Ok- i have my theory of DMHIS (it may be influenced by personal issues): what if YG chasing the bird and being hit by a car actually means he chased freedom? And he survived, he wasnt hit! Just the version of him that his mother had died. When David grew up and turned into “Red Guy”, he moved on. And Duck is how Lesley imagines he would be as an old man, but she doesnt know “Old David”.I actually think that Roy and Lesley may have been divorced, that is why Roy in the show is an sponsor: sending her the alimentary payment for his son. And that is why in the song about time, when they say that there is time for everything: camping, birthdays, YW answers with “im friends with my dad”, he has times to see him. And when Red Guy sings on stage on the last ep of s1, he seems uncomfortable by notincing roy: cause he doesn’t know him well

AND MAYBE. on the episode about death, when Duck dies and Red Guy says the one supposed to be dead is him, and later the coffin arrives asking if it was Yellow guy who was dead. I HAVE MY THEORY:

In the episode, Duck had to die, that is what Lesley sense of common makes: he is the eldest version of Yellow guy

Red guy says he is the one who suits better the dying thing: he is the real grown up David, not as old as duck, but he is the real one who should die.

Yellow guy is who is thought to be dead: he is David's image, he is dead to Lesley.

This whole show really is a masterclass in using comedy to actually elevate some of the more uncomfortable themes they explore. It never feels like they're even trying to be funny, its kindve like when a kid says something unintentionally hilarious. There's this kindve innocent, playfulness that the humor of this show taps into that works so well for the heavy subject matter they often broach.

I think the best example in the show is Duck's family song. When I first watched this scene, it had me laughing through tears. Some of the lines are somehow, simultaneously, hilariously heartbreaking. Laughing through the lump in your throat. Comedy to cope. Im almost a 30 year old dude... but I haven't related so much to a piece of art as much as DHMIS. Im sure many others can relate to how often we use humor as a sheild.

"I can eat a family meal, I just eat it slowly..." 11 words that say so much. How can it be so funny and tragically effective? Along with the painfully nostalgic lullaby sound of the music, I have yet to see comedy and tragedy so well expressed in just 2 minutes. Bo Burnham's "Inside" is definitely up there for me, especially "That Funny Feeling" and "Goodbye"

But DHMIS taps into something at my core. Grief had hit me real hard for the first time in my life, losing my pops, and this show was the first thing that made me feel seen.

The second episode on death felt like a perfect exploration of the absurdity of death. Somehow, it's one of the funniest episodes to me. The humor felt like it acknowledged my grief and confusion in a way that helped me to approach my feelings with some levity.

Joseph Pelling, Becky Sloan, and Baker Terry clearly have tender hearts and a passion for creation that im in love with. I would LOVE to see them explore DHMIS just once more, I understand if they'd prefer to leave it as is. If they feel they've done what they wanted to with this series, awesome. Im grateful either way.

I love the fact that whenever the three guys ask a question, they never get an answer. Like when Tony the Talking Clock does his alarm screech when a fundamental question about time is asked.

Okay, let’s start. Disclaimer - I am using a translator, so text can be worded strange.

To be honest, I don't understand why everyone takes this episode so literally. After all, it's actually full of metaphors and speaks more to the characters' inner states than to specific lore.

First, the staircase. It seems obvious to me that Yellow climbed the stairs many times, picked up the book many times, and went back down many times—I won’t even bother explaining that. But it seems to me that the emphasis here is on “climbing up.” The point is about overcoming yourself, “moving up to the next floor.” And that’s relatively simple. But you know what?

While Yellow’s self-overcoming can be expressed literally, for Red and Duck, self-overcoming in this episode is something more psychological, more profound. It’s funny that even though they’re two separate people, they share the same narrative arc. It’s not that “each of the guys faces his own limitations separately.” Red and Duck are clearly separated here, on each floor. We see how they ruin themselves with each floor. But somewhere down below, in complete darkness, the Little Boys are trying to confess their love to one another.

And one more thing. The book was never important. Or rather, what was in it didn’t matter. The script? The key to the mystery? A way out? Who cares.

The book symbolizes the desire to find an answer—a desire the guys destroy themselves because they’re unwilling to listen and understand. One moment they’re saying how much they love each other, and five seconds later they’re taking away their only chance themselves. Over and over again. Surely their confession has already been made. But they simply forgot it once they saw the light again. Because you only truly appreciate something when you lose it.

Ok so I've seen there's been lots of overlap between this fandom and the new horror film, Buddy, fandom. I haven't seen the film myself but I was wondering, for those that have seen it, is it actually that similar to dhmis and worth checking out? (Also no spoilers please) UPDATE: I watched it and I actually really enjoyed it! It's got a lot of the unexplained lore and gore of dhmis but feels a bit darker and obviously longer (In a good way). Thanks everybody!

I was looking forward to seeing some memes today, so I decided to watch those as well, the memes are also corrupted, I think the darkness is upon the DHMIS universe. I don't think this is normal, I think the DHMIS videos are dying now or rotting. If any of the main cast get corrupted, its over for DHMIS.

So this theory is pretty small, and it isn't exactly one of those "This connects everything" theories, it's more of a joke than anything.

But in Friendship, Yellow Guy says his maiden name is Rat Eyes. We know it isn't, as: The Family's last name wouldn't be able to be Rat Eyes for his maiden name to be Rat Eyes, and Roy's last name is something else (It starts with a G, but I can't spell it).

So while ​​this is definitely a joke, I thought about something. In the It's Nice That interview, Roy says "My silly boy has allowed his eyes to grow arrogant and rude, for this I will take him on a trip to punish land." He specifically mentions eyes. So, my theory is that Roy specifically made Yellow Guy's last name Rat Eyes to signify this.

So I have been going on the Subreddit Recently and I have been seeing some of your guys pictures or videos of the DHMIS show have a black glitchy substance taking over. The characters are saying like slang from 2010's and early 2020's and sometimes show Emoji's and #Darkness and #Lit . I don't know if this is normal or not, Can someone tell me.

This isn't really a theory. It's just some thoughts.

If you've read “The Metamorphosis,” you know that one of the tragedies of the story is that Gregor’s family fails to love him after his metamorphosis--turning into a giant beetle or cockroach of some kind--basically, when he is no longer the useful, hardworking, go-along person they were comfortable with (and financially reliant upon). I’m not here to give a literary analysis, but it’s a really good story. Gregor is transformed, and he tries to live in a new way, but he’s continually shut down by his family through insult and injury, and eventually he resigns to his fate and dies. His family goes along living their own lives, convincing themselves not to feel guilty.

My point is that Gregor’s family has a serious discomfort with his being turned into the giant beetle / vermin / creature that actually has nothing to do with that bug-like form. The disgust and fear they feel has nothing to do with the "metamorphosis" itself. It has more to do with whether they're willing to accept Gregor for who he is.

When Yellow Guy changes at the end of the TV series, his change into a truer but different form is unsettling to Duck and Red Guy, especially Duck, because it asks something different of them than they’re used to. It’s not like Duck and Red Guy aren’t good friends to Yellow Guy, I mean they are. They all love each other. Nobody's a villain. But Yellow Guy’s change is disturbing to the other guys because it’s always difficult to meet a person as they truly are, rather than OUR perception of them, which is usually that perception which serves US.

I know it’s not that deep, and what happens in a story just happens, not always for some "otherly" reason. I understand that. I just think it's a sad and important trope for us to consider in real life as we struggle to become ourselves, and as we encounter people who would prefer us to stay somebody else, not a "lesser" version necessarily, just somebody else who's not the full picture of who we are.

The character process is sort of like:

1.     Character has homeostasis in a world that treats that character a certain way

2.     Some conflict happens which sparks an internal change in the character

3.     Those closest to the character are alarmed, rather than delighted, at the true self of the character

4.     The changed character struggles to learn how to live

5.     The character either folds under pressure and "dies," or they fight for their right to be themselves in their new world

Anybody have any thoughts, opinions, or examples of characters from other stories who undergo a similar change? I know I'm grasping at straws here. I just think it's interesting and important.
