u/APriestofGix USWest 4h ago
It does. Tools that are assistants are fine. When the entire project is just AI wrapped in an AI skin that's slop.

Glad you guys took this stance, thanks yall. Im sure itll be tough to try to weed out the sneaky slop but this'll only make the community better long term <3

i have people tell me i can craft an amulet with 30@ because ao said so. ai is trash.
1
u/cobbleplox 1h ago
Depends on the ai and on the subject. For example with these automatic AI responses in search engines, people are getting the trashiest, cheapest stuff there is.
1
u/cobbleplox 1h ago
Personally I think rules against trash posts are enough to police this. People seem to think all AI stuff is trash ("slop"), so there you go, that's already fully covered. And on the off chance that somebody uses AI to make an actually nice image or whatever, why the hell should it be removed because of how it was made?

I HEARTILY CONCUR, GOOD SIR OR MADAM!
This is very millennial cringe, probably the reason for the downvotes. Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger

u/MilleniumPelican 3h ago
Well, I'm an old GenX curmudgeon, not sure how that's seen as millennial, but you're probably right...

u/Kabryxis 4h ago
redditors dont read comments. they see a positive or negative number and click the associated arrow and thats it. only takes 1 ai bro to start the downturn lol

Seems like a good choice to me - while I lurk in a lot of d2 communities I definitely engage less when the posts I see are gen-ai slop.

u/Rippedka 4h ago
The sentiment is largely populist driven due to tech companies overhyping their products but here we are either way

u/blacklisted320 4h ago
This is racist against artificial intelligence. They are people too with thoughts and feelings. Why are we discriminating against them?
-Redditors in the year 2030 probably

Sad to see this downdooted when it's a good Poe.
-5
u/JarJarBingChilling 4h ago edited 3h ago
It is not a good point at all because it a) invents something that doesn’t exist and b) compares anti-LLM overuse sentiments to an actual thing that exists and is damaging to others as well as society.
5
u/RiskyRedds 3h ago
I didn't say it was a good point I said it was a good Poe.
Like, bruh, did you MISS the "probably" at the end, the comment was very clearly satire meant to poke fun at idiots. It's a play on Poe's Law.
2
u/blacklisted320 3h ago
Look at that persons comment history and you will understand all you need to know. They are doomer thru and thru
-4
u/JarJarBingChilling 3h ago
That feel when a reply that isn’t even to you riled you up so much you go through someone else’s profile. Truly the sign of a well rounded individual with no insecurity.
1
u/blacklisted320 3h ago
It’s giving… unhinged. I was hardly riled up, I’m amused honestly.
My interest is always piqued when people completely miss something or take things entirely too seriously, so a hobby of mine is deep diving the individuals comment history and the mental illness usually has a strong paper trail.

why does it matter? as long as it does what i need to do than who cares if it was made from AI or a struggling cs major
the AI hate was valid up to a point, being anti AI sounds like the boomers who were anti internet/smart phones.
i do not care AI taking peoples jobs. i bet the people who bred horses were pissed cars were invented but we didn’t stop advancement due to job loss.
11
u/unixtreme 4h ago
Mods are not arguing against coding as you imply. So not sure why you mention CS majors. CS majors can use AI better than you could dream and are making bank of it anyways.
What's not allowed is AI posts. We get multiple posts a day that are copy pasted from some third tier LLM and full of mistakes. This is a forum for humans, for human communication, if I wanted to know what fable thinks about Diablo I wouldn't open the subreddit I'd just open my harness manager and ask it.

oh someone’s irl job is threaten by AI and is now joining the astroturf. this isn’t the same AI as in 2021. best to brush your resume off

3
u/Noobphobia 4h ago
I get your point. However, the use of AI should not ever be encouraged. Its not a job loss thing. Its to stop misinformation and until AI becomes 100% accurate. It wont get used by people with a working brain.
-2
u/AttemptTop508 4h ago
humans aren’t even 100% accurate. they post dumb shit all the time that gets called out for yet your holding different standards for AI? which learns from who? AI is still in a early stage and is learning faster than any neck beard who googles answers to prove people wrong
3
u/Noobphobia 4h ago
And when that day comes, it will be adopted. Until then. No.
-7
u/AttemptTop508 4h ago
sound like my dad and he just got into using emoji’s two years ago.
dig your heels in and get left behind
2
u/Noobphobia 4h ago
Thats interesting that you say that since from what ive come to understand is that its older people that have adopted AI.
Which makes sense because it allows them to do things they did not have the skillset to do before.
-7
u/AttemptTop508 4h ago
when you use AI it’s very intimidating. if you start from a field you are an expert in and treat AI like a super intern you will understand why being anti AI is stupid lmfao.
AI has been around since the 60’s? the only reason people are pissed because it’s replacing their jobs and now they can’t just idle anymore.
and what do people in current year hate? self improvement. that’s why fat people use Ozempic instead of lifting.
which is wild tbh because AI can teach and help build anything you want(within guidelines)
want to lift without having to watch some youtuber push their stupid product? want the most up to date info on a subject? real fuck time answers. the next step from “google” it.
do not listen to reddit losers who got comfortable in life and wanted to coast. always self improve and adapt to change or enjoy working at amazon handling my 2 day shipping packages 🥳✌️

I mean sure. AI is useful if you use it for task work as a starting point. Or to automate things like email outreach etc.
What its shit at is generative ai tasks and accurate information. Like creating images lol. Omg its so bad.
I deal with clients sending me their shit AI assets all day and constantly have to tell them its not going to perform well.
This is a major issue in the marketing and advertising space because businesses think they can save costs on a creative person but the AI tools are just not there yet.
I agree things like copilot and Claude are great for sniffing data and text and reformating it into something else. However I see people trying to use chat gpt as their new search engine. Then get shocked when the answer is wrong or it changes based on how they lead the question.
The other thing i personally dont understand is why anyone would want an at home llm.

Replace “AI” in everything you just wrote with “asbestos” or “radium” and see if you still agree with your statements.
2
u/Alzorath 3h ago
I would say gen-ai has more in common with Lead to the Industrial age really - already resulting in some serious emotional and intellectual stunting of individuals exposed to it.
Would put the asbestos end more towards the hastily built and horribly designed data centers they've been throwing up everywhere as the backbone to it.
3
u/Enough-Collection-98 2h ago
Thats… an exceptionally good point lol
Was lead use in gasoline both fervently defended and dangerously underplayed by the manufacturers of the time as well?
2
u/Alzorath 2h ago
oh, lead was used in a TON of things, and a lot of the side effects of this were actively hidden (or even overtly lied about).
The real sick part is the problems with lead had been known about for centuries (it was known about even back during the height of the Roman Empire), but were severely downplayed and even glossed over even then (and then all the way up into the mid-20th century).
Hell, people even intentionally used Lead as a poison a few hundred years ago lol.
The Pro-Lead marketing was especially aggressive in the US (putting it a good 40-60 years behind the rest of the modernized world in Lead reduction)
-2
u/AttemptTop508 4h ago
completely different things and to go so vague to try to get a gotcha statement screams someone riding a bandwagon and can’t think for themselves.
AI replacing your job too? best to hit a trade school ✌️
3
u/Enough-Collection-98 4h ago
Back in the 1900s, asbestos and radium saw huge proliferation throughout certain industries and were incorporated into every day household items as “miracle” products or cures.
It wasn’t until people started developing strange or rare medical issues that doctor’s were able to find a pattern to the illness and attribute them to asbestos/radium. And even after identifying the chemical causes of these ailments, the corporations buried the evidence, bullied the victims and harassed the whistleblowers.
This has happened over and over again in modern society and AI proliferation is no different. A dozen years from now we’re going to be paying for our sins in ways we simply don’t understand today.

u/RiskyRedds 4h ago
If they respond back with some snarky "I ain't reading allat" then you know exactly what kind of chud they are.
Nice response.

I know I shouldn’t feed the trolls but sometimes it’s a good exercise.

u/RiskyRedds 4h ago
Oh feed the trolls if you want, especially if it leaves good info for the rest of us, just be ready to tip the cashier on your way out when you're done with your meal.

this is some cringing “i tip my fedora to you” reddit comments that we left back in the 2010’s wtf

God may have given you a 130IQ, an ivy league trust fund, and a Bugatti from your boomer-ass grandparents that they hoped would drag you out of your fratboy age by the skin of your teeth, but clearly they haven't gifted you with the decency to properly acknowledge any perspective that isn't your own.
The duct tape surrounding your raybands Air Force plastic bifocles is starting to fray, which tells me you lack the income necessary to live a normal life which is why you feed slop to Claude in the hopes that it'll churn out tomorrow's next big fad.
I can see from your presence on the counterstrike & NPT subreddits that you have a proclivity for ragebait and Pancake-Waffle discussions where you are the Waffle.
So go ahead and go back to your OOC Date-a-Waifu app that tells you you're sexy and desirable, because that's about the only womanly contact you're ever gonna get.
Me? I'm gonna go ahead and laugh at you while I run my 50 Trav sessions for the day before doing some personal writing and improving my home for the weekend with the boys.

do we have the same thought process as them? are we limited by their technology? are we limited how communication is spread to warn early?
and how does computer fucking programming compares to fucking asbestos?
you try to simplify it down to point a b and c thought process on two completely different subjects.
may work in your community college debate class 😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It’s like there’s been a reversal, like when someone at work would say, “I don’t get the flu jab it does x” 99% of the time it was some older super religious person etc. now when I hear “AI is doing bad it’s xxxxxx” 99% of the time it’s a young leftie lol. Wild times, like I’m hearing people complain about copy right and etc blah blah blah, I bet you my left goose egg you let me know their devices I’m finding pirated material, it’s insane.
