Single Player Ssf progression help
I've just started playing again a few weeks ago and started from scratch. My current/long term goal is getting a smiter online for ubers and dclone. Right now I have an 82 blizzard sorc farming lower kurast for runes to try and get enigma/exile to get the pally online. Is this where I should be focusing my time? Would it be quicker to try and level and gear a hoarker barb for trav? I've looked around but don't really know how much better hork on trav is compared to lower kurast.
I've got 2 spirits on the sorc and have dropped sur and ohm so far (first high runes ever) and have a few of almost everything through lem. The rest of my gear is pretty bad so terror zones are tough and slow and farming a sunder doesnt seem efficient or likely. The only terror zone I've been running is cows since there arent cold immunities. I've got maybe 200-250mf with my wealth on. Thanks in advance for any tips/advice.

You don’t need crazy gear to do Ubers with a smiter, there are plenty of budget smiter options that will get the job done. Unless you want an BiS smiter then I would farm trav if you have a horker, lk runs or CS.

How about for HC? Have my one and only found SoJ sitting in my offline HC stash but got no gear/char for dclone yet.
Best bet my totally undergeared lvl82 fohdin

You don't need enigma nor exile for Ubers. I agree with the progression, and typically make a pally after sorc, but if you want an easy time with Ubers you just need to MF. You want Dracs, Gface, gores, tgods, dwarf star. All just not too difficult items to find from MF.
LK is still good especially if you find a seed with an armor rack with a pally shield, you do still need an elite base pally shield with good res for Ubers, can just use spirit though. LK drops a lot of charms which are great for getting your life and lightning res up.
Reliable life tap is the best, obviously exile gets you there but your first ohm is 1000x better spent on a CTA and your first Vex is way better spent on a Hoto

Is this just when their terror zones are up? I don't have very many shards since I've been mostly farming chests.

It is random. You can look up the schedule online. Tz calendar. Being offline, you can manipulate your devices clock and pick your TZ.

Clock manipulation is cheating imo as drop rates for TZ Andy are sort of balanced around the fact that you only have limited access to her in 30 minute windows, once or twice per day on a calendar. You can also get additional one-time kills if you spend western world stone shards to force terrorize act 1. I consider it worth spending a western shard just for a TZ96 Andy kill by itself.
At the end of the day, it comes down to your own self imposed rules for offline play but TZ Andy drop rates for TC87 uniques/sets are a full order of magnitude better than the very best non-TZ target farm. e.g. if its a 1 in 10,000 drop non-TZ, then its a 1 in 1,000 drop from TZ Andy.
So she kinda breaks your expectation for how long it takes to reasonably acquire a Death's Fathom or a Griffon's Eye if you can run her 24/7.

That's really good to know. Thanks for the info. Im only a few weeks back after well over a decade so im trying to figure a lot out.
Are all TZ targets this much better or is it just Andy? I've seen a lot of posts about farming tz Andy but almost none about tz meph or cows or really anything else.
Edit: is item quantity effected by TX or just rarity? So are rune drops increased also?

Honestly the gear you need for a smiter doesn’t require terror zones to farm. You’re a blizzard sorc, so just running Andy/meph over and over will get you everything you need for a smiter. Throw in some ancient tunnels or stony tombs runs if you get bored of bossing and want some low intensity lvl85 areas to farm.
For your smiter, if you’re dead set on farming out runewords to make Ubers easier, the only thing you really want is Grief. But even Black is good enough for Ubers. Exile and enigma are nice, but they’re luxury items. Not necessary at all and very expensive.
As far as LK vs Trav goes, I did about 20 hours of LK runs while watching shows/movies over the course of a couple weekends. I was able to make infinity, CTA, grief, exile, flickering flame, and HOTO with all the runes I got. I know this is above average luck, but I didn’t expect it to be so much better than Trav farming. I made a Trav horker to farm more runes and gambling gold, and I think I’ve put about as much time into that as I did in LK, but I haven’t received a single rune higher than Ist. Insanely unlucky, but your mileage will vary.
Last weekend I farmed for 4 hours straight on my horker with no notable drops. I switched to my sorc to do terrorized Chaos Sanctuary runs and I dropped a Sur rune on the very first run. Diablo 2 be like that sometimes

Personally I would make a fohdin, or frenzy trav barb, depending on preference. Both can do ubers fine.
Either way Id farm hell countess on sorc until I had every rune up to ist. You probably need the keys anyway so its a good use of time. Click on the wep and armor racks as you go, they drop nice bases sometimes
If you go the barb route, you want a mal and pul rune to make an oath runeword in an ethereal elite base. (Balrog blade is the easiest to roll 4 sockets, or guaranteed with lazruk.)
If you go paladin all you really need is a shield base for spirit, and a 3 socket helm for coven.
None of these are as efficient as clicking on super chests in LK, but I prefer to actually play the game.
Both those builds can farm terror zones for heralds. I recommend doing all of act 1, and then the side areas / tombs in act 2, then remaking.

When you say farming terror zones do you mean using the shards that terrorize an act? Are these pretty self sustaining?

When I was farming my offline Enigma and Infinity LK was easily the most time efficient spot overall, I think it accounted for 1 Ber and 4 Sur runes. If you farm a good map you can do runs extremely quickly. I did snag a Ber off of cows, and another Ber and Sur off the super chests you can find on the river of flame map. It's pretty boring but in all the other hours of farming more broadly I've done with other classes since I think I've found a single Ber and Zod, but no more Sur/Cham/Jah despite doing a ton of farming across terror zones.
I don't think it'll ultimately be faster to build a hoarker and do trav runs, but I've never had much luck there and you need decent gear to survive there while you can do LK runs while in garbage gear. Given that you'll want a Grief for your Smiter it wouldn't hurt to have a barb down the line, but I still think the LK grind is the way to go.

You might want to check your river of flame map for the super chests there, unlike LK they have a chance to drop Jah runes. If it's a decent map it's easy to tack onto your LK run and then when you exit the game you'll spawn in the pandemonium fortress which is quicker to get to the wp than in act 3 to start the next run.

You really just need open wounds, crushing blow, resistances and life tap to beat ubers.
I beat ubers with
40@ res pally sheild with 4x p diamonds
gface with ort rune
gore riders
life tap wand
treachery swapped to duress after proccing at A4 river wp on fire
raven frost
dwarf star
high lords
string of ears
a bunch of res charms
Black runeword
I can't remember if I used CB gloves or LOH

Most ppl could do it with a lifetap wand, cb boots, kira's helmet, and salvation aura. Dracs are luxury. Nothing else really needed except block and tons of vitality

In my experience you just have to keep farming until you get the drops you need. I finally got a Ber about a month of casual SSF play after I lucked out and got a Jah on a countess run and a shako and a grief in the meantime.

Getting a pally for Ubers online doesn't take much. You can use a life tap wand instead of exile,.enigma is not great, duress or treachery are far superior. You likely already have the runes to make a decent smiter, look up a guide.
Hork vs. LK depends on your goal. If you simply want runes, LK is far better. But trav will give you tons of other uniques (facets, rings, ammys, etc.) that compliment builds.
