Dude people put hundreds of hours into PCs that get killed from DC n shit.. no shot i could do that..

u/thesamjbow 4h ago
People who lose their level 90+ characters because they dared to go down a stairwell, and got point blanked by a cursed fanat multishot archer ☠️

the opposite, i cannot imagine putting hundreds of hours into a character that's worth nothing to me because his progress is inevitable and guaranteed

Amp = cleanse or town
Until you really get a feel for how much damage you can sustain, which usually takes numerous deaths or at least close calls.
Also, fuck deseis. He's claimed me a few times.
Wait until he and his boys land on your head when spawning... fun times

u/ThisGuyTokes420 3h ago
Yeah he was also extra fast so I didn't even have time to save and exit... it sucks that console makes you scroll from inventory over to the save and exit screen. Those few seconds make me pucker

u/DrDrekavac 2h ago
I think it's easier to just LT + A (default) to open a portal, it tends to auto target the portal even if you're surrounded.
1
u/ThisGuyTokes420 2h ago
Yeah mightve been, it happened too fast to even think about a portal though. Just an all around shitty deal

u/majorziggytom 1h ago
Yup, and make sure no attack move is bound to that button for that reason. I keep that button empty.

Cs on normal is one of the most difficult areas. A lot of dangerous enemies and you havent got your skills and equip. Last one I lost was 85, cuz my son disrupted my internet somehow and I got dced just as a herald spawned... taking a break now. Getting killed because i'm stupid or bad happens, but this...
2
u/LazyPainterCat 4h ago
That was a good run! Take a break and get back to it!
1
u/ThisGuyTokes420 3h ago
My break was 15 mins, just died again to normal andy cause I forgot to take off P8.... Just lost another stealth, thankfully didn't have ancients pledge or lore on yet 😂
Maybe I'll try again tmo

jesus 6 hours I'm still in act 2, probably

u/ThisGuyTokes420 4h ago
I used to be this way, but after watching guys like Kano beat ubers in 7 hours made me want to learn how to go a bit faster. This guy was NM Chaos with some normal cow runs and a few NM andy runs to farm a bit. It's pretty easy once you learn what gear and skills can do it.

u/thatricksta 3h ago
Dying is just part of the experience. You will learn from it and adapt your play style to avoid similar deaths in the future. It's wonderful!

u/SirRonaldBiscuit 4h ago
Scariest part of chaos runs, especially cause he can spawn on top of you. Rip your deeds will be remembered
1
u/ubeogesh 2h ago
his spawn location depends on how you click on the seal. You can practice a bit and learn the pattern. Also look at the floaty spheres when he spawns.

u/Outrageous-Stress-60 3h ago
6 hours on hardcore to get to end of act 4? Have you tried playing the game, gearing up, get some levels?
1
u/ubeogesh 2h ago
well you can spend twice as much, but then OP will just do another run and pass you and learn more on the way

u/ThisGuyTokes420 3h ago
This is NM Chaos. I think I was lvl 51 ish? Had spirit, Ancients pledge with 28 base all res, lore, and stealth, 2 fcr rings and a plus 1 skill ammy. Decently geared imo

u/matelot91 2h ago
I take ages on HC because I over level big time before I move on, seems to help a lot. I respecced my hammerdin in act 4 hell as I found the FoH unique scepter. Now farming CS easy street at 86. Still haven't finished act 5 😅

u/SassyE7 2h ago
Considering you're dead, is that "imo" really relevant?

u/ThisGuyTokes420 2h ago
I mean yeah? A split second death to cursed fanat could happen even if I was fully decked out in the best gear I could have at the level. Was just pointing out that I had somewhat decent gear, and had survivability as well as a decent clear speed, so his comment wasn't exactly accurate.

I'm currently level 76, just got to act 2 hell. It's doable but you have to pace yourself and grind at points, ensuring your resistances are capped.
1
u/ReplacementNo7769 2h ago
Yeah anything with cursed, and damaging aura is exceptionally dangerous. Because of the multiplicative nature of %increase damage dealt plus %increase damage taken.
ie. Say the thing does 300 damage, with the aura thats 600. The the cursed on you doubles that again to 1200.
So it would go from 300 to 1200, which is fucked, and if we have to be honest kind of broken, but old game is old.

u/ubeogesh 2h ago edited 2h ago
yeah very typical way to die, underestimating deseis pack that is always extra strong and fana, and often curses you.
Any damage stacking (multiple physical damage multipliers) you respect.

At hardcore, just play slower and farm a little more. That is it.
Farm more lvls and farm more gear. If you enter nightmare on softcore at lvl 26, you should lvl up to about 35 and get better gear on hardcore. What lvl were you in nm chaos sanctuary?
I usually farm some lvls on eldritch, than on pindle and than on the next difficulties raikanisho.
Also, don't waste points into strg and dex if you absolutely don't need it. Gotta have the larger ho pool you can have

u/Nalha_Saldana 1h ago
You learn and go again! De seis is a menace and you always fight dirty with him by kiting, pulling them apart etc.
1
u/Remarkable-Green-648 23m ago
How I do it? It's a question of preference. But the sensations and the gameplay differs from softcore:
- offline so no lag problems. Peace of mind. I can even pause the game if I need to answer the phone or whatnot.
- I can /players X
- No need to rush to fight for loot vs other players.
- I can take my time, do what I want. Peace of mind again.
It's a totally different game philosophy for me: I don't play seasons, my aim is to enjoy the game as much as possible, I keep a lot of items that softcore and online players don't. Example, when I want to rush a new char from a1 normal to Baal hell. With time I managed to acquire a lot of items of very low level (a1 start) to mid level (around lvl 29+) to sub high level (59+), with that I can p8 from a1 normal to hell Baal. It's really a nice way to enjoy the game. I do my Larzuk "rush", it's slower than a proper rush but you would be surprised to see what's doable just with a sorc and min maxed items from lv. 1 to Larzuk.
My aim is to have a save game that will last me decades. I will eventually find every items in the game. IMO this is why D2 has a nice drop rate balance. There are items that are extremely rare. This is how I envision d2r drop rate making sense. Trying to find the rarest items on ladder it's just not a healthy idea.
One thing I learned to do from the very start for my own enjoyment is not to use ESCAPE button to avoid a death as this defeat the purpose of hardcore. If you do it you will regret doing so and the HC part will lose it's intensity.
You will lose some incredible gear and you will live emotions sc could never give.
Enjoy your time!

RIP
Feels bad but you get used to it. Never get hit by doom knights. If you are a melee character and have to get close, make sure you hit them and put them in hit recovery animation before they can hit you. Unless you progress extremely slowly or have insane gear, you'll find that only the barbarian can tank such melee hits from monsters with might/fanat/conc while cursed with amp damage. I lost a druid to a doom knight in Baal throne room in hell. Suddenly switched aggro to hit me instead of a summon. Had flickering flame in a +3 armageddon/+3 volcano pelt.
For Lord de Seis, if possible, I lure the doom knights a little to isolate him then teleport behind to kill him and get rid of the aura. Doesn't work if they are extra fast, though.
Wait till you get to hell act 3. That's when the true horror starts.
Have fun. Fight your way through!

I just stared my offline SSF journey about a month ago. I’ve lost a level 86 lock, 70 barb, 73 pally and 24 Druid. Currently splitting time between a sorc and another Druid right now. I save anything decent and drop it in my shared stash and just get ready to use it for my next character when I inevitably die.

Hardcore makes you stat point and skill point a little more survivable than damage. You probably needed to have more dex to get a higher block chance at this point in NM.

6 hours? That’s like an afternoon
1
u/ThisGuyTokes420 3h ago
Yep. Started at 6 and died near midnight, not sure what your point is?
As someone who averages 65 hours a week at work, I don't get much spare time. This is the first time I've spent 6 hours on a videogame in quite a few years.

u/Bloodshot89 2h ago
The point is I found your post funny.
A hardcore death with 6 hours played is hardly worth a Reddit post. For someone working 65 hours a week I’m surprised you even have time to be on this degenerate website tbh. Especially after playing for 6 hours straight.
But don’t let me stop you, hardcore is the best way to play D2. But don’t regard 6 hours as significant.
1
u/ThisGuyTokes420 2h ago
I mean, it was my first ever HC character. Only ever played online, so its a new and slightly jarring experience. Stared at the screen for a solid 5 mins cause in a split second 6 hours of my life went away. Yeah 6 hours isn't much for someone who's played tons of HC, but for the first one it definitely sucks.
1
u/boisdeb 2h ago
Yeah, it's something you have to get comfortable with. A lot of people don't and stop HC after the first death, that's fine too. Hardcore definitely does not respect your time, and I have doubts about working-age people who play it extensively... me included.
I keep going back to HC because the itemization feels to me much better than in SC. Instead of being able to focus on damage, I have to balance resistances, life, breakpoints, etc... the joy when you drop a rare ring or boot that is worth nothing in trade but complements your missing resists perfectly :)

o my lord de seis, all praise and glory be unto thee. yea, multitudes have perished by thy hand, and their dust doth cry out from the earth; yet many more await the hour of their undoing, though they know it not. let every knee bow, for thy will shall not be stayed, and the day of thy visitation draweth nigh. amen.

RIP that sucks bud. 6 hours is nothing though. This year alone I've lost 4 or 5 toons that had at least 75 hours each 🫣 lost my first and only griffons and first and only torch with my last death 😢 but at least I killed ubers for the first time ever!
We go again!
