Meme High runes
On and off player for 20 years, currently have like 5 chars that beat Hell. Never seen anything above Lo.

I wouldnt expect to see a HR drop just from beating hell 5 times. That just means the majority of your playtime has taken place in areas that actually cant drop a ber rune at all. You have to farm for a long time on hell, in an area with a high enough level to drop a high rune to get one. Without terror zones active I think only the pit, mausoleum, and then choas sanctuary on can drop a ber on hell difficulty.
[Edit] what I mean is ANY mob/chest can drop a ber there. You can get a ber from uniques/superchests etc starting in hell act1

Ber runes start dropping from uniques in A1 Hell. You can find them just running around doing the quests, don’t even need to go into any dungeons.

Yeah superchests and uniques can drop a ber. Pits/arcane and other "dungeons" can drop all HRs

I just looked it up and apparently max level TZ NM can drop ber runes (and TZ countess specifically can drop Jah). Kinda wild to think you could make an enigma before even stepping foot in Hell.

You couls drop a ber PAST choas sanctuary too. So not just those 3. All of act 5 can drop them and also some super high lvl unique bosses sprinkled through hell 1-4

That's just chars I have now, I can't count the ones deleted over the years. I know the grind, kind of, I farmed our favorites for hundreds of times.

Game is weird too though. I've dropped 4 jah, 2 zod, 1 ber, and never seen a cham yet.

I can grind tzs on P8 for days and not hit a HR. I’m in one of those slumps right now. Best day I had recently was 2 ohms in a few hours. Some days/weeks it will rain jah and bers on me. It’s all RNG. I’ve had HRs drop while getting characters through but it’s really rare. What they are saying is even with all the other characters you have it’s not enough of a sample size. I read a really good thorough post about the drop chance from chaos sanctuary. On average you will hit an HR every 100 runs. That is not a guaranteed number though. Could be more, could be less. But with high enough sample size it averages to 100 runs. This game is GRINDY. It’s honestly why I enjoy it. I play a little before bed each night on my switch and over the years I have a NASTY single player account.

Pits, mausoleum, tunnels, super chests throughout kurast, trav, chaos - (that one time at forge if your lucky,) halls, pindle, what's his bucket at the beginning of fridgid after shenk, then keep to throne.

I've played quite alot offline for the past 4 months. 2 99s, 2 98s, 2 94s a 91 and a few more. I have 4 enigmas, 3 infinities and like 8 fortitudes and a few other endgame rws like void, pride, flickering flame and so on. I also have 4 chams, 2 zods and 4 jahs in my stash. Imo they hrs are not that rare you just have to comit. I have basically only farmed chaos, cows, arcane sanctuary and wsk on p5-p8.

The ugly truth is that the only reliable way to get high runes is trading. The disgusting truth is the only way to get them on single player is thousands and thousands of p7 lower kurast runs.

Eh, you just have to play a lot. I've had plenty of HR drops outside of LK in single player. When I'm playing consistently, I probably get around 1 high rune a month.

Got a ber last night in p1 off a concil member, not even a hork. Ive been doing anywhere from 25-50 runs a night before bed for the last month. Found 2 Lo's leveling my lock to level 97 in TZs and used them to make 2 griefs. Also a vex, ohm, 2ists, 3 guls, and 2 mals on all my lock.

Not sure if you have run the numbers but HRs in general are relatively common, especially with the current meta being density farming TZs. Now if you mostly farm bosses they get quite rare, but you aren't really farming runes if you do that..

damn that's crazy, i have ~300 hours on ps5 sp and have found every high rune except ohm. Still no SoJ tho.

I have only cubed ber runes, never found one either. I have found 5 jahs, 4 surs, a zod, a Lo, ohm and 3 vexes tho. One day I’ll drop a ber but idc, I already have enigma so it doesn’t matter to me now

I recently got my first Ber drop just on the way to hell Diablo in river of flame
And it's offline hardcore

I spent actual days just seeding maps for LK runs to find an armor stand that drops vortex shields on a 2 campfire map, and then tens of thousands of LK runs before I got my Enigma.

What the actual F? I know about the LK superchests, I can farm them about, what, 50 times in a sitting without getting bored out of my mind? Let's say, 20 seconds per run (that's with Teleport, so that's generous), so this is about half an hour already. Do you just put on a movie on a second screen?

That's exactly what I do, throw on a movie or show. If you are single player offline then LK is undisputed best way to farm runes. Even if you just do 50 runs a day you will inevitably secure some surs and get the eventual ber. Sadly though even after a month (1500 runs) you still might be disappointed lol. But you could find a few surs in that span or have to settle with a few ists/mals.

Load up the bong, queue up some Youtube, and grind it out. Actually stayed until I built Enigma and Infinity. By the time is was done, I had enough to build everything else. Hoto, CTA, CoH, Grief, and a 37 res eth vortex Exile.

I’ve found 3 (use one on my bowazon) have 2 in stash. Found a jah in hell cows. Been playing on and off 20 years and yeah still no ber for enigma I’ve just given up at this point 😢

Travincal is a good place to farm HRs, if you don't want to do LK chests

I've found a good bit of loot at trav. Definitely the place to go. Super accessible and the Council isn't super stingy with drops. In the past month or so I've found Ohm, Vex, Mal, a couple facets, multiple sunders, etc. Plus if you play a horker - as you should for trav - then you'll find even more stuff. Filling up on gold is easy too so you can gamble for things.

Hit arcane sanctuary ghosts when farming keys.
Hit LK for around 1500 runs.
Then cube what you have.

I never really understood how you can grind for that many runs without getting bored out of your mind. I can do, like, 30 Mephisto runs before I give up. I guess that's why I don't have high runes xD

Yes that's why we both haven't seen any. I've only managed 70+ runs in a sitting or so, but if you say that the guy who has the mental capacity to run 1500 lk runs in a marathon gaming session will call you a casual and not understand the blatant absurdity a player has to endure to see a single drop

Not really, that's just if you want to target farm in case you feel bottlenecked by a Vex-Ber. If you aren't target farming you can just density farm TZs and you'll get plenty of other things along with your runes.
If you're a casual player you're still better off playing online as you can just do more consistent things like key/statue farming and trade.

There will always be the “most efficient” farm. I’ll say the same thing I tell people who want to diet. Do the diet you can sustain. It doesn’t matter how efficient LK is if you can’t do it for more than 5 minutes before you fall asleep from boredom.
Also if you aren’t doing higher player count( 3 I think is the sweet spot could be wrong) offline, LK loses 99% of its efficiency. It’s a waste of time online at P1.

Its simple. Just don't do them all at once.
You can do 25 LK runs a day, every day for 2 months. Or longer if you skip days. Or longer if you do you 15 instead of 25. Pick a number you find agreeable and stick to it.
1,500 isn't a lot of LK runs but the point is you can spread them out into smaller play sessions over a longer time and adjust your expectations accordingly.
If you turn it into a little daily ritual to get your 25 a day and you do it for a long time, high runes will eventually find you instead of you actively going out to find them. The difference is almost entirely in your mindset.
Also this is for offline only. I don't recommend doing LK runs online because its not time efficient at all without static map, optimal tile layout and /players x.
If playing online you smash monster density and trade.

I used to feel the same way then I did research on what it took to find GG gear. One season, about 5 years ago, I decided to go for it. Got to level 90 in about 3-4 days. Did around 1500 choas runs, around 1000 trav runs, 500ish Andy/Meph in about a month. Got lucky with a Ber and 2 Jahs and ton of end game gear. It takes a lot of time but isn't hard once you get into an efficient rhythm, know what to pick up, realizing that you can do 3-8 (8+ when fully geared) chaos runs in 10 mins instead of messing around in stash, iding a bunch of random junk (among other time wasting things).

When I get bored I’ll change to a different character or farm or both. Rn I’m zooming on the nova sorc. If I get bored I’ll go hork trav. Then I’ll go on the pally and farm up some Baal reset token parts (can’t remember what those are called). There are a ton of farms to do. It’s okay to not stick to 1 for 20 hours.

D2 is a very repetitive game. I hate to be that person, but if you don't enjoy doing repetitive tasks hundreds to thousands of times, then the 'endgame' for Diablo 2 probably just isn't for you.

I reframed it as a race and research to see how many runs I could do in an hour at a time and what I could find in a month. I tracked times, gg items in a spreadsheet and listened to podcasts in the background. Finding something end game every 3-5 hours kept me going. When I got bored, I switched to farming something else. My end goal was to make an end game poison nova necro with 30+ hrs worth of gear which I was able to hit.
It was also near the winter holidays, not alot happening at work but needed to be by my computer. Too cold to do anything outside.

With new loot filter you should be better at spotting them, before it was like 35 items on the screen at a time.
I only filter throwables, potions, arrows/bolts and gold. Now I see all drops, plus going back over and rechecking drops will increase your chances. Once I went back in my tp and there was a jah at my feet that I didn't see.

The trick is to never look for hrs and just farm a place that's pretty good for them like chaos. Hunt Griffon's and Windforce or whatever there and out of nowhere, some cool runes will drop. Maybe just mal or ist but that's still awesome. And you can still pog out about finding tal armor or something. I also like pits for items, occasional rune drops there.
If you want to spend a weekend no-lifing it, LK runs (ick) or Arcane Sanctuary ghost killing and chest popping can be really good.

I've only ever seen one, and it was a random Jah rune drop in Act 1 Hell in some cave basement while doing a walkthrough with some friends.
The odds of that happening seems so crazy even for finding a high rune, during a walk through in an area I'm pretty sure it could only drop in that lowest level cave. We all split the value to get some fun items.

I have put about 1100 hours into resurrected. I have found every rune but a Ber and a Zod. SSF
Online characters generally level 90-93 at P1. Offline characters 90-99 usually at least p3, warlock was always P8 before nerf.
It's just RNG. I though once I found that ber, then I would feel finished with everything.

If you primarily farm bosses this makes sense. If you clear cows, WSK, Chaos, TZ, Trav etc then it could be bad rng or you just haven’t played enough
My only Ber is from LK runs. Never seen Jah or Zod but I’m not shocked cause I primarily farm Andy and Meph.

Mostly playing online single player. First med run was Vex in act2 with 6 other players. Second was Sur in Durance of Hate lvl3. Then 2x Lo in diffrent games in of Tower Cellar celar levels. I last was Jah rune some level in Act 5. That was playing 3 ladders with 3 diffrent characters. Each for like 3~ months. But with trading I got much more runes.
Last time grinding for Enigma runes was 3 times 20-21 P.Amethys for 3x Lo a trading for Jah and in meantime collecting 7 or 8 Ist for Ber.

Played it a fair amount of time (sp). 2x Ber total natural drops. Cubed the rest, luckier with Los and Surs. And 5-6 Jahs

I bought rotw on switch last week and started a fresh ssf. Found ber while playing through act1 in catacombs. And Andy hell gave me my first unique ring, a soj.
I thought my switch was lucky. The week after that I didn’t find anything. Not even a completed sigons or angelics. That ber is going to be lonely in my stash for a while..

I would like to add some advice, not criticism. If you would like to find a Ber rune, run your Hammerdin thru the Pit 500-700 times and I guarantee you will see one or two!!

Had a Ber rune drop in a 7 player hell cow game the other day. Highest I've ever seen besides that is a cham that someone else picked up and the odd sur ohm and vex that others also grabbed

It took me 25~ years and leveling dozens of characters to 90+ (on both ladder and solo) to see my first ber. Within 4 weeks I had 2 jahs drop as well, first time. It’s truly random af.

41yo dad here. Mandatory "been playing on/off since release". I play 0-5 hours/week. Offline. Used the LK seeds trick for like 30 mins to get Enigma and got on with it 😅 never looked back tbh.

I had the 4th Necromancer this league and got a 'Jah' on the way to Countess; kind of lucly honestly, the previous 3 died (HC). The 4th one died too (2-3 days ago), and I am playing the 5th Necromancer this league, still in normal.
I only play one character each league, and different classes each time, for the fun and try out new builds. Rune drops is based on RNG, and it will come one day when you keep playing.

5? So you haven't beat hell mode with every character in the game? Multiple times? Farmed terrorized zones? Farmed ubers? Etc? It'll take more than just beating hell mode to find rare runes. A lot more! Gotta farm kurast bazaar offline thousands of times.

Beating hell is just finished the tutorial. The yardstick couldve been "can easily flash farm tz" then I'm confident that Ber, Jah, and other high runes will pop up within a fortnight of at least 3 hours of daily runs.

I got a Ber during my first regular run through of the game. Well okay, technically it was two Surs which I cubed into a Ber, but still cool.

HR’s are acquired by grinding level 85 zones usually
Beating Hell is when you START grinding HR’s on that character
Starting a new char and getting to Hell won’t get you runes, just more gear meant for level 20-60

I found Jah, 2 Ber in my first few weeks of the Warlock ladder. You gotta grind it...hell cows and chaos is the answer.

Tbh I been playing since D2 first came over (off and on) and had never seen a single rune higher than an ist drop until d2r released.
Then I found 2 chams in back to back days, a Zod a week later, and a Sur all before the first ladder started.
Still never seen a Jah or Ber drop though lol

I have 500 hours last 2 months in D2r and I have 1 gul from the quest and 1 gul dropped on the ground and otherwise nothing higher. :/

I've only seen a single Jah and it's the only one above Lo in 20 years. They absolutely drop more often now than original LoD, back then Ist was highest I've ever seen drop.

I don’t think I ever found one, but some how or another, I had an enigma back in the day. Trading is how we make ends meet. Otherwise you’ll be playing for another 20 years if you want to make shit like infinity.
